Ronnie or a German with a size 4 Krank. Been working well for me recently.

In reply to Post #13 Switched from the D to the German as I liked the simplicity & less ‘gubbins’ around the hook. Cynical at first but I think the shot ‘drops’ the hook on the way out. Gives me confidence when stopping & turning fish. Different venues can respond to different rigs, horses for courses.

Wafter can give iffy hookholds. Try cork stick but make it less than a normal wafter,
My "wafter" rig is slip D, big hook, tungsten kicker, 4" uncoated or 7" soft coated braid. The stiffer the material with a wafter, I find you tend to get some hookholds in the scissors

In reply to Post #1 A year late but maybe this helps. I’ve switched to helis on leadcore & 6 Muggas, German rig bead on bend with a decent length of floss for wafters, sometimes cut down & 24mm’s cut with a cut pop-up. 8” Jellywire hooklengths & a swan shot about 2-3” above hook. Superb hookholds for stopping fish heading for snags & lillies. Depends on your water, pressure, going baits etc. I’m on silty river fed lakes & clay pits.

In reply to Post #8 +1 for this
for a 20mm bait & bream use a slightly longer hair tied up as described below. have used this for couple of years & hardly lose any fish.
good luck

i'd be giving the noodle rig a go. the OMC Noodle Kickers work really well and would comfortably take the eye of probably any size 2 hook.
Or a long shank hook (korda beaked point or Nash Longshank Twister) with a small but aggressively angled kicker. Micro swivel and hook bead to attach the bait.
Those would be my go to's....

In reply to Post #1 After switching to wafters as my main tactic I've settled on a simple blowback rig with a short hair. I had been using German rigs but suffered a couple of hook pulls and not the best hookholds on the fish landed. Since I reverted to the blowback I've not suffered a hook pull and have been getting far better hookholds (using the same bait) so my confidence is sky-high with it

In reply to Post #1 Give Darrell Peck's rig a try, but instead of positioning the bait tight against the hook ring swivel (or a rig ring if you have any), tie a longer hair to the hook ring swivel. Then, add a shot to the bottom of the wafter to make sure it lays flat on the deck if it doesn’t already.

I use a combi, multi slip D. snowman as my pop up rig, wafters and bottom baits - hook holds are immense. I use 20lb X-Line as a boom around 9 inches to combi tied doubled up supernatural in 25lb with a TA grub aligner to a size 4 wide gape. Personally i think that little bit more flexibility in the xline over boom helps with the holds.

In reply to Post #1 Personally I would use a longer traditional hair to give greater separation from the hook. I would also use a longer shanked straight point hook with a kicker. But I'm also aware that a rig like this needs pva stick or stringer to avoid tangles and that affects distance.

In reply to Post #1 I've had good success on a flouro d rig with 22mm baits corked in to wafters, and 22mm baits snowman style. worked really well and I didn't drop a fish ona cheshire mere last year landing 26 fish out of 26 runs, seaguar ace hard flouro with a size 4 mugga.

In reply to Post #1 I came to the conclusion that the German rig is not the one for big Hookbaits . I’m also using a multi combi , size 2 hook with quite a large kicker . So far so good . I should add , I’m using 2 x18mm baits as a snowman / wafter type bait .
If I feel it’s still not working how a want it I will go for a blow back to get more separation between hookbait and hook .
I did toy with a d rig on flouro which also has good potential

In reply to Post #1 I'd be happy landing 5 out of 6 - stick with the combi multi rig!
I use the turbo german rig and I'm happy with it

In reply to Post #1 If you've got to use 20mm baits why not try a bottom bait rig with a long hair. Mr hearns parrot rig might be worth a try. Or a KD rig with a long hair. Just put foam on the hair so it doesn't tangle. If you're worried about the hook point a small mesh bag with groundbait soaked in bait flavour or an amino type food liquid will protect and attract.

After a bit of advice on an efficient hooking rig for 20mm wafter hookbaits. Can’t get away with smaller baits as the bream are a menace. I’ve tried using the Gemini turbo German booms with size 4 curve shanks and the second fish I hooked on them in a water where carp are hard earned, decided to fall off about 10 yds out after being hooked about 100yds out. Lost confidence with that rig straight away and been playing around with multi combi rigs, Darrel Peck style and since landed 5 out of 6 bites, but some of the hook holds have been iffy to say the least. I’m using 25lb Korda Boom, with 25lb slip D braid and size 4 wide gapes.
Any advice on rigs and/or hook patterns/sizes for 20mm wafters much appreciated.
