In reply to Post #50 yeah but he was kept silent by the huge white oppressor who kept him Josef Fritzl style
In terms of funny - Sweep used to crack me up. especially when he got pissed off. Don't know what it was but it really amused me

In reply to Post #40 well... I'm a big fan of 'people falling over'
(as long as they don't get hurt of course)
As said already, Karl Pilkington makes me cry with laughter. Billy Connolly. James Acaster. Tom Allen.
(btw - I know you weren't really asking but I'm on a roll now)
Young Sheldon is good. Mel Brooks. Monty Python.
oh - and most of the stuff on the conspiracy theory thread....
edit - and my mate Patrick Monahan. Shameless plug for one of the nicest stand-ups on the circuit. Very funny and a genuine top bloke.

In reply to Post #41 I thought the same a while ago, surely they could make that crack
I remember John Major with his peas

I would love to see spitting image back on tv , it would be fantastic at the moment

In reply to Post #38 Let’s not talk about that **** Ant, the grandmas favourite, ****er
If it had been any other celebrity driving around pissed and behaving like him they would have crucified them, public and the press!

In reply to Post #37 I think Ant & Dec and Leigh Francis etc thought they'd better get in quick and say something in case it damages there careers, maybe they secretly think it's still funny?
Keith Lemon is always near the mark I don't know how he gets away with some of things he does, you could call it sexist and bullying?

In reply to Post #35 honestly scozza I've actually re-thought my view of Little Britain. I actually do think it's an attempt to subvert those stereotypes - just poorly executed (IMHO) - and the results are some small minded people just using the 'catchphrases' as a means to voice their own prejudice - be that race, sexuality, disability based etc.
I still don't find it funny, but comedy is like that.
Have either of the creators said anything about it? I know some others have come out to apologise for similar stereotyping etc. (Leigh Francis is an example). They are intelligent blokes so a statement from them would be really interesting to read.

In reply to Post #29 It was still in the version streamed by UKTV, so they pulled it. A swift edit and barely anyone would have noticed but what’s done is done.

In reply to Post #31 Its about the characters that they play, not what they say or do
Look at the characters, Can you see the Vicky Pollard, can you see the attention seeking gay man, Can you see the receptionist with the bad attitude? i can
Like a bloke once said to me, after prancing about and acting like a fairy. I am gay you know. My reply, so ****ing what, just get on with it. Be whatever he wants to be for me as long as he does not bother me

In reply to Post #32 fair enough tinhead
it does feel like a lot at once but that's likely because lots of different areas - TV, sport, town councils etc. are all seeing things that are part of the bigger picture and all acting at once.
with the shoe on the other foot, imagine how all of those 'little' things on a daily basis might make one feel ...
maybe for the other thread in terms of discussion?
have a good day man

In reply to Post #31 My biggest worry is removing of tv shows will not have the desired effect it will actually make things worse.
There may be some opinionated people on here that will discuss it but if you want to influence Joe Average on the street don't go trying to remove everything in one week you'll just piss them off.
Rome wasn't built in a day.

there IS a bigger picture here... (no pun intended). if a tv show is the biggest worry you've got then you're not doing too bad are you?
if you want to watch little britain then buy the box set. see - easy
still don't get why anyone would want to though....
now Karl Pilkington - he's funny!

In reply to Post #27 Major Gowen was written as an old school racist, that's the point, anyway, didn't they edit that bit out years ago anyway?
The BBC's cutting of racial insults from a repeat of The Germans has brought the integrity of the hit comedy show into question. But the words are clearly used to satirise English upper-class bigotry - Mark Lawson 2013
EDIT: @nine0six just seen your post #20, that'll teach me not to read the thread

Be nothing left to watch at this rate, Just delete anything made before this week and start again that should do it.

In reply to Post #24 They've been ****ing with it for years, for the same reason as they have now, the Major's racist cricket rant.
Nothing to do with the Germans.

In reply to Post #17 Me too, brilliant. I have the box set and films so not really bothered if they take them down now. Absolutely brilliant series
Love Mr Gilbert, proper *******

In reply to Post #20 I said it earlier when they repeat Porridge there is a warning saying that some of the language used was of a different era.
I think that's fair for some programmes but some are obviously too OTT
|
|
|
In reply to Post #19 Like the poor reporting of the removal of Fawlty Towers. Hinting it is the ‘don’t mention the war’ stuff when it is far more likely the racial epithets used by the Major earlier in the same episode that are the issue. Yes, like Alf Garnett and that Pub Landlord character, it was written to lampoon their stupid, racist views but ended up unintentionally catering for both sides who found it funny for different reasons. Tricky thing, satire.
Still, it’s not like we haven’t already had to have a good look at a lot of the TV from the 70’s for one kind of inappropriate content or another. More new content, fewer repeats.

A story based on two anonymous tweets Let's hope that's all it is, fake news. The media has a lot to answer for sometimes.
BTW I thought the Christmas show was quite good.

In reply to Post #13 A story based on two anonymous tweets. No word from anyone who is in a position to do anything about the show. Mind you, that Christmas episode was awful.
Edit. Bob, whatever channel four call their streaming service has The Inbetweeners. Kinda free, you’ve paid a bit through your license fee and a the rest from supporting the advertisers.
|
|
|
In reply to Post #16 I can and do watch The Inbetweeners endlessly. Won't be subscribing to BritBox though and pay for repeats

In reply to Post #14 from what I understand, inbetweeners is being removed from some streaming services - like a few other shows - due to copyright issues because the BBC / ITV etc want you to now pay for them on Britbox rather than get them for free on iplayer / youtube etc.
come fly with me I think is the same as the blackface stuff in little britain - or maybe because it's equally ****... ?

In reply to Post #13 Ridiculous

My lad was saying before that Inbetweeners and come fly with me are being removed also
Yer right the worlds going mad, Belike channel 4 all them years ago when they put a Red triangle in corner to warn you that it had bad language or a nude scene in it. Best thing about it it was when you seen the warning in the TV guide it made you watch it

I do hope they can't be serious

If this carries on they'll be a backlash and will not help BLM.

In reply to Post #9 Never actually seen Little Britain will have to source a video and see what all the hype is about.

Call me Bubbles darling, everybody does.

To be honest I was expecting more replies on this. I know people like Little Britain because we all used to laugh about it on here, the series finished in 2007 with one offs in 2009, 2015, 2016, and 2020.
I find it hard to believe that's it's only me and Scozza that still like it so have come to the conclusion that although some peoples tastes may have changed there must be still be a sizeable amount of people who simply feel uneasy to say so.

I think both are bloody awful and an offence to comedy!

In reply to Post #2 Don't get all PC on me Mal they still broadcast Porridge but with a warning to viewers that the language being used was representative of its time.
Mrs Browns Boys is crap for no other reason than it's crap.
Edit
Ban all swearing on tv as it offends my Aunt Eddy
