FWIW, I took delivery of a Korum 11ft 1.75 TC barbel rod yesterday, haven't used it yet obviously but after a close inspection and a wiggle it seems pretty decent for fifty quid. I'm going to use it for some smaller local rivers where a roving/1 rod approach is the order of the day so we'll see how we get on. A hook loop would have been nice but I can live without it.
Teaming it up with a Daiwa GS 4000 BR LT which I'm hoping will be about the right size.
They must bash these rods out in china for a tenner which is incredible if you think about it.

. . .I've just bought a pair of the cheapy Korum Barbel rods in 12ft 2lb tc . . .ordered from Johnson Ross and delivered the very next day!
Haven't used them in anger yet (still using old-skool silstar tench rods) but they are well made albeit a bit stiff / hefty!
Def more powerful than my handmade Greys 2.5lb tc (carp rods for surface / stalking etc) which are positively floppy in comparison. . .should be able to chuck big feeders with the Korums . . .and if they snap then no worries for the £!

I had the previous version of the Korum barbel rods (before they were updated for 2020).
I bought the 12' 2lb TC versions and used these for all the barbel fishing I did, from small intimate rivers right through to the Trent. They seemed to cope with pretty much everything I threw at them including fishing some of the larger rivers in flood.
Only weakness I experienced was a couple of bent rings, but they bent back into shape and were fine. To be honest for a £50 rod I couldn't complain about them.
Currently using Free Spirit Hi-S barbel rods that are simply delightful rods to use and play barbel on, but full up you're looking at £330 per rod. The Free Spirit Tamer range seem well spoken about over on the barbel forum.
I also bought a pair of the Tackle Box Darent Valley 11' 1.75lb rods for lighter work and can't really grumble at those for the cost of them too!

At the upper end of your budget, but take a look at the Fox X4 Barbel/Specialist rods. High spec pieces of kit that also double up for great surface rods for carp. K series style guides as standard as well.

The korum rods for £50 are incredible rods.
Drennan make great rods too for around £100 for an Avon style.

Afternoon folks,
I'm currently in the market for a pair of decent barbel/specialist rods. Now I'm drawn to free spirits Barbel tamers but I'm sure there's a rod out there that does exactly the same job but costs lest that £130. Was looking at 1.75lb tc, any help would be greatly appreciated.
