I've never really needed a gaming laptop, since I do gambling at most.

here's a good site: https://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/ct/laptops-and-netbooks/laptops/gaming

the Asus TUF range are good, I have a 10 year old son too and thinking about getting this (a special 'one off' expensive present!), decent spec, for £600 isn't bad with the type of graphics card that's decent.

I would definitely agree with some of the other comments.
Gaming spec Laptops/PC's have to be powerful with expensive graphics cards etc. and so will be expensive.
You should definitely talk your son round (as I did mine) in to having an Xbox One, PlayStation or Nintendo Switch etc. as they are better value for money in my opinion.

Chillblast are good, that's the place we got lads other year. I had no idea and phoned them up and they recommend one
Asked a lad a work to check spec out and he priced all the stuff up and came back to me saying I couldn't build it cheaper and that it was high spec at the time
We added some extras like lights inside and better spec processor ( think that was it)

Worth a look maybe

Lads was a pc not laptop

Kingster has the right idea with gaming laptops. You're not really going to get one for less than £1K that is even remotely future proof.

PlayStation 4 is a much cheaper option and has lots of great games on it and some that are exclusive. Xbox one is a good console but lacks the titles in comparison to pc or playstation.

I would ask him what games he wants to play, then you/others might be in a better place to help with either PC specs or a console

Would he not be better with an Xbox or PlayStation ?
Or can you only buy games for the laptop?

Anything with gaming will need top specs to play the latest games. Have a google around but don`t just buy anything as you may end up buying a laptop that won`t play the games he wants to play. Your looking at something like this if he wants to play the latest games and in the future https://www.scan.co.uk/products/173-asus-tuf-gaming-fx705du-au035t-fhd-ryzen-7-3750h-16gb-ddr4-256gb-nvme-ssdplus1tb-hdd-6gb-gtx-166?gclid=Cj0KCQjwho7rBRDxARIsAJ5nhFo5v120rq-ELKLjXm8Zp6IgrOHijybD-GpKlC30zQ1FgRvz2CoEgrkaAmo1EALw_wcB
