Just watching the Christmas one now
Ultimately, for me, it’s about one mans passion and nobody else’s. No williy waving or being a knob head, it’s fishing ffs, it’s man at one with nature and a few specimen sized carp along the way and that’s what makes it so special for me. Something for everybody whether that be roach, bream, bleak or tench with crap or expensive tackle, it does not matter, it’s about been there enjoying it, nothing else, it’s a passion, what you get from it and what you take away !
Happy new year all and i hope 2022 brings you the fish of your dreams

In reply to Post #91 Agreed, love the way casts.
In reply to Post #90 Its the contrast between them that makes it special...novice and experianced....serious and not so serious....their deep love of each others differences just makes the whole series magical for me mate.

In reply to Post #89 Paul seems to take the fishing more seriously while Bob seems happy to be out enjoying the surroundings and his food and drink. Doubt they would have been mates for so long if both were competitive anglers.

In reply to Post #88 Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse have been close friends for 30 years, mate

While the nation can agree that Bob Mortimer is the nicest bloke ever, apart from the bits when he was fishing, Paul Whitehouse looked like he was being forced at gunpoint to take part in the programme. He didn't even get Bob a present. I bet he doesn't even offer him petrol money, and that Audi's bound to be quite thirsty.

In reply to Post #83 Oi oi tad...i agree... merry christmas bud.

In reply to Post #83 Spot on, was bloody brilliant bit of watching 👌🏻

In reply to Post #83 My god I want some of that
In reply to Post #83 Agreed, think Bob was welling up in the end catching the bigger fish by some way.

In reply to Post #82 A most enjoyable Christmas episode ..... Dare i say it best thing on the telly this holiday so far...!!
And away....

In reply to Post #80 Really enjoyed last nights espisode catching wildies in wales.
But the conversation with the lady fishing guide, and the guy living with cancer, talking about his friendships and love for fishing made his treatment more bearable - was nothing short of inspirational

In reply to Post #80 Mat police are licking their lips right now!

In reply to Post #77 I've enjoyed the show since the first one series one its nice to see a fishing program that isn't all about fishing, having a banging lifestyle and the sell. Relaxing easy to watch no technicals on which rig, setup or casting distance. Sundays one if it was the one about Rudd was enjoyable away from the beaten track and his face when he thought he had caught a new unknown species, the Ruff, was brilliant.
I enjoy the other upbeat programs but this is almost on a different level and they don't take themselves or the fishing to seriously.
And away

In reply to Post #78 Brilliant

In reply to Post #77 wonderful to watch, a joy to see two blokes just enjoying angling for what it should be. A far cry from carp angling these days in so many ways
So glad this series got the green light again, though both the wife and I said Sundays wasn't really as enjoyable as others so far!
Watched a couple of these now, loved the Lake District one, spent a bit of time up there over the years and it was nice to see the Norfolk broads, never been, nice place to stay the windmill and as for Rudd, big ones, one of my favourite fish, stunning. Great show that portrays fishing how it should be more me, relaxing, at one with nature and good times with friends, brilliant.
If I’m honest though, would it appeal to the youth, grandads go fishing
Cracking show though for me

I only started watching this after reading this thread and seeing it was on iPlayer, thanks whoever mentioned that. I downloaded a few and watched some down the lake last weekend and a few more this. One of my favourite fishing programmes already and thoroughly enjoyable, I smiled throughout. Can’t wait to watch the rest.
They remind me of my Dad and his friend, 2 mates occasionally catching something and having a proper laugh while fishing, just how it should be.

In reply to Post #71 Couldn't agree more. However never ask Bob to net a fish for you. Disaster written all over it.

In reply to Post #71 Absolutely
The episode with the heart surgeon in it was quite brilliant
A reminder that for a lot of us, fishing isn't about 'whackers' and trophy shots.
I havenst started the latest series yet, but think it needs remembering there is a serious reason why Bob started fishing with Paul in the beginning . They had both had heart surgery and Paul in particular struggled with the life changes needed and recuperation and became quite depressed. I believe it was Pauls idea to introduce him to fishing to get him out of the house and help improve his mental health. As much as Bob plays the fool, the episode where he visited his childhood home was very moving and some of the conversations thru the different series are quite profound .... Its far more than just a fishing show imo.
In reply to Post #69 Yes I remember them. Just goes to show, it's not the rod that catches the fish.
In reply to Post #68 Was it from Woolworths ?
I'm almost certain that I had the blue rod that Bob got out of the car at the start of the episode! My first rod I believe!

still loving this show
not trying to big themselves up / sell me anything / get one over on some other angler or company.
great mates linked by overcoming some very serious health issues and of course, similar careers.
of course Bob is daft - that's part of the show. and part of his persona too.
given the choice of 'angling' tv presenters, i know who i'd most like to fish with...
In reply to Post #60 He could have gone over just trying to stand up as we know!
Not trying to pick holes in it, I'm sure they were surrounded by support boats and other people, just a bit of an oversight along with the unhooking mat imo.
In reply to Post #63 Paul was Pike fishing near the end of the episode from a boat (Looked late summer?) a Jack on the fly - great fun
In reply to Post #63 Not at all,so long as you don't fish for them when spawning which I think is normally around April time.I know a few lakes do have a pike season which tends to be later in the year
In reply to Post #62 Absolutely love this program, fishing for enjoyment only, how it should be. I thought Paul mentioned fishing for pike in the summer though, I could be wrong but for me Piking is a winter sport only.
In reply to Post #61 The two have been friends for over 30 years however Bob said when they come to fish together he knows he does get on Pauls nerves
and cant explain why he suddenly turns into a toddler he said maybe because he never had a Father figure as his dad died when he was 7 ?
and said its like I turn into a toddler and see Paul as a father telling him what to do he said why I even blooming need help standing up half the time I just go to pieces lol
In reply to Post #60 It's like it's all an act isn't it..would never have thought that lol.. and when he needed to be serious back to normal. That said actually enjoyed it this week. Even Bob made me smile.
In reply to Post #58 I was amazed Bob didn't have one on. He's very challenged balance wise.
In reply to Post #36 Well of course not everyone has the same sense of humour
if its not for you fine dont watch it
but for me its one of the best programs I have ever seen on TV superb settings showing the true beauty of our countryside and a couple of blokes having a right laugh the camaraderie between them is evident and they kinda catch the excitement of fishing too and they to me are very funny cant wait
AND AWAY !!!!
I did watch it, but as said I struggle with Bob Mortimer being such a twonk. I'm not sure whether he 'plays' for the camera or really is such a fishing idiot😖
At least fishing is represented on mainstream television again in a good light.
In reply to Post #57 I really like the show and especially the focus on enjoyment with the fishing.
I will defo continue watching but...
No unhooking mat for the tench and no life jackets in the boat?
Those Tench were fantastic.
The whole show was a pleasure to watch...simply calming and charming.

Nothing serious. She was just Tolkien in her sleep. ..

In reply to Post #42 programme is ok, borderline boring yet thats part of its charm. Its completely inoffensive which in the this era is perfect for all those snowflakes out there. Ill finish the series 100%, locations are great and I really like Paul Whitehouse.

In reply to Post #47 I smiled and laughed all the way through.

In reply to Post #38 That's a bit harsh Ken!
I'm a big Tolkien fan and the trilogy is what introduced me to that universe. Watch the behind the scenes stuff, so much love and attention went in to those movies.
The Hobbit trilogy on the other hand....

What a great episode ! Really enjoyable TV

I'm the same, I do struggle watching Bob Mortimer, he is not funny, just a prat.
Mind you a fair bit better than 5 Celebrities Go Fishing and Les Dennis
In reply to Post #29 not for me either, can't watch anything with bob mortimer in,just dont find him funny at all,
he's definitely not a comedian.
In reply to Post #32 He's had loads of health issues and some serious for quite sometime
Chris Rea was a bit of shock! Looked liked he’d been run over on the road to hell!!
In reply to Post #30 “everyone knows Korda would have been better”
I have to disagree with you as Ali would definitely have found a way to be the centre of attention!
In reply to Post #29 its ok . watchable and harmless and good to see 2 old friends on the bank. Although I've never found Bob funny in the slightest and shooting stars well that maybe the least funniest programme I've ever seen. More of Harry Enfield and chums guy. personal preference.
Don't forget they had the Nash boys in background at bentley as consultants to the programme too. everyone knows Korda would have been better
In reply to Post #1 Not for me, I dont find them particularly funny, and obviously the fishing is mediocre
In reply to Post #24 There are 3 series on BBC I player and the Christmas special,I have watched them all a few times now.I find them both hilarious and the excitement Bob shows when they catch is what it's all about

In reply to Post #1 a wonderful and gentle half hour showcasing some gorgeous scenery (with a bit of fishing thrown in).
In reply to Post #25 Agreed , can't wait .

One of the best angling shows i've ever watched,I've watched every episode from the begining, its just so enjoyable to see two good friends enjoying their fishing and friendship, and the banter is brilliant not to mention bob's constant battle with gravity.
Some of the places they have stayed at are fantastic, I'm trying to get the Mrs to agree to staying in the london bus in series 2 episode 4
And awaaaay!!!, as bob would say
In reply to Post #23 I've just registered to BBC I player watched one of the episodes.... .they're bonkers, got the top box set to record both series, thanks for that
