I quite like the look of the Gardner 10ft GTC’s, anyone got a view on these as don’t see them mentioned much, they seem very well made.
They’d be on my “short” list

I'm very pleased with my 10 ft Wychwood Extricator Plus rods. Great rods if you want something in the mid price range.

Not in 3lb as I use 2.75 in 10ft.

Can’t fault them. Great rods imho. Love the TX2 as I have them in 12 ft 3lb also.

Still using mine and love them.
Solid bags to 50yds, 3 bait stringers to 70yds, excellent action and not too mushy.

If you can find them the TFG Compact Commercial 10' 2.5lb Carp Rods are a very nice rod and buck the trend of 3lb+ test curves for very little money.

I had the Shimano Tribal Velocity 2.75lb in 11ft and they were horrible and heavy blank

I was in the same boat as you mate but decided to get a little more and now have ordered a set of 3 custom Harrison aviators 10ft 3.25 I paid £375 for each I was happy with that tbh seeing I was quoted about £350 for the torrix each

Thanks I think It’s all about fashion 50 ml rings high tcs I think people go for 3.25 to replace there 12fts because as you probably know once you have used 10fts for a while a 12ft feels so big and awkward I know a few people that have sold there 12fts for that reason

I was talking about the 3.25 tc but to be honest i much prefer the ballista stalker to the torrix , just my personal opinion .Thousands of torrix have been sold so lots like them but i dont know why people buy 3.25 rods and above with stupidly big guides to fish small venues.

Lots to choose from .I really only know the Harrisons range but this is what there is.

Torrix 10ft 2.5 t c, 2.75 t.c, 3.tc, 3.25 t.c
Aviator 10ft 2.75 t.c, 3.25 t.c
Ballista 10ft 2.75 t.c
The distances you are fishing any one of those will suffice but the higher tcs i find are not great fishing rods. I use and have used the ballista 10ft for some years and had carp to 41lb and pike to 31lb on them with no problem whatsoever and felt every lunge and run on them and its a great feeling feeling that blank bend .

If you watch the new carpoligy video mate they do a 10ft retractable rod review. Ive a set if the sonik insurants and they come out with great reviews. Ive the 10ft 3.5lb tc and they would easily do the 80yards your talking about. Can get some decent deals on ebay, will pick 3 up for £208 delivered.

Looking for a mid price point 10 foot set of rods; need to be custom built, so either FS or Harrison, budget £300 ish per rod. Short list are S Class 3lb and Torrix in the same; any experience of and views on these pls, or any alternatives? Smallish waters, up to 80 yds but mostly closer, need some backbone but prefer progressive/through action. No interest or need for retractables. Thank you

I use the 10’ Darenth valley marker, spomb, device rod for my deeper it’s really good if you don’t have to cast far out, like small lakes etc.
They go with my Harrison 10’ torrix customs cork I don’t use big rods as I don’t fish massive lakes or rivers

Seem short handled but you can get them customised, I like the spacing and handle size myself tho.if you want longer Very nice light thin blank the weave finish is brilliant. My only gripe is no line clip

I've only played a fish that hook pulled on them so far but the action is nice they cast well for the length even kneeling down had no issues getting the distance I need. I can take some pics and email them if you want a closer look

Got a pair of Tacklebox 2.75 C-FX rods standard build as short handles ideal for me. Great rods for the price. These replaced a pair of Darent Valley 10ft 3lb rods which are now my pike ones, excellent for deadbaiting near in.

Has anyone used the Darent Valley Rods in 10ft 3lb or 3.5lb?

They look really good for the money.

Greys GT4 10ft 3lb are lovely rods - paired with 5500 ci4s they’re a pleasure to use, and can still stick a 3oz lead with 15lb synchro loaded a very healthy distance if needed.

Recommended 👍🏻

For me the Tx-2 is a overhyped stiff rod with ugly pink wrapings, Avid traction is alot better imo.

got the original tribal 10ft rods, 3lb tc, possibly the nicest rods ive used. Ultra thin handle, and will stop an express train. They are hard to find because everyone who got a set keeps them.

I can’t recommend the CTX enough. I’ve got them in 9ft and had fish from weedy waters up to 27, never felt like they were out of grunt. I use Harrison’s as my main carp rod, but can’t argue with the quality of the CTX, never felt like a budget rod.

I use the Traction Pro in 3lb, cracking rods, great quality, cast well, but places I fish are about 6 acres max. Good playing action, full length butts, 40mm butt ring. And at £90 a go brilliant value, in my opinion absolutely no point paying more for sticks to do the same job.

Yes the standard ones come with shorter handles. Give Gary Peet a ring at the Tackle box he designed the rods and can talk you through them. When they arrived and I took them out of the tube I was stunned how light they felt. Well worth the wait and glad I went for the custom build which wasn’t that much more than the standard build.

They had the handle length increased to 17inches long on the 10ft CFX black rods when their shipped to them already made up as standard if you want the handle length longer it’s £20 a rod I was quoted couple of weeks ago and they ain’t doing any rod building or mods till April onwards due to how busy they are at the moment

Do the standard ones on their website only come with short handles? Are they a light / thin blank?

Been looking at them a while but always been put off having to wait for them to be made etc.

Thanks

Had a set of Tackle box CFX 3lb rods custom built last year and can’t fault them. I went for the custom build option because I didn’t want short handles which a lot of 10ft rods seem to have.

Another for the TB Cfx. If you dig around on here theres plenty of favourable comments from users of 10ft rods. I have the SMD model for spodding and Deeper use..Im more than pleased with it. TBH if you go for one of these a TC of 3lb would be fine

I've got two sets of 10fters now. Bought the first set for the kids and then liked the 10ft lenght so much for small waters that I bought a second pair.

1st pair - Shimano Tribal Velocity 3lb TC - really like them. great quality, shrink wrap handles. cant find them anywhere now.

2nd pair - Wychwood riots, 3lb TC. bought 3 for about £120 off ebay new. super impressed with the quality for the money.

Dont reject them because they're cheap. I am amazed at what you get for the money these days.

I'm in a similar position myself and I'm down to the greys gt2 rods as can get matching spod rod

ESP onyx 10ft 3. 25

Free spirit ctx 10ft 40mm

I'm leaning to the greys but can't seem to get past the free spirit I only cast up to 20 wraps usually under 10 tho

I'd invest in something more hi-end. I use 10ft Hi S 2 3/4 with Daiwa Castizm QD's - very nicely balanced set-up and will easily do what you're describing, although anything over 50-60 yards, I prefer to use my 12ft rods, e.g. my Free Spirit ES. The 10ft rods are much better suited to fishing shorter ranges.

Why so high in Tc for 90 yard?

Traction pro are very good rods for the price., I used my Ctx 1x and sold then, the new blanks aren't that good anymore

From Daiwa i have only experience with Cast'izm 10ft 3.00Cork (my current rods) i rate them higher the Fs E-class gold.

Hi All,

I know this has probably been done to death but I couldn't see too many comments on the following rods as they are quite new:

Traction Pro 10ft 3lb or 3.5 tc

Future Fishing (Diawa blank) 10ft 3.25 tc

Also the Freespirit CTX caught my eye.

Others considered too.

These were the main few I was looking at. Fishing up to about 90 yards max (most of the time it's 10 to 60 yards) with small PVA bags on the 2 lakes I fish.

I'm after a nice all rounder which has enough power but is nice for playing fish too.

Thanks guys!
