In reply to Post #43 Beavers are ecosystem engineers and create a landscape I want to live in and and enjoy. We need to fit our silly carp fishing around these forces of nature. This is serious now. If you gripe against beavers you gripe against ecology and you are a serious threat to the countryside.

In reply to Post #41 I have no idea regarding Beavers mate.
re released otter back when Phillip Ware was responsible i agree, but there were only 130. (Recorded)
NO one knew how many were already in the wild, and still to this day dont

In reply to Post #32 Couldn't agree more. Modern commercial carp fishery management consists entirely of interfering with nature.

In reply to Post #39 Frenzy, the progeny of those released Lutra are the consequence of, arent they ? if we apply that logic too Beavers, we can imagine a similar outcome ? especially if these re-wilders are involved as suspected.

In reply to Post #38 Totally agree
but the captive breeding program finished years ago and those otters will be a long time dead. Plus the numbers of otters bred and released were very low.

In reply to Post #32 Mal, i agree with you.....regulated conservation. I actually think there is a place for Otters.....they were in place, minding there own for a long time until these captive bred animals were systematically and uncontrolledly, released to what it is now.
Same for the Beaver, Im all for them so long as they are controlled and regulated.
And I also agree with you on the carp anglers point of view and how we meddle with fisheries to our own ends. Stripping out all other species to maximise weight gains or worse, coz anglers dont want to wake up at 2am for a tench.....
Like you say, a bit of balance.

In reply to Post #36 No worse than hitting a badger, like the ones that get accidentally hit round here. Normally after they shoot themselves 😂

Agree Beavers are going to become the next 'otter' but living in Kent I am waiting for the day I wake up on my local syndicate and one of these is outside my bivvy

In reply to Post #27 by way of a bit of balance / devil's advocate....
it could be seen as hypocritical complaining about 'messing with nature' and 'creating new lakes'....
or is creating a new lake for carp anglers and messing with nature through artificial breeding, stocking and feeding exempt from the argument?
btw - I'm in favour of regulated conservation rather than foolhardy renegades taking things into their own hands. sensible reintroduction of species that were driven out by mankind 'playing god' and messing up habitats is a positive in my book.
like i say - a bit of balance

In reply to Post #27 Kudos to your post,fantastic..
Couldn't have put it better myself..
Rewilders, like as said..play god, they do what they want..get what they want and care not one jot about the bigger picture..
I have met them, dealt with them, and it's the same mindset..
Do not trust them with there clever words, graphs etc, they all have their own private agenda, and it does not include anglers..
NB,like Ken mentioned, two released already, this info let go in mainstream media, nothing said about the other beavers,in the Tamar valley,...same thing,as the otter situation,it has many parallels,..
On a different genre,I have been fishing twice, and been very close to big cats..puma,or panther..I'm not that clued up....yet...!!...
Last year, and around 20 years ago, both on moorland,...and one my wife saw ,now I'm thinking about it...

In reply to Post #1 One of my old UK mates put me onto this podcast recently, agree it is a different and extremely interesting opportunity to explore Bait and some other topics in depth (e.g Moon Phases). Which has been sadly lacking in other carp podcast agendas recently.
Slowly working through your back catalogue, it’s great stuff, Good luck with it, lads.
Looking forward to some ‘dueling expert’ discussion on the value of Single Aminos in coming episodes, if you can set that up😁😁😁

Breeding pair released this month in Cornwall.
The effect they have on rivers does not impact us so much as coarse anglers, but salmon and sea trout anglers will be greatly affected by the destruction of wodlands, the building of dams and the accumulation of silt behind them. New small localised flood plains will be created and once dry land will become a mud bath.
Next it will be wolves followed by black sodding bear!
Not heard the podcast as I am not au fait with modern stuff like smart phones and apps!
(if anone can PM me a link that will play on my steam-driven PC I'd be grateful.)
I was a fervent user of Jay's baits back in the day and was proud to be asked by him to contribute to two or three of his books. What Jay don't know about bait and attraction ain't worth knowing. It's no coincidence that he worked as a product development guy at Nash for a few years.
We alkso share a love of the old Le Queroy mirror known as Triad. My missus caught it at 41lb in 2005-ish (first time over forty) and then she went up to the small lake where she was an infrequent visitor to the bank. Then Jay caught it at 51lb+ (IIRC). The great carp then becamse my obsession and I finally caught up with her at 65lb 4oz in 2017.

In reply to Post #26 Ive had this discussion a year or so ago. Beavers...."yea there great" and they are. I love em but.......
Once there protected, thats it. We, as anglers will see an impact on the enviroment quite quickly. They change the flow of rivers so down stream will be impacted negatively. As Wandle states, up stream, as the water backs up, that will seriously change the environment from flooding.
Its not just that impact. If they do receive protected status, we will then be stopped from accessing areas of river and as there protected, we wont be able to manage the dams they create. Remember, they dont just build one dam, they continually do so, taking over quite large areas of river, continually damming and we wont be able to access the area or intervene in their natural actions - the damming.
Beavers WILL change the nature of your area. Its what they do. Look at the over release of Otter's. A natural rise in numbers is more than manageable and sustainable. Mass release, well, we have all seen that impact.
Now think of Beavers, these rewilders will be releasing / re-location beaver far and wide......and weve seen what happens when these type of people are involved. They go way over the top, no consideration to anyone other than their own warped sense of re-colonization.
All these dammed river areas, creating small 'lakes' do you think the fish population will survive, trapped in smaller bodies of water when ol Lutra arrives.
We as Humans shouldnt tamper in nature, where the over all, long term impact of these releases arent fully understood. Blinkered logic, focusing on one goal without consideration to the whole environmental impact can only be a negative outcome.

In reply to Post #25 As far as I know mate, none what so ever..
It's the damage that they do ,and possible legislation surrounding moving them on,and the dams they build..
For a bad example...if they build a dam in a river, stream and it then changes the watercourses, floods the surrounding land, maybe bogging out the perimeter of a lake which is stream fed, which rendered the otter fencing useless,or heavy rain fall, making river etc back up,lots of damage potentials come from that..lots of variables..
So..last year found two people,on private land ,one of which huge influence,in rewilding beaver..
I asked them what they would do if the beaver damaged upstream ,and caused the lake to also be damaged,no answer, only we'll build a tunnel, problem is ,they not meant to be in our land, and we dont want,or ask for beaver..
I sent Sam a lot of pictures of the damage they do..
It was out of order for them to be on this private land anyway, very cheeky..but that's my perception of rewilders, they do what they want..

In reply to Post #20 Interested to know, what are the particular issues that a beaver population poses to carp?

In reply to Post #16 Beaver issue,...well I'll send some pics..otter problem mk 2 in the making, cept they dont kill the fish,..its the damage I have already seen..when or if they become protected, that's when our troubles will begin..three dams,in a one mile stretch,it should be discussed in the angling community..!
Three leads on,three leads spare,if you dont use it dont take it,remember lol
Wife sends her best, said youm a handsome young man wtf..lol..

Hi Adam. Hope you’re well mate.
I think I’ve spent most of my life looking like a homeless man! Even a small part of it being a homeless man.
I remember you looking through my battered old gear one time, then there’s you with your hand polished Trangia and perfectly organised tackle! I was always impressed with that. Keep trying to be like that but it never seems to go to plan!
Yep Pete does still have that old barrow! You’ll be pleased to hear he treats it well.
