No, i've never really had many issues with snap offs when spodding apart from when i dabbled with whiplash, that was like cotton and needed very special care, windknots from hell!

What were you using? I use the 41lb X4 , I think it's about.29 and never had it break. It's really good stuff

Have you had any issues with the braid breaking at the lineclip??
I tried the j braid.
Cast great but one cast was just that bit harder, hit the clip harder and snapped!

I went across to J braid x8 'grand' a couple of years back, after my previous 10 year old power pro finally disintegrated and the J braid has been superb. I use it in a fairly slim dia (0.19mm) with a korda shock leader and had no issues at all with knot problems through the rings.
I did try a thicker diameter to remove the shockleader requirement but picked too higher BS and it was like towrope. Only tried one session and threw it in the bin. Just found it in my ebay history, it was 0.28mm (60lb BS).
There is probably a dia in between the two i've tried that would work well without a shockleader, but i just haven't bothered trying anymore.

Can get 1000m of dyneema or similar off eBay or Amazon for cheap. Choose your colour and breaking strain.
I never fish at long range but I use 30lb straight through. Never had a crack off.

13ft tackle box spot cfx black edition spod rod, you can add the extra heavy duty tip for really heavy spods but it's very heavy duty, not used this extra tip yet but I thought good value and handy to have.
Shamanic ultegra xsd 14000 , use this because I have a few of them and loads of spools for them,they are my river Trent reels.
22lb 0.16 jbraid 8x in green 270m, it's that thin it's difficult to see.
Korda armourcord leader 50lb floating not sinking, good value, easy to get hold of durable.
Gardner or Daiwa casting glove
Midi spomb dipped in lake full of 20mm boilies 140/150 maybe further but easy to use
Alien spod as recommended on here for 160, Effin nightmare to use at first and a real knack, end up with boilies all over swim and not easy to top up in lake without it emptying but persevere, some lads on here swear by them, so do I for distance, need water to compress this rod.
I wanted to top my swim up after bait boat in France, that's was my aim, got sorted on here.

Ted, could you share with us your set up for those sorts of distances please?
Reason I'm asking is I can get to around 130yds not too badly, maybe 140yds possibly, anything over that seems like a distinct dream.
What sort of rod have you for that? I'm asking all of this and you may well be a very capable caster and myself never ever be able to get such distances ever.
I was going to get a Harrison Trebuchet spod rod as this seems like a proper tool. I've ditched the large spomb and I'm now using the fox spomb which has given me some decent range, not too sure with a midi spomb as they don't hold enough and it's double the amount of casts that a large spomb would be. Any tips would be greatly appreciated 👍

I started a thread on here a few month ago something like spodding at 160yards
Took on board all the guys great advice on here and ended up with armercord 50lb leader and j braid x8 in about 24lb I think.
What a set up that is and I would just use this for all spodding short or long.
NO wind knots, frap ups or myther

I use power pro for the first 10 yards then mono after that

I used 50lb straight through. Got it off ebay, and can't remember the brand (If it was even branded)
Used to get tangles to start with, then reduced the amount of line so it was about 3 to 4 mm from the spool lip. As long as i wet it before casting, and keep tension on when winding in, i've not had an issue.
BTW, I'm using a mid size spomb, and probably only casting about 70 yards max.

Banana braid is good but being flat in profile it can catch the wind more than a round profile braid. That's the only reason I switched to. Fox braid with a 50b korda shockleader.

Carp spirit braid for me. Doesn't need wetting either. Been using it last 6 months, no issues with knotting unlike the whiplash previously.

Just ditched 30lb whiplash that breaks at 15lb for banana braid in 30lb which snaps at 24lb with a 50lb banana braid leader and it's much better.

Hey up Wac. No such thing as a wind knot, some idiot that made that up!
It knots up because you have slack spots on the spool from when you last reeled in, when you cast out the next time it picks up and gives you the tangle
I gave up with whiplash for tbese very reasons, put it down to the finer diameter, every time a spod or spomb pops.on the surface you will get slack, slow down winding in and it will relief the situation a little. Wind in through a towel and you will never get a "wind knot" again
I am back on a bigger diameter braid now for the very same reasons, Hoping it will lay better when wet on the spool

I usually only use the midi spomb as can cast this further than the large. I generally use 30lb whiplash straight through with no leader needed. However the latest batch of whiplash has been terrible for wind knots. Any suggestions for alternatives please?
