I've had nearly every top alarm and imo opinion the Wolf tops the lot. Best of the roller and vibration sensing worlds having both, fantastic build quality, features and battery life. So solid compared to some of the flimsy looking and feeling top alarms. Great warranty too although I have never had to use it(I've had them since they first came out and used them in all weathers home and abroad) Not too bothered about the looks as I prefer function in a bite alarm over looks.

Bite his hand off - as previously mentioned £300 for 3x is the going rate

NGT Ken? I might write to Fox on your behalf - surely they owe you a gratis set for services rendered!
PS - NEVER use Hermes - the end

thought you'd only just sourced those Ken? .

It's a long story, one that started when Hermes lost a parcel of Fox alarms and receivers I had sent off to Dalectronics, and when it looked as if I was never going to see them again I started looking to replace them. Then blow me down if my “lost” parcel wasn't returned to me ten weeks later!

Are you joining me on the darkside (Delks) . . .

No siree! Hate Delks with a passion! Now using a set of cheap and cheerful NGT alarms. I got four for less than the 2nd hand price of a used RX or LXR...Plus: We need to sell to meet household bills.

I will have a 4+1 RX Digitals for same soon, but hey'll go on the Bay first to judge response. The set has a new dumpy aerial and a couple have been serviced by Dalectronics.

I'll be posting a 4+1 set of LXRs soon too, also with the new dumpy aerial.

Ive got a set of rx+'s and a set of rx digitals and i always use the digitals. The noise that they make takes me back. They never miss a beat and i dont think that I'll use anything else, to the extent that i am going to sell the rx+'s to my dad

I would go with the latest tech. Out of interest, do the wires still connect to the battery or do they fit into contactors?

My tonka wolfs live on my jag 316 pod, big and heavy the way I like it with 13ft rods sitting securely in the wind without the need to peg it down. My nev's on the other hand live on my jag black sticks and 2 rod bars.

Yeah they could have gone push button instead of the four dial that show the settings at a glance, fitted a smaller speaker, made the ears smaller to flog snag ears at extra cost. Flattened and squared off the case but who wants another black brick especially when delkim reinvented the black brick and made it smaller. Seen loads of adds from people with black bricks wanting to swap for rx+ .

I'm liking the wolf tech and was considering becoming an early adopter however I just don't like the look of the things (they look like the ugly love child of a daiwa sensitron and a bitech viper) - no need for such a bulky butt ugly alarm head - esp with todays micro technology

Wolf are only fraction bigger than rx digitals, similar size to rx+, I've had them all and still have wolf and nev's. Early days with wolf but when you consider they were designed and financed by the same people as the rx digitals and offer the longest warranty of the lot.

Now making me feel the £380 I sold my 4x minters for went cheap! In my defence I had a Toslon 740 to fund and not many UK anglers actually use/want 4x alarms so thought it was fair in the event.

Will only take someone with a brain (perhaps Fox) to bring out a sexier / roller & vibro alarm to drop the prices again (this does not include wolf as its mahoosive and butt ugly)

When I flogged mine about 10 years ago they were about £75 per unit, £60 to mates.

Prices now seem to be £300 = reasonable, £350 plus for mint.

It would therefore seem that they have held their prices well in a saturated marketplace.

Must be a reason for that

I paid £350 for an immaculate boxed set a couple of years ago.

The ones in Belch's link are £320, they look in excellent condition and worth that.

Had RX Digi’s for many years and had no problems whatsoever - brilliant alarms. Had a 4 head blue set with the 4th head correctly set up for the 4th rod 👍

I used to fish two venues of which one had platforms so used the roller setting on there and vibro on the other venue. I loved the shape and style of the micron case, in my mind a design classic. I initially coupled them with the Fox illuminated swingers then made myself a custom illuminated set with mostly Matrix parts and hollow stainless arms to take the wires.

For some unexplained reason I listened to the voices in my head telling me that TXI+‘s we’re the future so sold the RX’s to fund a set. From the off I switched off the anti- theft- pain in the arse, decided I didn’t like the night light mode and kept getting bleeps every time I farted in bed on the platforms so had to de-sensitise them to such an extent that the whole point of having them was starting to get lost. Always regret selling the RX’s, never regret selling the TXI’s though.

Edit: just had a flashback - Chris was that my 4th blue alarm on your set you sold the one I sold you ?😊

A few of the first one the low battery warning came on very early but they were not draining the battery quickly and the battery still had loads of life in it. Mine had this issue but it was sorted out my fox in no time.

Agree with this - some of the Dalectronics stumpy versions are actually more sensible - just my view on snapping stuff - sh*t can happen appreciated however for me its about TLC and making an assumption on someone (usually correct) - Either way the best way is to view and test the alarms in person then make your decision . . .same as any high price point item

Some but not all of the originals had receiver batteries that wouldn't last long.
The mark two's don't so could be the better bet.

As for broken aerials my mates broke and he looks after them, he hardly uses them, could've gone brittle due to lack of use.
When they break it's only the plastic covering the actual aerial, they still work ok.

If the battery life on the mk1 receiver bugs you Dalectronics can do the modification. £30ish If I remember

. . .they look as good as any (no scratches / dings etc) to me - like I say get some vids emailed or better still meet in the middle and view before parting with £ - the old ways are the best!

Would not go for a set with a broken aerial - they're prob fine functionality wise but to me it means the seller doesn't look after their kit so this could potentially infer more issues (dropping heads / not protecting them etc)

As someone has mentioned the 'DIGITAL' bit of the logo did change on later facelift releases however the functionality did not change - ALL RX's have ***** wiring and battery caps that are easy to damage when swopping out batteries (the compartment is tight) so whatever you do would send them to Del at Dalectronics and get the caps switched out to more modern ones - whilst your at it get him to check the nobs as they can sometimes become very loose and therefore dysfunctional (they should be stiffish to rotate)

Good luck

I just used to turn the volume off when switching on / fiddling with bobbins etc - most of the time I left the volume fully off at the alarm head and used the receiver all the time (switching it on once rods were settled etc)

TXI-ds have an excellent mute button for this very reason - however its **** when the receiver is left on as it doesn't auto mute on the receiver so you basically have to use it in the same way as RX's (unless I've set them up wrong - don't know the button press for this function)

as Belch has said.
The other thing I like is the use of proper knobs rather than pressing buttons to access menus.
No pairing with the receiver necessary or to go wrong, I know this can be a problem if you want to add an alarm of a certain colour but I've never had to do that.
Only annoying thing is having to cover the sound hole when turning them on because of the bleeps.

. . .on RX Digitals sensing is on a single nob - turn left for vibration / turn right for roller wheel - most of the time I left mine in between the two (12 o clock) for both roller and vibration at the same time; unless it was pissing with rain / blowing a hooligan wind

All this RX talk is making me emotional - knew I shouldn't have shifted them . . .

I had the analogues then the blue digitals, I agree, best alarms ever made for me other than the battery connection wires which harden and break. Wonder if the new fox alarms use connection plates instead of a clip on connector? If they do I would say virtually bullet proof and ultra reliable

Stick with my STR digitals while they are still working, very similar to the RX and been reliable for me. Said it now

If I was to upgrade it would be some new ones

I think some of the mark one versions had receiver problems.
It was resolved in the later mark ones and all of the mark two's.
I have early mark ones that Dalectronics modified.

I’ve had my set since 2009/10 and it’s the only thing I’ve never considered changing, I paid £275 brand new presentation set
It was when the newer ntxr’s came out

If it helps I just sold 4x all blue minters with receiver (with intact aerial) hardcases and dalectronics battery cap replacements for £380 - thought that was a fair price - just hoping I dont regret my decision however after nearly 20yrs of faultless service it was time for a change - return on investment was pretty good IMO!

Just need to get 20yrs out of my TXI-ds now . . . . . place your bets lol

I think Goose has it. The RX Digitals are old now and a set of RX+ alarms won't be a lot more.

Don't think that NTXR's are going to be a better bet as these are also getting on and have switch failures.

£300 should get a v good nick set of three possibly a little more if mint all blue presentation set. Personally I wouldn't pay much more as they are old now and there are plenty of the newer rx+ on the second hand market.
