In reply to Post #34 Monster hemp isn't Chinese either. I believe it French. Seed size is smaller but the consistency of batches is good. I've found Chinese hemp to be very hit and miss. The small seed size resembles tiny water snails too.

In reply to Post #36 Last got hemp from my guy in April,21 , mate. It was still $60 for a 50lb sack... Sure more now☹️

In reply to Post #34 Where i get mine now. I like Haiths but its just way too expensive. The local feed shops sacks of hemp just seem to be mostly dust and chopped up blue bailer twine.

In reply to Post #33 Monster particles, dry hemp is £35 for 20k which is reasonable and its good hemp splits very well. There is postage on top but i normally order a sack of maples or groats etc with it and its 7.50p post.

In reply to Post #32 I know exactly what you're talking about. Back in the 90's there was a farmer near Machester Airport who used to keep birds, think they were more aviary type, but he also had said chalk board and more mixes than I'd ever even heard off.
At the end he even stocked or could get anything you asked for...sadly he then turned the farm into a Car Park for the airport!
The last firm I used/use now is BJF Feeds in Yorkshire, some chaps on Newhay Lake over there put me onto them, I've mentioned them on here a few times. They also do said myriad of mixes, I would doubt anyone would be using one if you chose 1 at random
Have a nosey Click here
EDIT, There's a small farm shop near Tacklesaver in Handforth near where I lived and the chap there will get anything you want, no chalk board though as in his words 'prices change to much'...so he had a secret print out with them on instead I used to put in a order of say £100, go to collect and pay and he'd stick a tenner back in my hand and say 'good lad'...wish more places would be like that!

In reply to Post #31 >>>>"How many do you want, he has 20 ton of them", I just said "about 5 kilo's"."
That made me laugh<<<
I kid you not, when I went round, he had an enormous barn and it was packed with everything in sacks stacked high on pallets, these large 1 ton bags that you get gravel and sand in etc, and then he had loads of his products bagged up in kilo bags etc like a normal dealer, and there was a long line of these large tubs with two handles you can buy full of mixed particles and each one was different individual pigeon and bird fanciers etc, it was like finding paradise. And he walked me round showing me everything he had stocked.
His price list was just a chalkboard on the wall and never had a printed one to hand out as the prices were always changing with new stock. He told me that I was the first person he had had wanting things for fishing as all his trade was for the avarian. But, his place was in the middle of nowhere down a long country lane and no sign up etc, it just looked like a normal farm.
I actually ended up with a sack of maples they was that cheap. And as I was loading the car up, our lass started moaning about how long I had been, obviously, she has never found "Eldorado", Women just don't understand how a few pulses and seeds can turn a carp angler on.

In reply to Post #29 >>>>Go back and ask his mate, the one who put you in touch with him in the first place<<<<
I cannot, he was only shopping himself and overhead what I had asked for at the counter and just happened to leave as I was leaving, so I do not have the faintest who it was as it was just an anonymous random meeting.
Even, the land developers who took over the farm to turn it into a caravan park do not know what happened to him and neither no longer does his phone number work on his business card and I cannot even find him doing a google search or even trying to find a small family run pigeon feed supplier other than the well know ones.

I had it all sorted with my particles, especially with the likes of maize, maples and hemp about 3 years ago. I had found particle paradise.
The story went briefly, I was trying to track some maples down, and could not find anywhere that sold them local. One day, I walked out of an animal feed, farming style business, when as I got to my car, a man who had been in the warehouse came to me and said he had overheard me asking for maples and said he had a friend who may have some and did I want him to give he a call, I replied "Yes" and he rung him, he then said to me, "How many do you want, he has 20 ton of them", I just said "about 5 kilo's".
To cut the story short, I raced to this person small farm and found that he supplied pigeon food to racing pigeon breeders / racers and he had a warehouse packed with everything you could imagine and made up pigeon feeds to the breeders own personal requirements.
But, it was the price that he was charging, it was way below anywhere else I had seen, it was about a £1 for two kilos of hemp, £3 a sack of maize, £8 a sack of maples. I ended up with a boot full of sacks of various particles.
Sadly though, with no warning, he sold his farm and vanished and I have been unable to track him down to see if he just moved his business, or perhaps he passed away. I cannot even find any body else who runs a similar business.

In reply to Post #21 I bought a plastic tub of prepared Dynamite particles when I ran out of my home prepared pigeon conditioner mid session. The tub I got was horrible, a thick lump of fat congealed with particles in, in the middle of the tub. I had to break it down by hand and pour boiling water over it to be able to use them. This was in summer time, so the oil from the particles should not have solidified.
It is far better to prepare pigeon conditioner and hemp at home than turn up and be forced to use what could well be absolute rubbish.
At least with my own particles, be it hemp, pigeon conditioner or maize, I know they are fresh, and properly prepared.
I have noticed the price of hemp has rocketed over the past few years. I think last sack I paid £38 for, and that was Mega Hemp, a whole £1 more than standard hemp. The quality has gone down as well; more dust and twigs in the sack now than 5 years ago.

In reply to Post #14 It's obvious to me mate, quite clearly you are just a tight noddy and in denial
What a load of rubbish they're talking, if I had some dry maples I'd prove it, but I guess they'd still deny it.
Of the cuff I'd say all particles swell to at least double their size/weight, some like Maples even more.
Copdock Mill 25kg Maples £17.99 Double their weight so 50kg wet ish, that's 36p/kg prepped plus a little for gas/electricity.
Well known particle site, 10kg Maples prepped £17.99, P&P £7.49, Total £25.48
10kg cost home made £3.60 plus say 36p for electricity (3kw/hr @12p/kwhr) call it £4
My figures can be way out and it still wouldn't be close. I do buy in when I can't be arsed, doesn't mean I'm under the illusion it's about the same cost as making my own, each to their own.

In reply to Post #8 Hitman I actually asked you something to an old post in the battery thread/boat section last week. When you get a chance could you have a nose mate. I think you might be able to help me regarding lithium batteries. Ignore the link I put up, Amazon sold out of the 50Ah version now... But I've got my eye on a different one.

In reply to Post #12 It's not even close,I can go to my local animal feed place and get 25kg groats,20kg pigeon conditioner and 25kg maize for less than £60.I would rather have it fresh and add my own liquids,1kg of unprepared groats will swell to nearly 1.5kg prepared so again better value

In reply to Post #13 I tried to say all of this but apparently i was still wrong

In reply to Post #7 Because you know it's prepared properly, and you can add your own additives at the soak stage if you want, because you can guarantee quality of your own gear. I wouldn't dream of buying pre prepped

In reply to Post #11 Tbf hes probably right. Its £1 a kg prepaired and delivered. All factored in im sire making it yourself isnt cheaper, but thats not why i do it. You can make a much higher quality, much fresher hemp at home.

In reply to Post #9 Well this guy on you tube was having none of it,he said it costs more to prepare it yourself than buying it already done.

In reply to Post #7 Always prepare my own and always use it fresh, you know exactly what's in it and you know it's 100% fresh.

In reply to Post #7 I know what your saying, I wouldn't get a lot for £46.00 plus I like to have mine fresh not some heavily salted up stuff that's probably been on the shelf for six months or more Braders, I generally take a 5 kilo bucket of mixed particles and 5 kilos of boilie and pellet this time of year for two nights, particle goes on soak Tuesday night cooked Wednesday night and left in the pressure cooker overnight outside to cool down then into a bucket Thursday morning with a splash of good oil ready to use at the lake Friday afternoon.

Why would anyone buy and prepare their own particles these days with it so easily available from companies already done.I posted on a you tube video about preparing particles yourself and saving money.I had one person tell me I was completely wrong and must be a noddy and a tight git as it saves no money whatsoever. Its nice to see that I'm not the only one who still likes to do my own

In reply to Post #5 It's crap mate. I'm very lucky in that I get anything and everything trade to do with fishing gear or bait. Absolutely anything. Except hemp/particles. All of the local places I used to use have now closed down. For donkeys years I used to drive 20mins to a place at Sutton At Hone, they were superb.
Now I have to use online for my hemp. Part of the reason I use the people I do, is that it's only £5 delivery for 25kg. If I get two sacks, they want like £13 delivery. So I just get regular 25kg sacks delivered one at a time now.
They clearly think that I'm just some random idiot, as they tried hard to pull my pants down for an extra tenner last week the cheeky mofos... And they know I'm a very regular customer too.

Luckily a good mate of mine owns a pet food supplies local to home less than a few miles from my front door so saves me delivery costs picking it up, I get a 25 kilo sack of Hemp premium quality always clean and splits well, 20 kilo of Buckton's pigeon conditioner and 10 kilo of 4mm elipse pellets for £46.00, I was in just last week for the above paid about the same off him for the last 15 years, the prices online are near criminal for a sack of Hemp, I know I'm very fortunate to have a good mate in the animal feed market would be a costly exercise these days buying it online.

As a side note...Remember early last year when I posted on here and on Faceache how to hard coat the hook baits, that we had came up with so long previous?
Have a look how many mainstream bait companies have released a coated freezer bait since early last year.

In reply to Post #2 It's not just about consultants and the like anymore though mate. Like this example, there are tonnes of examples of anglers just being completely ripped off, and often just accepting it.
Hook baits/pop ups are another great example. When we first started, it was so hard to convince carp fishing, that something that was actually 100% real food, which actually HAD to rolled one at a time in the palm, and not on a table en masse. Which is then put through numerous processes, that this was worth £13 a tub. Or that a £5 pop up mix tub of pop ups, is really just 20p worth of crap on a commercial scale. Money for old rope. I was told by everyone at the time it would never work, even my good friend who owns the Tackle Box told me it would never work. It did work... Because the quality and results gained were so different to what was already out there. It worked alright...
Fast forwards nearly a decade. Those palm rolled S2 now cost £15 instead of £13 (inflation)... Yet there are numerous people now selling crappy pop up mix pop ups, that cost literally pennies to make, for absolutely exorbitant prices everywhere. A new one pops up every week at the moment. I'm sure like me, Ryan from UB Baits or the previous owner, sits back and laughs at some of the things you now see. They have a sales mans patter to sell the gear, but bottom line anglers are just getting ripped off wholesale.
Imagine if after a few years... I turned to all of the blokes who had caught numerous premium UK 50's etc... And said I was withdrawing the service... That the S2 that they would not go fishing without was no longer available... They could have them still... But that I was going to charge four times the price for them overnight. Undoubtably a lot of them would pay it. But it would be the most stupid business decision ever made.... A decision you'd only make if in truth you had no business... Plus I'd just be a con man.
Don't get conned.

Hemp just keeps sky rocketing in price. But also, there is a terrible perception out there in the world... That we anglers are mugs who will pay a lot more for a product.
For the past two years, I've been sourcing my hemp from an animal feed store up north that specialise in bird feeds. They do 25kg sacks for starters, the hemp itself is great quality and their price has always been competitive. I currently pay £44 for a £25kg sack delivered. £39 for the hemp, £5 delivery.
Suddenly, last week when I went to place my order, things had changed... The £39 per 25kg sack was still there, but was now listed as "Canadian hemp" & "Not fit for fishing". They suddenly had a new extra Chinese type of hemp for £50.50 per 25kg sack (£55.50 delivered)... This stuff is for fishing.
I purchased my £39 sack of hemp, the same as I always do.... Got exactly the same high quality hemp as per... The only difference is it had a new bit of paper stuck onto the sack, with double sided sellotape declaring... Canadian hemp. Not fit for fishing
Don't get conned... This is the first I've ever heard of this one. The hemp itself is identical, comes in the exact same sack as it always did. But apparently us anglers now suddenly need to start paying more than a tenner more than the bird keepers, for exactly the same thing.
