In reply to Post #4 My dad, made me a deck from plywood, and hammered, blakey, heel protectors in the kick tail,awesome..
I used to come up to London from Cornwall to stay with grandparents in Sw18,and also skated at southbank, was the place to swap your wheels,SKf bearings ,decks anything, including getting mugged for your board ...
Got up to all sort of mischief whilst up there, edited, what i wrote as I was a little toerag whilst visiting,..probs left in the memory bank..

In reply to Post #3 First skateboard was a piece of floorboard with a roller-skate split in 2 with the angled bits which held the leather strap flattened with a hammer and then these used to screw to the floorboard.
2nd was a ready made board with wide trucks and wheels but with open ball bearings not sealed bearings remember getting on the 77 bus to the southbank in london with board and sitting upstairs on the bus and got up to get off started down the stairs when all the ball bearings fell out of 1 wheel clattering down the stairs. Got off the bus totally dejected and got on a bus home straight away was around 12/13 in 75/76
Finally managed to get a proper board with what i think was a fibreflex board wide trucks and sealed red and yellow wheels eventually with my first wage packet as an apprentice and used it to travel to work for a couple of years until i could afford a Mk 1 Escort 1100L (GBH 905G) in 79 for £350.

Respect to that 67 year old though, think he's gone past the midlife crisis part..lol..
My workmate bought a wicked Porsche 911,and a complex of properties in Egypt, that's what he said mid crises are for ,911 sc,.. I got a bike...puts things in perspective I bet..
I'd love to have a go on a decent board again,..err deck I mean..
But with no one watching!

Why I have I written this?
Well today I spoke to two dudes older than me ,man, and they was skateboarding, and doing it well, too..
As I went past,I shouted out..65mm Red kryps,...
Now ,we are brothers..
Mine was..
65mm Red Kryptonics
Skuda L A deck
Lazer Slalom trucks....
Back up was a Benjy board, which was thrashed, man..Good Times,no skin on me knees, elbows but I got made to wear an ice hockey helmet..
One of the skaters was 67,beat that...!
