As I have not made a nut mix I am not sure really.

The vanilla meal from CC Moore might go well in it and is only 10% fat (a lot less than the nut meals). Its also not 'sprayed soya' and soya products are less than 35% total content in it I really rate the stuff and have used it for over 10 years in a very successful bait at quite high levels (from memory its about 20% in that bait). I think it would go well with a nut bait and could replace some of the tiger nut meal/flour whilst adding to the creamy effect.

Another option is more milk fractions such as WPC but that is going to cost more money.

not slagging it off in anyway shape or form mate.
i wanted a bait with those high quality milks in and some nut as they respond well to it on my lake.
i bet that vanilla milk smells quality though.

The vanilla milk powder isn't the stuff sprayed onto soya flour - granted it's not WPC or a casein but its a good ingredient. However you are right - the better milk proteins are great additions. Might change mine next time now!

No, I like the stuff. It's fairly neutral in terms of rolling.

im happy with the peanut being strong in the bait, i kind of hoped it would be to be honest. ill add a few drops of evaporated milk flavor to round it off.

any issues with rolling?

id rather have the better milk proteins than the vanilla milk powder mate.
you mix looks good but im staying with the bulk of the mix.
as smurf said the fat will only increase with the addition to bird food.
the tiget nut meal is to give the bait coarseness and aid with the breakdown.

I have a mix comparable to yours and also wanted another type of bait against the fishmeal bait I have. I think this will be a nice one.

The peanut protein (low fat) is really a nice ingredient but it is really dominant in terms of smell of the finished bait. I have used 15 percent peanut protein with 7 grams of milky b and you can hardly smell the milky b, while this is a very dominant powdered flavour. If you break a bait open, you can smell it though.

Based on your mix I'm not sure I'd have both tiger nut flour and tiger nut meal. I'd drop the semo to 200 max and add some birdfood too.

Mate, I've been doing just this and have tried a bunch of variations... here is one that I've caught using. The peanut protein is low fat as is the Vanilla milk powder from BAF.

150 semo
150 CLO
200 tiger nut flour
200 peanut protein (low fat)
200 vanilla milk powder (low fat)
50 liver powder
Few little extras

Hydro wheat
Molasses

i wanted a second bait to use against my fishmeal, its more for the milks to be honest.
its not something i want to use all year round and i don't pre bait so the inclusion levels of the bait would be less.

what would you recommend to get the fat down to 10%?

I have never felt the need to make a nut bait. One thing you need to be careful of is the fat content and for long term health carp don't need more than 10% (half this is fine depending on which fats they are). I tend to prebait so for me personally this is important.

The mix you describe is at least 13-15% fats. If you swap half the semo for clo add another 1.5 -2% to this.

Make sure the nut products and lamlac are fresh or the fats will deteriorate quickly.

The CLO from Quality Baits is a finely ground product and does help a bit with binding. Substituting half the semolina with this CLO should not affect the binding of your mix. Other CLO variations are coarser and may not help with binding so much.

I understand about the cost of the whey, it makes a big difference to the overall cost of the bait.

id like to keep the lamlac for cost reasons, i know the quality will suffer some.

is CLO a finer grind of seed? im worried about it binding due to the tiger meal.

Jay, I don't see any reason why your mix wouldn't work as it is. Having said that I think if you can afford the extra cost I would swop the Lamlac for Whey protein and at least some of the Semolina for a birdfood, one of the CLO variations would be fine.

Divide each of your 1 kilo mix ingredients by 7. That way you do not waste expensive ingredients.
Roughly Enough to make a trial 1 egg mix, without wasting too much if it is good, or cr8p, to roll, or too soft/hard, falls apart, etc.
Experiment from that. Be careful with lots of oily ingredients like nut meals, can be a nightmare to hold together or roll nicely.
Note accurately what you change, and before long you will have a winner.
