Fished it two weekends ago, days only, virtually nobody about other than the weir pool, 4 Barbel to 9lb 11oz, perfect for me, was bliss

Depends where you fish though. Opening day of the season there were 10 anglers on 1.5 miles of Sutton and that was far busier than normal. Midweek I’ll often have the entire stretch to myself.

Barbel fishing in the trent is worse than the carp fishing circus. One of the reasons i just sold my barbel gear and started carping again.

I have noticed this, 80s there were lots of day ticket stretches, seem more little syndicate type stretches now like you say. Not sure where I would want to fish tbh, I liked to fish all over the place, that’s the problem. I was recently looking at Thrumpton, that’s on a book, but other than midweek I guess I would struggle for a peg. Not even considered Collingham mate, that’s interesting about it been quite, I expected it been packed out! I used to like Fiskerton, Hoveringham and East Bridgeford etc. fished Sutton a bit, mates used to go piking I used to go course, Fardon, went all over really. I like the roving approach too, was thinking two rods and moving about a bit
I was also looking at a 13 foot float rod yesterday, I have been thinking about a bit of stick float fishing too, rod out for barbel or owt that swims and try for a few roach and chub etc
More expense, buying it all again, specimen style though this time

Trouble is, there are less and less day ticket stretches of the Trent now, and Barbel fishing has attracted quite a few ‘carp mongs’ too! Well worth sticking your name down to join a club or syndicate though, I often have a mile of Trent to myself and I consider it busy if there are more than 6-7 people on the 1.5 mile stretch.
Places like Bobs Island get packed in summer, but go at quieter times and there’s some great sport to be had. I went with 2 mates in November, we turned up at 7am on Friday morning and got 3 swims together no bother and had 7 different species between us including double figure Barbel and Pike.
Collingham below the weir is now quiet because of the no night fishing rule, I know a couple of lads who had some great sport on there last season fishing days only.

Last year I picked up some Barbel gear, thought about fishing some old places on the Trent as I did in my youth, somewhere quite an peaceful away from the carp mongs, bit of tranquillity, 3 mile stretch of the Trent virtually packed out lol  
Think I will stick to carp

I have been hearing this more and more lately. Unfortunately it’s not just the carp fishing that seems to have gone downhill.
To be fair, I wouldn’t night fish for the barbel anyway. Thanks for the info 👍

Looking for different places to fish for barbel that sell day tickets.
