A spliced loop in leadcore can slip, happened to me just once and never trusted it again.
Also don't trust loop knots in mono mainline on a big chuck...

When I used to splice the leadcore and it failed I then spliced and superglued. This works fine, but I now do a no needle version of the needle knot. This leaves no bulky end and 100% reliable.

That sounds more like the splice in the leader pulled through.

Has anyone ever had a mono mainline cut through a braid leader or vis versa?
I lost a fish recently when the loop to loop connection between 40lb cling on leader failed. All I had left was a frayed leader end which makes me think the mono hook length cut through the braid.
I was gutted, it was a good fish.

Double over hand loop for me then loop to loop the leaders on, simple and extremely strong.

That's the one mate....spent years doing the needle knot until I started using this style.

Knot strength is exceptional.

that is all good but normally the knot that makes the loop is the weakest point... but still more than strong enough if you ask me...

With a loop to loop, the more times you go through the loop, the stronger it becomes. If your concerned, a single loop to loop isn't strong enough, loop through several times and test it, yourll be very surprised at how stong and neat it becomes.

Big game anglers do it this way for huge bill fish.

I don’t use lead core but a Willis knot seems a good knot
works on the esp stuff definitely , as I was thinking about using it at a
Local ressie
Thread the mono through the lead core after removing the lead and tie a single granny that’s it
Didn’t seem to work on other materials I tested
Whatever you use , really abuse it before fishing

I also do another loop knot about 1cm away from the end of the loop on the braid which leaves a little tag end that enables you to pull and change between lead and spod or what ever you need to attach really easily....

Loop system is quicker to change, but other than that, not a lot.

Is the loop to loop as strong as a normal knot (Palomar, Grinner, Bloodknot) for the connection with the leader?

For solid bag fishing on some of my waters I'm not so worried because carp's average size will be mid 20's.

But for fishing on weedy lake with hard fighting big carp I am always a bit scared of loop knots.

Can i ask the actual benefits of grinner/needle/loop system over polamar which i am using presently or is it just a preference thing?

spot on.

i use this method for all leaders.

same for my spod/marker rod, tie a large loop in the braid and loop to loop the spod or marker.
fast and easy.

Not sure what you mean - helisafe makes no difference

tie a figure 8 loop in mainline - Pass loop through small loop on end of leader - pass rest of leader (including helisafe) through the loop in mainline - pull tight. Simple as that.

for the record I use a 5 turn grinner

Unless i feel like redoing all my pre made leaders fitted with heli safe systems i can't use loop to loop system as you loop through mainline then leader for the knot. Heli safe system gets in the way no?

It's the loop om the mainline that is large enough to loop it on. The loops on te leadcore cab be as small as possible

Yeah loop to loop decent but as i fish my leaders with korda leader safe lead systems not really viable as 2nd loop on leader would have to be huge

I use loop to loops myself.

I have all my hooklinks set up with leads ready to be looped on.

also works very well with solid bags.

Just curious what most of you guys use. I use a palomar knot myself but a lot of people prefer a needle knot to leader.

Curious why that is as its no safer for dropping rigs and more effort to do?
