Thank you for bringing The Detectorists to my attention.
Loved Seasons 1+2 and currently enjoying Season 3
Just hearing the theme tune makes me a bit emotional!

If you want to walk amongst the oak trees from series 3 which I plan to do this summer, heres the location.
Detectorists Walk
Cheers
Neil.

The only 2 decent things on TV over xmas was the Detctorists and Mortimer and Whitehouse
Dirt fishing was my 2nd hobby behind fishing but i did like to combine both
i used to fish a lake that had alot of history in the area so used to take my E trac with me in the winter and my mate would turn up with a takeaway just after dark and after eating it would be reel in and over the fence for abit of Night Hawking for a few hrs then back to the lake do a Pub chuck in the dark and in the bag to warm up ...life was soo simple then

In reply to Post #11 A bit like us, strange ones

In reply to Post #8 Around our syndicate there actually used to be a chap going round the fields with a metal detector. He used to pick up a fair few old brass shell cases, belt buckles and bits from the old POW hospital camp that was in the grounds of the park estate.

In reply to Post #9 Greg Ellis and Neil Spooner.

In reply to Post #8 Nooo - you need a character to ridicule - and that's def a Hamidi type persona - think the Simon & Garfunkel characters (Simon Farnaby is my fav character in the whole series)
Needs the whole gamut of oldskool to newskool - the real legends need to be cameos
Lewis Read def good call in terms of a leading role - the right level of carp nerd (we are all carp nerds to be fair) I also see Greg Ellis as a typical protagonist - he would be awesome!

The humour is too low key and nuanced for Hamidi, keep him well away!
Someone oddball like Lewis Read would be my choice, I bet he even has a metal detector! Lewis and Tel characters as the two protagonists. Set in Yateley with cameos from Micky Gray, Rob Maylin, Ritchie Mac etc

In reply to Post #5 Now you're talking . There's got to be mileage in this! In case anyone asks I thought of it first. Want those royalties or a korda sponsorship 😆

The best TV this century, and possibly the last century too.

In reply to Post #1 Ali Hamidi type character in a starring role? You could do a pastiche on all the past and current carp nobs on the circuit . . .with Terry Hearn and Chris Yates appearing sporadically as poachers
Love Detectorists - the most relaxing series on TV - calms the soul!

In reply to Post #1 Part of me wants to shout "Oh God please NOOO"! But another part of me would be grateful for all the cheap 2nd hand tackle that would suddenly be available.

In reply to Post #1 Totally agree, one of the best things ever produced for TV
A carp version, I could imagine along the same lines would be great or a TV version of the syndicate series of books

In reply to Post #1 Yes I’ve always thought that when I’ve watched it, often wonder if Mark Cunnington’s series ‘The Syndicate’ would work on TV

Late to the party on this. But just started watching the detectorists on iplayer. Not for everyone but I love it. With our weird sub culture, lingo and characters I was thinking there's got to be mileage in a something similar based around carp fishing 🙂.
