In reply to Post #28 You are over thinking it , the amount you will be buying you probably won't have clue if its Cane or sugar beet molasses , not really sure what vitamins you would expect to be in a 3rd boiled molasses , as all will have been destroyed by the heat, if there were any in the first place as the syrup is boiled in the sugar manufacturing process, No vitamins will have been added.
Just buy what you can find.

In reply to Post #28 I’m using the stuff from AA baits at the moment
I actually got it as free gift with an order I put in with AA

Hi looking into this as there are a few different types or grades of molasses can anyone recommend one that might be best please

In reply to Post #26 A fifty fifty mix of active csl and molasses makes for a very active dip!
Also dabbled with pomegranate molasses which the carp rather like

In reply to Post #25 Thank you for the advice mate, much appreciated

In reply to Post #11 Beet molasses is high in betaine but no where near as sweet as cane molasses and comes with a high non-sugars concentration, i would not used it and make about 40kt of it a year, you want to use cane molasses as the sucrose content is much higher and also VFA's are lower

In reply to Post #23 The runnier types have soya oil blended in them to make them suitable for spraying
In reply to Post #1 Many different grades of Molasses from a number of countries, I always tried to source the one with a high solid content and the most betaine.
Bream can be a problem on most baits, more so when you get out from the margins where they seem more comfortable.
Squid Brand fish sauce is another cheap option.

In reply to Post #19 Quite a while ago i fished one water and the bream were a proper nightmare. I used mainline’s essential opal, 30ml plus of molasses per egg!, sweet nutraspice, spice cajouser, couple of additional sweeteners and a bit more and rolled it into what I called “mega nuggets” 30 x 20mm barrels, smelt divine lol, get on the carp and they were in the net

In reply to Post #20 I’ve been lucky enough to fish a few larger virtually unfished waters near me a few years ago now and it’s was my go to method, 50 - 60 balls of Vitalin loaded with molasses, sweet corn and hemp, few KG of 20mms over the top, I have caught carp within a matter of hours of introducing it, once on the boilie which I have found them to be pretty instant if the are un-pressured fish, I just used to ease back on the Vitalin and just use boilie
Fishing it out at range where the bream live and you will get what you get. All depends on the bream stocks but it is a fact, they do like sweet things, and fish things and everything

In reply to Post #19 Definitely one to try on a water without them or with very few in then 🤣🤣

In reply to Post #2 I agree, bream love the stuff, made the mistake once of using it along with proper Bunspice liquid that bakers use, sugar syrup based on Enervite Gold. Smelt and tasted heavenly, and a weekend full of snotty nets ensured I never used it again.

In reply to Post #16 Mixed with warm water for me too, soaks into stuff brilliant, Vitalin being perfect
In reply to Post #16 Yep, I've made the rodent mistake before, cost me not only the bait tub they got in to, but my bed chair, chair and rod bag too....
Thanks all, hugely appreciated. Start with new waters in April so I'm sure I will be on here with some feedback 🤣

In reply to Post #14 Here to help each other mate

In reply to Post #13 Fantastic, thank you 🙂

In reply to Post #1 Blackstrap molasses is the most concentrated, manufactured off the 3rd boil, nice and thick and contains the most vitamins and minerals but has a higher salt content
I used to buy normal molasses from local pet stores, equine department, 5 litres for around £6 - 10, have a look on EBay, sack of Vitalin, job done
No carp tax either

In reply to Post #9 Could it be more they are better at different types of year? Sugar Beet Molasses contains more salt, so potentially better pre spawning? Then maybe sugar cane afterwards? Or am I overthinking it? 🤣
In reply to Post #9 I was told by Serenity that beet molasses has a large amount of free glutamic acid and 5% betaine, while cane molasses contains none of these, so I know which one I would choose
In reply to Post #8 I never get that precise with it, I just cook some hemp and maize in a saucepan then add a big dessert spoon of treacle and then shake in some Maggi
In reply to Post #1 Go for sugar cane molasses rather than sugar beet molasses
In reply to Post #7 Ha yes - the sweet and salty particles. Do you mind me asking what quantity you use? I would prob go 50ml Molasses plus 10ml Maggis per kilo of particle?
In reply to Post #5 I just added it to cooked hemp/maize while it was still hot, the heat makes it nice and runny plus any liquid remaining thins it out, add a bit of that Maggi sauce as well and you have a Terry Hearn special
In reply to Post #4 Could be worth a try. As I say just trying to use a liquid that doesn't break the bank, 2 little ones now and not loads of time fishing so will be trying to manage with a lower budget 🤣
In reply to Post #4 Do you add anything to thin black treacle out? I simply heat it up a bit over a bowl of boiling water.
You could just buy a tin of black treacle form the Supermarket and see how you get on with it so you aren't stuck with loads if you decide it's no good
In reply to Post #2 Ok mate, wasn't sure if it was just they like it or they really really like it 🤣🤣
It's a new water so I'm not 100% sure on what the bream are like yet, I may use something else for now until I'm sure!
In reply to Post #1 Bream are a massive issue when using molasses. Even more than they are with pellets imo. Tench are fond of it too. It's a brilliant addition for carp bait but I'd swerve it unless in a bream free water

Morning all,
Couple of things. I'm obviously looking at a good value liquid additive, and Molasses looks perfect... Couple of things...
Is there any types of Mollasses that are better than others? Maybe a higher or lower sugar content? Mole Valley do an own brand one at a very good price.
Secondly, of course Bream could be an issue, but having not used it before, are they a nightmare with it, or is it realistically the same as using any sweet liquid that they seem to love!
Cheers all,
Aaron
