Toronto Harbour - Never caught here but it's a great rod shot :D

St Lawrence River - Island in the middle of the river near Brockville owned by a family friend. Emptied a bucket of bait in the water off the rod tips & watched it get washed away within seconds - spent 2 days fishing singles.

Rouge River - Local river where the carp group up before spawning in the spring. Red sky color was due to wildfires in the north of the province. The fish are in here for a period of 6-8 weeks before migrating off elsewhere.

Lake Ontario - Toronto Park. Created the swim myself & had some of the best fishing I have ever experienced during the first year whilst using TCarpers garlic hemp method. Spot blew after 4 months & only did small fish since.

Apologies for the boring question, but can I ask what size bank sticks you have at the front and how high they are extended, what size on the rear and the distance between front and back sticks?

Looking to get a pod made up that can fish tips high when needed, I know yours it is a Frankenpod but the geometry looks just about right.

TIA

Only 2 pegs were free on Wednesday when I arrived. Bit surprised midweek.

Target both, typically set up a couple of carp rods and another on pellet for the cats.

Didn't have them very long the bail arms used to pop out of the plastic housing all the time on mine or the little plastic square washer on the reel handle screws would give up after no time and the handles would wobble.

But Dave got the reels spot on (1 point) and Darren got the alarms (1 point), they can have half a point each for the pod, it was Gardner but I cant remember if it was the Shadow or Panther I liked the buzz bar brass locking nuts to extend them, from memory Bitech made a limited amount of the clear cased Vipers it was either 100 sets or 500 sets cant remember now.

You can go for venue and bobbins and maybe redeem yourself

Throwing it back a bit so sorry for the scanned image, Circa 95/96 season here you go Vossy you can have a point if you can name the alarms another for the reels and a third for the pod.

Like it going to fail so badly I'll blame the picture quality

Reels, maybe biomaster, pod no idea, Sundridge maybe, alarms...really hard to see, look quite square, maybe a optonic or early Neville, but that dome looks like a early micron.
Going to fail soo badly!

Love these shots, have a really old feel to them. The kind that really makes you want to get out on the bank. I find the modern style of photography, bright, over saturated, looks lovely, but just doesn't evoke that fire within like the older shots used to.

@carpstar40, great shots, no fishing scenes etched on your kettle, loses a point for that only joking
Undecided on your handles, at least they're not folded..that would have been a point off, but they are all in the same position, 1/2 point off maybe...hmm

Shortly after this 1 kept pecking the bobbin, alarm would bleep, startle it, it'd run off a bit then return repeat.

Love kingfisher a flash of Azure and orange low over the lake is the normal view. If you get a close up it's special. I've seen one catchng fish up close a few times. I'm a fisherman who goes fishing for more than just catching fish. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I was recommended to put this here.

This little fellow visited me every day for four days and perched on the rods.

How do you put pics on here
pics need to be on a hosting site and then a link to this forum.
an easy way is make yourself a secret group etc on facebook, post pic there, and then copy image location

I can see you take your inspiration from Mr Shelley when it comes to rod support Martin. Although he does normally squeeze a 5th in.

couple from today
this was shorts and tee shirt weather about 2pm

this was a couple of hrs later after the wind turned about 160 degrees

Gave it up as a bad job although from 3 am we could have had some more snow shots
coupled with a bad back and reversing over a cadac safari chef to keep the roadway clear for the abundance of other anglers !!!!!!

Here’s one from me a couple of weeks ago... half the lake had frozen overnight.

Not been carp fishing since getting back from France end of October and am sat here glugging all my left over bait for the year before it goes in the freezer & watching a bit of YouTube like a proper nuffy, so here's another...

Not amazing but was sat there with a beer, some nice pate and smoked duck - perfect! Always brings a smile - what it's all about.

There were huge beds of it on the wandle, but it seems to have calmed down in the last couple of years.
I think because of the flood risk to a very built up area the ea have to keep it in check, plus lots of anglers clearing swims regularly has stopped it getting as dense as it was.
Trouble is, any cuttings left to flow down the river will get stuck somewhere and take hold until the whole river is infested.

On the plus side, it seemed to create a bumper year or two for the roach population, and the cormorant population looks lower in the last couple of years

I tried to do a time lapse video a couple of years back to show how fast it grew but someone nicked the camera

Just seen how bad it’s got on the Colne, after reading up on it more, after reading this thread. It really is bloody awful stuff isn’t it?
I don’t ever remember it being that bad before?
So, obviously the authorities are trying to deal with it?

The rivers and waterways, used to be ticking along nicely, a good stock of mostly healthy fish, and other bird and wildlife.
Now the otters have, or are, decimating all the fish, and much of the birdlife, and protected voles and other protected species. Then there’s the ongoing problem, with certain nationalities, stealing or hunting our coarse fish for the table, despite for a long time now, being aware that it’s illegal to do so?

Then if there are any decent stretches left, that hold enough stock, to make it viable for an angler to fish, he or she, could well find that it’s covered in Pennywort?
It’s a nightmare for anglers, especially boat anglers, and also a concern for boat traffic. I would also imagine, this stuff has a detrimental effect on various types of wildlife, as it leaves nesting animals with no security?

All these problems are real, and they’re going on as we speak, yet whenever the EA or other authorities are alerted to these and other issuses, they usually reply that they have neither the funds or manpower to deal with such things. Obviously this makes it hard for anglers to accept, especially when we’re paying in licence, and other fees, to try and safeguard our fishing??

So, as usual, it’s all about the money, or lack of it, and so to rub a lot of salt into a big wound, they decide to smack a railway right through the country, ruining lots of lakes, rivers, canals and beautiful countryside, which is costing billions, and was already well over budget by time it had started???

It will absolutely slaughter parts of the Colne Valley, including the most beautiful spots, that were otherwise ubspoilt for years, and also many, many other pretty, and up until now, protected parts of our little country. And for what? Just so people can get too, and from London and Birmingham fifteen minutes quicker???
Or, is it because we’re way over crowded, and they believe people will ditch their cars and take the train?

It’s no good to me, or my job, there are no stops, it’s just London to Birmingham and vice versa. Where does the money come from China?

Surely, these kind of things should be voted on?

Anyway, it’s all getting ruined and quite quickly round here

Dean, Nick and Roman, I’ve been to Cambridge, Peterborough, and The Fens etc, quite a bit years ago, as i had some family there at one time, and done a bit of fishing, including the Fens.
It’s been a while but, i always remember it being a really beautiful and unique place. Is it still like that, or have they ruined it too?

I remember when i first saw the Fens, it freaked me out a bit, all the vast amount of (flat) land and surroundings. I found it a bit spooky but, was drawn to it, if that makes sense?
I caught my first ever Zander there, and often, some nice pike.
I hope it’s as unspoilt as i remember it, apart from the ****ty Pennywort?

Not this stuff unfortunately. It'll keep growing (up to 20cm a day) unimpeded. Removing it does help but it can regrow from a tiny fragment.

She said ,cheeky begger
Not as atmospheric as some the great pictures below , but to get an idea of the size of these barges , this one was 70/80 yards long , and I reckon the load was the equivalent to 25+ lorry loads .

Haha! Yeah i had my first proper carp landing net made, one of the blokes i worked with, who themselves were very hardcore. I could definitely write a book about my time with those two, anyway, one of them got my net made. He brought it into work, and i started laughing when i saw it. I wasn't laughing when he told me how much i owed the bloke though!

Hardcore, you know the score

First ever carp angler I came across was fishing a very large expanse of water at the time. Thought he was a tramp at first, his bivvy was a sheet of tarpaulin tied to a fence, we **** ourselves when he crawled out

Nothing but respect from a fishing perspective for those who were in at the start, pioneers of this fantastic pastime

Remember seeing my first large landing net WTF - shark

In the 80's i was doing a bit on a 50 acre pit, and there was a guy on there that was very hardcore, without even realising it.
He was very unorthodox to say the least, a real fascinating bloke, very secretive but, never interfered in anybody's fishing. One October afternoon i was having a look round, and saw something in almost the middle of the lake? I eventually got the bins out, and saw it was somebody swimming? As i walked along the bank, this bloke was swimming back towards the bank. As he got closer, i could see he had water wings on!

I walked a bit further, and got to a swim, and nobody around but a couple of rods in the reeds, and bit of kit.
Next thing this guy appears on the bank, with trunks and water wings, a catapult and a net. It was the hardcore bloke, i won't say his name, as he won't thank me for it, if he's reading this. Anyway, he wasn't by admission much of a caster.
So, he used to swim out with his rigs, drop them, then get the net bag which held his bait, and with the help of the wings to keep bouyant, would bait up. If he was near weed, he would get clear, and use the catapult.

So really, he was acting like a human bait boat, or it was the poor mans equivelant, or rowing out your baits
Braver man than me, swimming into the middle of a big pit, just before dark, in October!
I got to know him well, he did some crazy things, he had a few out of that water though. Not many did

This pic was taken while i was fishing the "bar swim" on Longfield (fox pool ) i was minding my own buiseness , when two anglers" Ian Booker" and" Nod"(never did know his real name ) came swimming through my swim after a afternoon session in the Feathers in wraysbury , Ian can be seen in the water about 30yds out he was diving down to try to find a spot where fish had been caught on in the past and thats Nod casting to it with my rod , who was i to stop two drunk legends helping me out ...photo must have been taken around 1988/9 ..
Note the cardinal 55 reel

Looks like the logs to me, to be fair though, at that time of year the logs and the reeds look similar.
One year, our rota had the first week, there were a good few down, i got a bad draw, second from last. Earlier when walking around, i saw a few fish in front of the Gravelly, the Logs and the Reeds. Also a few in front of the Roach.

Didn't see much in the North bay though, they were along the canal, and round into the channel.

So, the canal is sewn up apart from the Logs, and Reagans is left in the North bay. Bit of a dilema, as when fish showed in the North bay, often they weren't having it, and when you didn't see them, some said that was the time to fish it. Certainly was always like that for me.

So, Logs where i'd seen some but, a lot of lines out, or a nice quiet one in the North bay? I took the Logs, and i think it was Nigel Bryant who was last, and went in Reagans. Oh well, the social looked promising.
I was actually first off the mark with a 15lb stocky, a Savay carp is a Savay carp right?

Hour later, i'm away again, 9lb common, well at least the bait was good Bruce Ashby iin the Roach, he's off the mark with a 28lb mirror. Then i think Magoo Roger Hawkins has an upper twenty, somebody, might have been Mark Lawson has a 30 out of the Sluices.

I have another, 15lb mirror, i'm secretly getting a bit worried now. Over the next few days, Bruce is canning the Roach, think he'd had severn now? I'm having a cup of tea, left rod close in is away, this feels better, it was, an 18lb common

To make matters worse, in the morning, i walk back to the car park, Nigel in Reagans has had a 31 and a 27, you should of gone in here he says

That same afternoon, i had another chance, this was definitley more like it, not wishful thinking, this was a more "usual" Savay carp. I saw it roll a couple of rod lengths out, lovely i'm thinking to myself, when the lead flew over my shoulder.
I was properly pissed off now, and as there were a few swims vacant, i was going to move for my last three nights but, there were still fish showing in front of me. So i decided one more night.

Four in the morning, and i'm away again, 11lb common. I rarely get the hump when fishing, especially at Savay but, i was so fed up. Maybe if i'd never fished it before, or i'd never caught from there before, it wouldn't have been so bad? But, i'd had enough, a couple of hours later i packed up. I think it was Pete, or John Harry, said i don't think anybody's ever done that before here, five carp out, all under 20? Thing is, later in the season i repeated it, i was in Maylins, and i think i had 8 fish in two days, all under 20?

What was weird was in between these two sessions, i'd had bigger fish, and i wasn't the only one using this particular bait? It, luckily never happened again, well i never caught another under 20.

So, although, i liked the Logs, it was unkind to me that week.

Go ahead, I think you're allowed off topic in this thread, just don't mention parking in disabled bays, speeding or rule breakers

My personal best moment in fishing is catching a 26lb mirror from The Gravelly in 89 aged 16 on a day ticket

No prizes for guessing this swim!

Think your right secret. The bush to the right is the old little bonfire swim I reckon, which became swallowed up by the reeds swim.To your left would be the gravelly.
I was fishing the gravelly one winter and noticed literally two bubbles appear in the logs next door.
I caught a few from that spot over the following winter thanks to that single clue.😎

Very hit and miss with the bass mate, if they're about, you can usually nick one or two on spinners etc.
Around about this time of year, they're often fairly close in. We normally do ok, amongst the rocks etc, a couple of years ago, we were weaving spinners and lures through rocky areas, and did well.

I found evenings good, or very early morning, a bit like carp fishing. Often if i'm away, i might take a couple of light carp rods etc, and use one for bass spinning. You can have them further out with a beach caster etc.

One thing i would say, use a proper salt water reel, or a cheapy freshwater reel, as i've buggered a few using them in the brine
