In reply to Post #137 That's a hard-hitting post and a bit off the Carl/Alex topic - but I couldn't agree more with what you say. Wise words. I live in Harefield and regularly see first-hand the difference between the media and 'real-life' experience of at least one of the 'idols'.

Had a 1303S Beetle back in the early 80s
Got p*ssed up one night back in 1984 and thought I'd spend the night in the back of it
Woke up about 08.30 in the morning covered in my own sick and it was all over the plastic seats ... Had to drive home hanging like a monkey, and then spend 3 hrs trying to clean the thing
Stank of sick for months ... Not my greatest idea but would have made a great video blog id imagine

In reply to Post #120 Ultimately, people need to stop encouraging kids who want to join an industry which pays buttons, or at least give the realities of it. Get a trade, travel the world and go fishing when you want to, not when you feel you have to. Or follow your dream and realise you'll never be able to afford what some people who earn 24k a year in Aldi do.
Everyone wants to be the next XYZ dangler without realising the pitfalls that come with it. If you want to be paid 16k a year sticking £5 stickers onto a pack of hooks then fair play to you. Just realise at some point, you'll have to choose between syndicate fees or selling your tournaments just to stick fuel in the car.
Some of the biggest idols in this game haven't got a pot to piss in because all they did was spunk their wages on acid, beer and takeaways down Yateley. If that's your future, then good luck. I just hope you find happiness, because some of those idols are far from idols to the kids who hate them because they were never there.

I just got round to watching the video. Jeez, what a load of old negative cobblers and pseudo psychology/sociology nonsense this thread is.
The younger one has grown out of the fishing, prefers the outdoors stuff and would rather not work with his brother anymore. He makes money from YouTube so makes his own channel.
I won’t watch it, but I’m sure people his age with similar interests would.
Fair play to him for making the change, I love my family but I would rather put pins in my eyes than work with them.

In reply to Post #111 And there in lies the problem. These kids have all responsibility for their own actions taken away from them, because they are a “victim of society”. They know the difference between right and wrong, and exactly what they are doin, yet there are very little consequences for their actions.
A lot arent just naughty kids acting oit cause their parents dont love them, they are little *******s who feel they can behave however they want, and behave like victims when they are told not to do something. How many people get attacked or even murdered for telling a group of kids to bugger off or to stop doing something

In reply to Post #110 Totally agree - it's easy to blame the kids without understanding the environment a lot of these 'deviant' kids come from. If you ever get the chance to speak to a social worker about this stuff it's a real eye opener. Many of them have drug addicts as parents, and have been let down by the system many times over before they reach their teens. Rather than blaming the kids - you'd do well to think about the society that raised them.
|
|
|
In reply to Post #109 It's all about opportunities. Many of the "kids in neighbourhoods" haven't been offered any chances in life whatsoever.
|

In reply to Post #108 Going on a few trips to do a little soul searching just shows they were raised right and have a positive view of this ****t1 world we live in at the moment... there are so many "kids" these days just doing all sorts of deviant things in their neighborhoods, drink, smoke all kinds of sh1t and kill each other with a knife... Really wish more kids would go on a trip like that...

In reply to Post #107 I agree.
I'm an identical twin and while we get on like a house on fire we got to a certain age and we had to go our separate ways to avoid killing each other. Best thing we ever did, we're best mates to this day.

I think people are reading far too much into all of this.He wants to do his own thing,he has lived and worked with his brother and that must get hard regardless how close you are.He loves his outdoor pursuits and has met a girl and has been travelling back and forth to Austria. He might be in he happiest place he has been in for a long time, doing his own thing with a new partner to do it with.Good luck to him 👍

In reply to Post #103 Thing that surprises me is that nowadays, it´s so easy to publicly ridicule someone on social media, without even taking the time to think about the devastating effect and consequences it can cause to one´s mental degradation. Social media has taken another turn for the worse, with online bullying increasing exponentially. Sometimes with direct intent or indirect, but the target in question, if not in a stable state of mind, can suffer drastically.
Social media is a "forum for free speech" for constructive criticism and discussion, and not schoolyard bullying.
Not referring to anyone directly, in this thread, but just a general thought, that everyone should at some stage, take a step back and filter their thoughts, before hammering away at the keyboard.
Unfortunately, not everyone is mentally equipped to withstand a barrage of negative attacks to one´s pysche. Others might brush it off as abit of harmless banter, but others might experience the exact opposite. Rant over
Back to Carl & Alex Alex, wish you the best mate, with your future endeavours Sometimes you just need to get away from it all I usually take a long walk in the forest, find an old oak tree & give it hug Keeps me grounded

You probably don’t know anybody who’s suffered mental health issues or acted on suicidal thoughts, not saying it’s the case here as I don’t know these lads or their videos. But that sort of public ridicule wouldn’t help or be amusing

Me and my girlfriend traveled all over the west coast of America in her Kia. We’d sleep I there most nights and camp on others then treat ourselves to a motel every now and again. We did it for months and it was a brilliant experience.
Maybe people are jumping to conclusions here. The bloke might just fancy it.

Some of my best memories were made living out of a hatchback. You could argue that people knocking a young bloke doing what he enjoys and monetising it in favour of a normal 9 to 5 actually want their heads testing.
If he did, however, have mental health issues then giggling about it on social media is really going to be big help.
Grow up ffs. His new fishing partner has boobs, he has a giiiiirlfriend..
Get a life, but don’t record and broadcast it because somebody with little else on and a small appendage will probably ridicule it
|

There are quite a few YouTubers, who do and have done this sort of alternative content or for some it becomes a lifestyle..
I mentioned many times on here,I do fishing without rods,ie survivalist, bushcraft, bike packing etc..it's a way of temporarily removing ones self from mankind and all the rubbish that comes with modern living, for a short while you can 'drop out'
In fact ,in the woods, nearby someone has done just that, they've had enough and now lives in tent ,by a stream, complete with solar charger..,filters etc..
As for Alex ,good luck..

In reply to Post #88 They have had to fish pretty much full time the get the content on some of their most popular videos like reservoir diaries. In reply to Post #79 Not overly surprised. Bottom line is, you can't live with your brother and his Mrs forever. At what age do you realise the whole scenario is fine, until the point when it isn't?
They've been doing it for what....20 years? Compared to previous years, the content has been rather drab. I do wish them all the best, but as I said what I started the thread, I think the whole thing regarding music and subscription based content has probably put them at a crossroads. Personally, I think they were mad to do this full time.

In reply to Post #45 His vid looked like he'd been kicked out to make way for his bros girlfriend - maybe he's sick of the headboard banging in the room next door keeping him awake . . .!
I really liked their fishing content in terms of being refreshing and well edited however I always thought that the older brother was the brains and the younger a bit thick and just a good (if not arguably better) angler - headboard banging aside it was maybe always destined to end in tears when one is switched on and ambitious and the other has perhaps more simple aspirations . . . . . .just sayin!

In reply to Post #60 I’ve had an idea.
Write a book about you and a Vauxhall Astra exploring Berkshire and Beyond. Have a chapter on pebble skimming, one on the Easy snack consumption, mushroom carving, roadside toilet tricks and the stuff we all really need content on. Oh and show us a dramatic moody picture of you locking the door and packing your last 12 litres of Lidl strongblow….

One of them had a bit of a mental breakdown before didn't they. I get their names mixed up.
I think this will work out for them. I know people say that his new sleeping in a car with a pot noodle video is boring. But to me I enjoy thag kind of YouTube content for some reason. I generally put it on as noise in the background whilst I'm doing stuff.
|

In reply to Post #43 It's called camping, you and I do it except with more gear and fishing rods
It's a blog, there will be both decent and boring episodes but thats the way blogs work. He's a young man with a decent head on his shoulders and, having provided us with years on entertainment can probably be forgiven what in your opinion is a false start. I think he deserves a bit more patience than that.

In reply to Post #62 ive just watched the end video and then clicked the link to watch Alex's new video....the content was poor but editing brilliant as you would expect. he seemed to be driving to an unknown location to visit the out doors spending about £140 in diesal no doubt....sleeping in a car at the side of a road won't interest many people that's for sure, then when he sets up camp he settles down for the night with two crappy pot noodle type things for an evening meal .....he's no bear grylls thas for sure...
I don't think he's in a great place and wandering around aimlessly it looks like until his savings run out....
I hope.he gets to where he wants to,wherever that may be and wish them both the best of luck.

In reply to Post #61 55’s you are exactly on my thought pattern . We all
see things differently, however I got the feeling he had been a bit pushed out and sort of lost his way .

In reply to Post #52 Been a massive fan for years and wish them both the very best, but can’t help feeling the “split” wasn’t necessary. They were already branching out into other videos through Alex’s love for cookery, foraging and exploring which I really enjoyed. They could have approached it by doing a more formal expansion of the channel into these new areas - Carl focussing on fishing and leaving the rest to Alex. Each focussing on different styles of video - they wouldn’t have even needed to work together, per se.
They worked so hard to build up their brand through years of work and were at a point whereby, I presume, they could make a comfortable living off what started off as a hobby. I hope they don’t regret the change.

In reply to Post #39 They’re local to me and lovely lads, both deserve to be able to pursue their individual ambitions. You have to remember they started that channel when they were both children and it got big, throw in the early nash recruitment etc and it’s a career that created and drive itself. They haven’t really had the “chance” per say to do their own things, I personally see it as a massive win as I love outdoors stuff and will watch Alex’s with gusto, and it will probably mean the collaborations they already do will have more injected into them.
It’s not the end of Carl and alex, it’s more a structural / marketing change.
Good on them I say, zero egos.

It will affect their back catalogue, unless they want to go back and edit those videos.
Plenty of vendors that offer royalty free music subscriptions with huge libraries, they can sign up to one of those easily enough.

In reply to Post #17 People need to read the post before commenting.
They had an agreement with a music label that they could use the music and the label profited from the ad revenue in return. Those t&c’s have now been changed.
|
|
|
In reply to Post #1 I’ve been following this to. I don’t know what’s involved in producing video content but wonder how easy it easy to remove said audio tracks so they’re not in breach of anything relating to paid rights to music.
|
|
|
In reply to Post #14 That’s what I suggested on their insta post, it’s why you have to be careful with everything you use in videos they either didn’t check properly or thought artists would be happy with them using their music and just getting the ad revenue?? £5000 a year is steep for one song but they didn’t do their homework but again it would be very simple to remove the music
|
|
|
It sounds like they have built a business in which they decided not to pay some of their suppliers and now they are being asked to pay their business may not be viable?
Given that You Tube have openly spoken about having algorithms that detect copyright material and informs the owners this was foreseeable.
I wish them well and think that they seem to be good guys but it is literally no different from a TV channel taking their You Tube videos and broadcasting them without paying or asking for permission. As content creators you would think that they would understand this?
|
|
|
Record labels and artists cant make money from selling records anymore. So there starting to look for other revenue streams instead.
I looked at the post they put up on Facebook, and i can't see why they need to delete a load of there vids over music issues. Surely removing the music from there edits would do
|
|
|
In reply to Post #6 I’m not surprised TBH.
Fishing video content like theirs, doesn’t need music.
That’s what you get when you add extras to your own footage.
3rd party T&C’s can change, and that has to be legally adhered to.
Gonna have a utube knock on effect, royalties 💰 what must everyone else be thinking, Alan Blair and co. Love a bit of Drum and Bass.

In general music is used as background ambience in order to complement the narrative or enrich content within scenes, unfortunately it seems more effort is put into creating a soundtrack of whatever is deemed cool and street to push a image instead of making content that is actually credabil and relevant

it's mad that something like a you tube channel can generate enough income for them to earn a wage, yet your income can potentially be taken away in the blink of an eye...imagine going to a bank with a business plan and said we've got this business idea but it can be taken away at any time by a third party we have no control of....is it quite possible the end of making a living from you tube is nearly over..I don't know enough tbh it just seems a shame that this could happen to them

I saw their post about deleting loads of videos due to the people they had deals with regarding use of music changing their t’s and c’s. Think they said one person/company wanted £5000 a year for just one of their videos
I’m sure they will be alright and just post content that doesn’t have music that will cost them money

Looks like they are at a crossroads in regards to submitting content on Youtube. They cannot stump up the money for music licenses and as a result have ended up with a copyright strike, and have had to delete dozens and dozens of videos to comply.
I suspect it won't be too long before they end up going down the paid subscription route, they have said themselves it's an option.
