Thanks for the info lads, that is very re-assurring
This can happen with almost every bait. Krill meal varys in colour, robin red, SG60 , can all effect the bait but it’s still the same bait. Never worried about slight variations.
In reply to Post #85 They even say as much on their website...
Due to the seasonal changes in colour and texture of the many natural products used within the base mixes a slight variation in colour of the finished baits is to be expected at times. This is a normal process and beyond our control but has no detriment to the effectiveness of the bait.
In reply to Post #85 my frozen mc nut is deffo lighter in colour to my wafters which are almost brown in colour. Doesnt seem to be a problem for the fish though
In reply to Post #84 I can’t honestly say I have never noticed colour variations in anything from ABS or other leading manufacturers in the past when it comes to different batches of bait.
Very interesting point about nut/fish meals and eggs varying colour outcome. I’ve learnt something there
In reply to Post #83 The stuff in my freezer is, as you put it, cell coloured
You will always get slight variation in colour with fish and nut meals. Even eggs can affect lighter coloured baits.
In reply to Post #81 Should it vary in colour? One reason I pick and stick with a company and their bait is consistency!
In reply to Post #81 Usually is quite pale in my experience tho I have found some batches darker than others
In reply to Post #80 Very pale, in my opinion anyway. This was Cell coloured, website makes it look a deep brown colour?
In reply to Post #79 Different in what way Scott
Just received my order of MC Nut from ABS. I have to say it looks quite different to what I expected it would/should look like based on their website picture and also other peoples comments about the bait
I should also add, it was completely fresh and yet to be frozen, would the appearance change much once frozen and then air dried for use?
Cheers Lads

In reply to Post #76 Hahah. Very True

In reply to Post #69 I couldn't buy a take on that I bait one winter a few years back. fished on spots id done well on before. changed over to Blakes snowberry and caught well from then on. I couldn't pick up any smell from the I bait at all. No idea if something was amiss with my batch for some reason but I lost confidence with it.
In reply to Post #74 Yes. Not all gash smells better.
In reply to Post #69 They might say Scopex but it isn't if you get my drift
Any further thoughts?
In reply to Post #67 Really? Ive bought both direct from ABS in the past without being told theyre the same.
I bait is superb!

In reply to Post #70 Gash smells better
In reply to Post #69 I tried mc nut plus banana. Was total gash. Didn’t smell of anything.
In reply to Post #68 Isn’t the i-bait MC Nut with added Banana?
Scopex is the flavouring I thought of adding, if it is in there already then I’ll have to have a re think!
In reply to Post #65 I have used MC nut with banana and toasted sesame seed oil in the past works really well.
In reply to Post #66 MC nut has scopex in it already (Maple cream) is Maple and scopex
In reply to Post #65 Mc nut with scopex
Caught plenty on this
I’m reading more and more about people ‘tweaking’ this bait. Making it a custom mix. What are peoples thoughts on this?
I can imagine something like Scopex as an addition. Anybody else customise the MC Nut and if so, what with?
In reply to Post #63 👍🏻 Just want something a little different to the norm but still a good reliable bait.
In reply to Post #62 Yes definitely pokey smell. If you discuss what you are trying to achieve and where you are fishing they will tailor the bait to your requirements.
In reply to Post #61 Was the bait half decent in smell. I had a batch rolled last year plumb & banana and you could barely recognise the flavours. Very faint if any smell
In reply to Post #60 Tutti frutti worked for me. But it was not on a hard water. I just wanted something with a strong smell for cold water.
Anyone had any interesting custom flavour combos done on mc nut to much success
In reply to Post #54 Don't overlook the i bait mate 0
In reply to Post #56 Good stuff mate 👍🏻
In reply to Post #54 I have used it for years and it's caught straight away everywhere, never bothered having it tweaked and certainly never had any quality issues - got talking to the guy that delivered my last lot and he said it keeps on going and going - 2nd best seller behind Hydra K.
In reply to Post #51 Matty
Received mine and used it over weekend had 3 to 22.06
All good so far
In reply to Post #54 It’s quality. I know loads of guys that have used it on and off for years, especially when we were able to get it cheap as one of Geoff’s old employees is a member on one of our waters and used to deliver it direct to the lake each week. We are lucky enough to have freezers on site.
I’d happily use it without any hesitation. If you’ve been using ABS for a few years I’m sure you already know they don’t do a lot of duff stuff, and this baits been in the range for years, which says something I guess.
What I’ve always wondered Is whether ABS feel that the newer plan B/Ibait which is based on the nut mix are a great improvement on the std mix and whether they’d use them over the basic nut
So what is the general feeling towards this bait? I’m looking at something to possibly replace the cell. I’m not sure why or what it is but I feel the cell just isn’t the same as it used to be. I have been using other ABS baits for a good 5 Years with success but have never tried the MC Nut and feel this may be the best alternative to the cell....
In reply to Post #52 Normally you collect locally if you have someone who delivers in your area, but as s new customer you may pay different rates unless you buy bulk.
In reply to Post #35 So how do you get this bait that cheap? You’ve gone very quiet 👂
In reply to Post #50 Don’t think you’ll be disappointed mate, I’ve been really impressed by it. The dog goes crazy for it when I’ve got a couple in my pocket, sure that bears no relation to how carp view it, but figure it can’t be a bad sign!
The matching pellets are decent too.

In reply to Post #49 Got 5kg on the way 👍👍

In reply to Post #48 Cheers......
In reply to Post #47 Yes, but with a slightly tweaked flavour package - maple and scopex from memory.
It’s very good 👍🏻
Is Oxfords carp baits MC nut simply ABS repackaged......
In reply to Post #43 It has chocolate and yeast and was supposed to be good in cold water. I think 2tb is a further step on from the plan b. Not used the plan b but used the 2tb against rock lobster on a water which was not fishing well. The rock lobster came out on top, but it was in Autumn not winter. 2tb is supposed to be a good cold water bait. However the fish in my current lake seem to prefer fishmeal so I prefer Hydra K for cold water.
In reply to Post #43 It’s a while since I saw it but I think it had a sort of chocolate malt smell.
Edit: just had a look at the website and it’s a tweaked version of the nut mix.
In reply to Post #43 Same base mix different flavor package I think mate
In reply to Post #42 What’s plan B......any maple in it?
In reply to Post #41 I know a couple of good anglers on one of my water use the Plan B and do well on it. One did switch onto the I-bait but he didn’t notice any increase in his catch rate. So he went back into the plan b.
In reply to Post #40 Anyone on Plan B
A version of the mc nut 👍
In reply to Post #39 He doesn’t seem to be forthcoming with the info on the 10k £50. I’m guessing you have to buy a silly amount to get it for that so not very realistic to the everyday angler
In reply to Post #35 Bad storage, you put it in a freezer!
£50 for 10kgs would be nice but most of us pay more, assume you are part of the buy a 100kg plus and get it dropped of around the M25 brigade. If not please share.
I agree though it’s a top bait just inconsistent in my own experience
In reply to Post #36 Likewise!
In reply to Post #18 Oxford Carp baits. Joe's nut bait has caught lots of big fish 👍
In reply to Post #35 Andy
Please tell me where you get it £50 for 10kg
Cheers
Mark
In reply to Post #18 Bad storage? ABS MC is an awesome bait imo, hard to beat for a high attract bait.
At £50 for 10kg and such a great track record why would you pay more for a copy bait from another company?
In reply to Post #33 You are correct. the late Chris Haswell did his original nut mix.
In reply to Post #29 Andy littles original maple mix is avaialble again through hookbaits.com how true it is to the original who knows? I use their gear for my chub and barbel fishing and it's good stuff.
Didn't Chris Haswell do one of the early nut mixes also? The first nut mix I remember was Geoff bowers peanut bait. It used to be really popular in the colne Valley and caught loads of fish.
Victory Baits RPM Mix or Maple Creams. Very good baits that have been doing the business on many lakes down south.
In reply to Post #29 Yes he did use a proper Casein based bait initially, but due to the amount of bait he was using, to keep using the Casein was too costly, so he dropped the Casein for the cheaper Semolina. Still caught loads.
In reply to Post #29 Plenty of repeat captures though
In reply to Post #25 Lol. Wasn't he using 50/50 casein and semo and then ran out of casein so just used semo and caught loads on it? Shows you what we know about bait really. I guess the catches on it were fairly short lived though
In reply to Post #27 The late Alan Taylor had a nut based boilie out under Whacker Catcher Baits. This was around 1990. Caught quite a few on it but was a really soft bait. Moved onto Carp Company nut mix after that.
If memory serves me correctly, the nut ingredient was packaged separately from the base mix.
In reply to Post #25 That he caught all those thirties on....
In reply to Post #24 Andy’s 100% Semolina bait
In reply to Post #23 I’m pretty sure it was fairly crumbly with tiny pieces of crushed peanut in it, Based on the bait Andy Little used on Savay in 81, without the maple flavour and brown sugar.
In reply to Post #22 I would of thought and I will stand corrected. It would of been more than likely a peanut flavour on a fairly simple Soya Semo type base mix in line with most early readymade.
In reply to Post #1 I would have thought Crafty Catchers Peanut Pro was one of the first nut based baits, piggybacking of the back of the craze for peanuts in the early 80’s. Peanut meal and creamy peanut butter smell.
In reply to Post #16 Pretty sure Geoff Kemp had a nut mix in the mid 80's.

In reply to Post #7 I have been using MC from ABS for some time but am looking for an alternative but similar mix, not sure if TNM fits that bill or not?. I have never heard of them so could you confirm what/who so I can take a look please?
Been disappointed with the last couple of frozen batches of MC from ABS, inconsistent bollies, pop ups smell great at day one but not for long after when compared to others and the glug goes rancid far to quickly in my humble opinion.
Just my own experience
Thanks.

Richworth produced a Tiger Nut bait in the early 90’s. It was orange in colour. I used this alongside their Condensed Milk bait that was smashing Harefield at the time.
The first Nut type bait I remember was by Carp Company. Remember going round to one of the owners houses in Worcester park Surrey with a mate who was picking up some mixes and flavours of him. Remember being shown a freezer full of a coconut flavour nut mix for a campaign on Hairfield they were embarking on. This must of been early nineties.
Also remember Chris Haswell. Buttcracker, Carpbuster baits bringing out a nut bait around about the same time.
Never been a massive fan of nut baits but my MC Nut pop ups are catching well. I know a lot of DNA SLK and S7 is going in my syndicate so trying this is against the grain and will hopefully produce......
In reply to Post #1 The first nut baits I came across was when John Finch asked Mick Ball (MB Baits) to design / make some for linear complex. That had a peanut oil and a maple flavour in iirc and was way before Geoff mad a peanut bait. Mick and Geoff worked together for a bit and not long after Geoff bought out the nut mix as well.
In fact my mate had a 30 'Deano' out of orchard first time out with the original MB baits one i will try to get the year he had it. Edit (2003 - 2005iirc)
I remember when Bowers first launched his nut mix. It wasn’t maple cream though. It was actually a peanut flavour if I recall it correctly. It was catching loads in the Colne Valley. I ain’t one to jump on the “going bait”. But on a Colne Valley syndicate I was on, it was too hard to ignore the results others were having. So I ordered 20kg for spring summer and asked him to put a twist on it. He added Scopex for me. I had a great spring that year.
In reply to Post #10 I wouldn't know tbh, just repeating what I'd read. I only came into carp fishing in the early 2000s so its before my time tbh. I remember using the carp Co and dynamite ones in the early days but I don't think either were new then.
I found Icelandic reds worked better spring to autumn and richworth tutti was better in winter, I've only really played with the nut baits since richworth went tits up
In reply to Post #10 I’m sure lots were pal. It was the breakthrough that I found fascinating. If ABS claim the title that’s fine by me. I would have thought Dynamites tigernut one of the most successful and long standing nut based baits of all time? Happy to be wrong of course
In reply to Post #8 Pete Regan was doing a nut mix donkeys years ago.....still does in fact.
In reply to Post #8 Nice one mate, I’m a bit old school if I’m honest, love my fishmeals, no doubt about it though, they catch fish
In reply to Post #6 Carp company refer to their nut mix as the 1st available, not maple flavoured as standard tho.
I've found it a bit hit and miss tbh, done really well on some waters and been out done by mcnut/nutcracker(early version) on others
In reply to Post #6 Looks like ABS from what I can find.......going with the TNM though.......
In reply to Post #5 ABS, probably
I was thinking more about the “commercially” available nut mix?
In reply to Post #4 I’d say it was around before Dynamite existed as a commercial enterprise.
In reply to Post #2 Was ABS MC nut out before Dynamites tigernut? That’s been around for YEARs and caught a lot of fish?
In reply to Post #2 Cheers for that Darren......
Going to go with TNM from PB as I know it’s highly rated by lots of people and Joss so that will do for me......
In reply to Post #1 Everything is measured against ABS’s maple nut mix as theirs was the first breakthrough bait of the Nut fad.
With his vast bait knowledge and supply contacts, and rolling services, Reputation and supply, Mr Bowers can do both.
Also ABS supply many companies with variations of this recipe. Some companies are using more nutritional milk proteins and yeasts, to make a decent bait with no FLAA’s, but most I suspect are not nutritionally balanced like a good fishmeal.
But many nut baits have caught plenty regardless.
TBH for many people it is Personal preference, and ease of collection of fresh bait or a reliable delivery service is the key point for many customers.

Found a few maple nut baits on the internet but who is the original creator, is it GB? Is his still considered the best and if so why?
