It's generally down to the anti tangle properties.
There are other variables in the way you fish, baits and length.

Dependant on rig i like the slight stiffness between hookbait and lead that I get with coated braid. I always tend to strip off a section though to allow hookbait to sit and act more naturally.

what is naturally under water? a twig on the bottom is stiff, not soft for example.

Been thinking lately about why coated braid is used so much more now. I get anti tangle properties but surely a soft braid hook link behaves more naturally underwater??
