In reply to Post #10 Your spot on with your thinking

Without starting a new thread….
With bottom baits/ wafters I tend to fish this setup as a ‘turbo German’ with no ring and the boom crimped tight to the swivel as if it was tied. The thinking being I don’t want the hook and bait folding back over the hook link, am I right in this thinking or is it better to fish it as a normal ronnie i.e ring swivel or at least a loop on the end of the boom?

In reply to Post #8 I feel that could be more beneficial, especially if using a stiff boom section?

In reply to Post #7 Wouldn’t keeping the ring give more movement and be more beneficial ?

Thanks for all replies, I've had my first fish, used a wafter, also used a Ronnie swivel without the ring, great hookhold.

In reply to Post #1 It works
Although a balanced / wafter is a better option

as others have mentioned, its a turbo german rig.
The only difference that i have seen between the 2 is that on a ronnie, you will normally find a ring on the end of the swivel that you tie your hook link to. On the turbo german, they dont tend to have that additional ring and you are tying straight to the swivel.

16mm Wafters on a size 4 Mugga work very well.

In reply to Post #1 Spinner rig with bottom baits and wafters works well. Basically a turbo german rig.

Isn't this what's referred to as a 'turbo german'? I always understood them to be essentially the same thing anyway. I wouldn't see why it couldn't be used for bottom baits myself.
Personally I wouldn't use this, but then I don't use it for anything. Personal preference I guess.

Anybody successfully use bottom baits on a Ronnie rig? Maybe with a few modifications, but essentially with a stiffish boom. Tia
