Thanks for the detailed reply.

The bait screws attract me to an RT4 as much as anything but I'm sure I can do without one.

I was thinkging the TF740 was yesterdays technology so may get raymarine pro5 and x pilot fitted (obviously not via TFT). But sometimes keeping it simple isn't a bad thing so nice to hear you like the TF740 unit.

Not going to order until early next year in readiness for the next season. Too easy to get carried away getting a high spec that is too high for my needs.

Hang on a minute…that appeared to be a balanced, non biased review of two products based on actual user experience.

I doubt you will go far wrong with either boat if I am honest, I have had both an RT4 and an Xboat, sold the RT last year when I was briefly out of work. Things changed work wise so I took a punt on an Xboat which I am more than happy with, in fact if I am honest I prefer it to the RT as that had a niggly fault in the two years I had it where it would lose signal intermittently, CL never could get to the bottom of it. Had the Wifish that was really good, cant comment on the newer element. The Xboat however has the Toslon 740, which I absolutely love, I did consider swapping it out for a Raymarine set up but It does all I want it to do, very accurate gps and the autopilot works a treat. Pros for thr RT slightly smaller boat, possibly a tad quicker but a great looking boat, cons were the fault I described and also a pain to control at slower speeds, and noisy (Had the top end motors)
Xboat pros, it just works great. well put together. Cons? It is a bigger boat and not too keen on battery covers.

Sent my rt4 back twice for upgrades both times took around 3 weeks .Had rt4s for years prob about 6 never had anything go wrong apart from my first set up where I had 3 tolson 640s due to faults .Was never that happy with it especially the navigation side of it as it was **** .Mate has a top of range tolson set up and it's **** compared to the rt4 it really is .Only had my v4 a couple of weeks and as expected spot on especially the brilliant autopilot

With the UK shop now open, can they repair and upgrade them or is it just for sales?

I'm wanting an RT4 but now leaning to an X boat because of the better reliability and after-sales support.

I was speaking with a guy on my syndicate at the weekend, when his RT4 had issues, it had to go back to germany and took 4 months to sort out, incredible.

The north West rt4 forum also has had people from carploumge demanding posts be removed some of which were true but it's nowhere near as bad as the other one .But apart from that it's streets ahead of any other boat and personally had over 5 years use trouble free .Baitboat forums are awash with liars making things up about the rt4 these range from jealous people to people associated with or friends of other company's .Every week there is somebody claiming to have sent 1 back and they usually name a decrepid piece of chite they now own being a much better boat ,they are so easy to see through .

Doesn’t matter where I’ve got my facts from Rowan. All that matters is you’ve confirmed my facts albeit saying only 1 boat has been sent back. The rest is my opinion and thankfully on here you don’t get banned for having an opinion like your Facebook group. Hence why another Fb group has been set up.

I’ve not had any issues with mine apart from user error. Now I’m getting to grips with it all it’s dead easy to use.

Yes, that’s exactly what you’ve done buddy, but you didn’t actually answer my question??? Where exactly are you getting your “facts”???

…..Oh me, I’m just the manager of Carplounge UK. So I can tell you first hand exactly how many V4’s we’ve sent back to Germany…..1 yes 1. We have over 250 V4’s in the U.K. and we’ve had 1 boat go back.
Sorry to burst your little bubble

Mine was delivered in July. I have had no physical problems. A couple of settings on the tablet needing changing, and I have had to learn to navigate the app.

I don't know where you've heard about these faults. I've read one about the battery meter where water has got in or condensation. They can't build enough quick enough, and like everything else, people will see reason to post any problems, whilst you won't hear much from those that are not having problems.

The majority of problems I hear is user error, impatience when trying to connect, or a setting needs changing. I imagine software and manuals are down to Raymarine, not Carplounge. The manual thus far tells me all I need to know, and if I've had an issue they've responded to me quickly, even at weekends.

Of the 3 boats I've had in the, this one isn't giving me a heart attack every time I send it out, yet cost a damn sight more.

Don't bother with the 640 as it's pathetic compared to the autopilot with raymarine .Not one of the many people judging boats having never owned one either as I had a 640 with my rt4 for 2 years .Got the V3 with dragonfly and it's the ******** just hope the v4 due to arrive any day is worth yet another upgrade

Do you know if the RVX1000 that their putting in their boats is actually working now? As I understand it, Carplounge were waiting on Raymarine to release an updated version of WiFish exclusively to Carplounge on a six month license.

You must only be hearing of the bad ones. Mine's fine, it was just getting to learn how to use it.

I'm a lot more confident in it than any other boat I've had. I select points on the tablet of the extremities of my peg, and it'll go off and map the peg on it's own. Battery life is surprisingly good, and I'm not messsing with wires to connect batteries up.

The software may not be working to it's full potential, but it's doing all I need it to do for the time being. And the support is excellent

What are you talking about, what utter rubbish.
Where exactly are you getting your information from? Don’t tell me, a mate of a mates cat told you. Or do you just have connections to another bait boat company because you’re talking out of the back of head.

The V4 has less soldered components and uses plug and play connections. Although, the build quality on some of them are shockingly poor. Numerous brand new V4 boats have been sent back to Carplounge due to faults with the autopilot to the point that the boat will completely shut down and unable to turn back on. This is caused by a software “safety” developer mode. Some of the electronics such as the voltage indicator at the back of the boats fails. All these types of faults are on the V4. The software they have released is a beta version and not the full version of the app. Release early and develop later. There’s no real in-depth tutorials on how to use the V4 other than 4 basic videos that the app tells you.

I wouldn’t waste your money on one imo. The build quality clearly isn’t what it once was. But you won’t hear that from the mags and press because they get free boats to sell how good they are.

As boat manufacturers they are good. As software developers they are horrendous. Likening to BMW vs Tesla.

The new boats are different internally I believe. They have the smart charging and the other add ons are plug and play rather than upgrades.
If you want to add spirals you just plug them in and update the app. With the older boats they have to go to Germany or maybe the Uk branch now to have them installed

Is there anything different in the RT4 v4 base boat compared to the one which was sold previously without mention of v4? I couldn’t see anything on the CL website

I’ve got the option of buying a 2nd hand RT4 which is about 3 years old with a TF640 or a brand new basic v4 boat with no extras - roughly the same price

The latest version of the app is 1.6. What version are you running? It’s in the settings tab.

If you are on Facebook you will probably do better asking in the Carplounge group or failing that email the UK office

After months of waiting for the bait spirals to arrive for my boat I’m now stuck with getting them to work.
On the tablet it says coming soon, I guess I need to update the app or something but I’ve no idea how.

Anyone done this on the v4 model yet?

Thanks
