Somebody earlier posted a frightfully long list of taxes / duties already payable by many of us. In two years or less ( its already been brought forward to 2028 from 2029 ) there will be another to add to that list. This is the import duty payable on low value items from the likes of Temu, Aliexpress, Shein etc. The EU has already implemented their version, whereby each item within an order which falls into a different category / product code incurs a separate 3 Euro import duty fee. It's even possible that various items of terminal tackle made from different materials ie steel, rubber, plastic, silicone, tungsten etc could have their own codes and duty on each item. So you could order 10 different items and incur 10 separate import duty fees which could exceed the actual cost of your initial order. Fill your boots lads while you can, cos the bubble is gonna burst

In reply to Post #93 As my old man found to his horror, a lot of their stuff is also drop shipped. His spanking new gazebo came with Chinese labels....and the feet missing. Took him nearly a month to put it up once all items were in his hands.
This is the problem. We have come to the point where companies are now finding it's easier and cheaper to allow the manufacturer to send direct. Those claiming to be "manufacturers" are merely drop shipping themselves.
A few have found out the hard way that when you just point at an item at a catalogue whilst visiting Pudong on a business trip, your customers get a bit peeved when they realise the company you bought from hard zero input into the design and distribution.

B&Q yes but only for their online products, not everything they sell.
B&Q operates an online Marketplace where thousands of products are sold by third-party verified sellers. When you order one of these items, the third-party seller ships it directly to you rather than B&Q stocking and dispatching it themselves.
And the warranty is with the seller not B&Q just be careful that you get a manufacturerās warranty from them that way your covered, if the seller goes bust

In reply to Post #80 Itās quite big on eBay now as well
There was a couple of products listed quite near to me and I asked if it was held in the local depot so I could go and pick it up as it was quite an urgent requirement to finish a job I was on and couldnāt be sourced even more local
They did to be fair say they didnāt hold it in stock and said it would be shipped from the manufacturer.

In reply to Post #89 I agree. He's definitely not sending them out.
All he's doing is posting link so people can find items quickly and easily.

In reply to Post #80 This drop shipping is news to me.
I saw this post on Craig's fb timeliness, and not sure about it.
The guy claims that Craig is sending the products out, but I'm sure it must be coming from Temu direct.
Also, the guy seems to be a rather keen promoter!
Maybe on the next level discount list, whats next, Temu sponsored anglers š«£
Thanks Craig Mitchell for sending me out the terminal tackle just in time for France š«š· all looks and feels great mate.
Time to get amongst them. Keep your eyes š peeled for feedback on the products to put the haters to bed.
Guys visit WWW.nocarptax.com and take a look at the great website Craig has put together for you to make your angling affordable and miss out the middleman.

Iām surprised that no one has mentioned the recent(ish) predominance of Drop Shipping.
For those who donāt know this is the practice of setting up a business in your house supplying all manner of goods - but the seller holds no stock and is probably working from his mums spare bedroom.
The āsellerā advertises stock he doesnāt have. So for example in this case x amount of hooks for X price. On places like eBay it is attractive because he has a UK trading address. So you buy from this āUK sellerā at his price and he then buys the item off Ali Express, Temu etc, gives your address for delivery and buys the item from said Chinese website, who then use the Chinese Governments discounted free postage and VAT exemption and they are posted direct to you. So after a delayed postage you receive your item with Chinese characters on the envelope straight from the Chinese factory.
So in effect you have bought direct from China, thinking you have bought from a UK seller and he has charged you a markup for a few minutes of his time. He never had the stock I the first place, the fast postage never occurred and you could have saved money by just going onto the Chinese website yourself.
This is very common in the Asian community. This is just an observation not a racist or political statement. Places like Cannock and Birmingham addresses feature heavily in these businesses. Just check out some of the business names to get an idea of their origin. In every suburban estate are back bedrooms with these businesses making money from nothingā¦ā¦and itās growing.

In reply to Post #75 You're not a looney.
Agree with most of that mate and not at all offended by what you've written, I enjoy hearing other people's views on things š
The 3rd to last paragraph doesn't ring true with me though. That's a completely different problem. The reason there are fewer and fewer putting into the pot is because (more than ever if you look at the stats) the government want a welfare state. The young'uns (and older dossers) claiming PIP through anxiety etc. can't possibly go into Starbucks to do their shift, let alone a proper job in manufacturing, finance or tech. All the time they are given handouts, why would they work?
Crumbs from the master's table, here you go peasants, here's your money this week, do as government says. 15min cities, tax you by the mile for driving, etc. Control control control.
Talking of business, if government were to be a business they would be bankrupt every week. They have no idea about efficiency or doing things right, and why would they bother, they just raise taxes and we pay for their stupidity.
This goes straight to a single example (6m 30s) of how taxing the rich doesn't work (I'm not rich by the way). The whole podcast is worth watching in my opinion.

@JeffE - That's a shame, they were a decent shop, not that I ever visited but I bought online from them quite a few times over the years.
The reason these shops will be folding will have far more to do with big players coming into the scene - Angling Direct a few years back (although they never have anything in stock when I've looked) and more recently Total Fishing Tackle (didn't they turn over £18million last year?). How can the smaller shops compete?
And with regards to the main manufacturers suffering, some of it is self-inflicted to a degree with their levels of support. Let me just say that Korda have been excellent in this regard, it's rare I ever need to moan about tackle failing, but there have been a couple of things I've needed to email about last year and their replies were fast and very satisfactory.

In reply to Post #75 On the subject of tackle shops closing, Poingdestre's is the latest to go.

In reply to Post #74 I absolutely get Iām in a minority - and only speak from personal opinion, but I really think the more this happens the nearer the end is.
If anyone wants to buy from Temu, AliExpress or anywhere and find some decent prices then no problem for me. When itās started to be promoted and seen as an industry shake up, thatās where I just canāt get my head round it.
Decent, family run Tackle shops are at risk, they simply wonāt be able to survive if a large percentage start to buy other counterfeit or direct products - this is such short term thinking.
My closest tackle shop is now a 30 min drive, here used to be 5 within 10 mins. Listen to Ricci from FishOn in the Korda podcast regards the value of a local tackle shop and the knowledge and growth that these breed.
If itās just some beads, swivels and aligners, I get it, and people going direct rather than a Bank tackle is not much different. The reseller in the UK never did any of the hard yards so they pretty much get what they deserve. But letās look at some of the real dangers -
The spomb, developed in the UK and revolutionised spodding -thousands paid to protect copyright- thousands paid in development- but the market was flooded with very good copies at under the tackle shop TRADE price. Meaning the shops would be better off ordering from Temu than the UK? The knock on is that development stops, why would anyone invest thousands into the longer term when the end result is pretty much guaranteed?
Itās not just fishing, obviously, but given the other threats how long will it survive without retail and jobs in the uk market underpinning it - how long will companies that innovate last?
In its basic form just look at Korda - a company that for years and years has not just innovated but accepted that they wonāt just copy the stuff thatās out there, if they canāt significantly improve something they donāt do it. Delkims, Reels, shelters, bait (I know ml connection) and such like - compare that to OMC who have managed to launch the full Far Eastern suite in a couple of years. Temu and the like (and the promotion of) will immediately hurt companies like OMC, but the knock on will be that the proper companies just stop ploughing money into innovation, development and eventually even squeeze retailer margins.
Times are hard and I donāt expect anyone to pay Ā£6 for something they can get for Ā£2 - but like so many these these days spare a thought for the consequences- donāt moan when your local shop closes or Angling Direct buys them to buy copies from the Far East. Donāt look back in 20 years and say why is there not UK industry pressure to rally behind fishing when the going gets tough.
The single biggest issue now is āstop the boatsā people saying, come over here, Nick our jobs, increase our tax etc. etc. - and see absolutely no correlation with the death of uk manufacturing, the death of our high streets etc. if we were a successful country weād probably welcome all comers t do the work we need to do - now there are fewer and fewer of us putting into the pot because bit by bit businesses, manufacturing and innovation has gone. Everyone will say ābut fox, Nash, Kordaā use the Far East anyway, yes they do, but with proper overheads, paying UK and supporting our shops.
Like Iāve said before this is an issue caused by a few brands, that are just releasing absolute crap - see that for what it is and make your choice, but look at this counterfeit āspombā or helisafe or krank hook comes at a price further down the line.
This isnāt a pop at you or anyone, I just get frustrated that we no longer see value only price and I will try not to post on this thread again as I am coming across as a lunatic š

In reply to Post #73 From the looks of things, there are some users who would NOT like TEMU being linked to...however, there's also been a few who've asked me to start a section!
After all, we've been sharing TEMU & AliExpress links / suggestions on the site for years.
I've personally been getting bits off BangGood for years (BangGood was around for at least a decade before TEMU took over the scene)
Little bits for computing, photography, woodworking, shooting, fishing etc

I wasn't aware there was so much tackle on Temu.
I have no problem buying it but I will avoid nocarptax.com
Why don't we create a thread on here with links

In reply to Post #71 Whilst I agreed with the early iteration of no carp tax, itās becoming a bit ridiculous now.
Why I agreed at the start
- brands popping up, ordering stuff from China, 0 r&d costs and sticking their prices in line with existing brands
- brands outsourcing to China, you get what you wish for. It was obvious China would just create more
- brands spending how many thousands sponsoring complete tools? Charging everyone else way more to subsidise these take out merchants
- it was all tried & tested gear that Craig or close friends had used.
Why Iām starting to raise an eyebrow.
- hundreds of new links, camping gear ect, has he really actually tried all of this stuff?
- starting to look like itās purely a play to get affiliate commission rather than a movement to help people
- this has a bit of a personal element to Ali to it now. I think Ali is a complete tool, but, do I want to see someone take pleasure if he goes out of business? Absolutely not. Knock on effect to family ect.

And no I don't know or care about the guy but anyone on here that thinks he is wrong about manufacturers ripping anglers off is delusional in my humble opinion
Humble is doing a lot of heavy lifting in your post. Itās actual meaning is ādescribes a person who does not think they are better than others, or a thing that is simple and plainā
Manufacturers ripping off anglers is neither simple or plain. Maybe one could look at OMC and say that they are ripping people off my just picking up any old catalogue standard Far Eastern product and trebling the price. But to tar the industry with that brush, is not just delusional but child like intelligence.
An iPhone doesnāt cost Ā£1k to make, it could be copied and sold for less than Ā£50 - but Apple protect their patentās. A Volvo isnāt worth say Ā£20k when it may only cost Ā£2k to produce we are not being ripped off by āallā we are paying market price, for development, innovation, design, marketing, sales and in some instances the promotion of the sport we love.
Sweeping statements and having no commercial acumen is dangerous - I doubt there is a single product that Korda sell that didnāt start itās life with a minus Ā£x thousand regards development, so supporting a corrupt regime in counterfeiting and stealing a margin for yourself, to me is so so wrong.
I applaud anyone who is prepared to look into motivations of people who claim to be āshaking up the industryā and hope many people can see this for what it really is. If the point of this was to highlight blue tooth bivvy lights, park benches and smoothie grinders then it may have deserved traction, when it lands like it has with you that counterfeiting is the way forward - weāll all in end up in Turkish made stone island, itchy aquascutum scarves and rubber Birkenstocks.
Carp tax only exists within a few companies and is not (for me) anything to do with the margin of a UK developed spomb.

In reply to Post #69 It was no effort at all once you know Craig Carden's real name. He was a member on here years ago, complete pleb then and he hasn't changed much.
Why is he pretending to be Craig Mitchell, leave the Mitchell surname out of it, there's no need to associate it with his crimes, because that's what they are, crimes.
No, I'm nothing to do with tackle industry (not that that is any of your business) and don't try to pretend what he's done in his past is irrelevant. He's a scammer, more on that in a moment.
Who cares what he's doing with TEMU. If he feels the need to bolster his normal wage as a toilet fitter with some TEMU commission, great! £6 for a sign up and 30% on first order - lovely, can't wait to see that get pumped back into carp fishing by our new found Robin Hood!
Back to the most important finding, the fact he's a scammer.
Do you really think someone that organises a Spanish fishing trip for a Father and son, and then ghosts them once they land in Barcelona is trustworthy?
If you do then I can only assume that if I walked through your deepest thoughts I wouldn't get my ankles wet! Wake up and stop tongue punching his ring, you obviously do care.
Maybe you think him doxxing people is good behaviour? I haven't even publicised that side of him YET. Watch this space.
Go fishing
I'm fishing now, you're not my first bite today!

In reply to Post #64 That's a considerable amount of effort and research, what was your motivation for that, save us all from a fate worse than death or maybe you are part of the tackle industry or just bored.
As I understand it you are buying from Temu not him, yes he gets a commission if bought via his site, cant see anything wrong with that
Also so we all know the background of people we are dealing with, I don't think so
And no I don't know or care about the guy but anyone on here that thinks he is wrong about manufacturers ripping anglers off is delusional in my humble opinion.
Go fishing

So if I understand this, bloke complains that he had not been sponsored or supported by the fishing industry so is now naming and shaming various named anglers and trying to 'expose ' the carp tax by pushing Temu stuff as being identical.
But it turns out he is a convicted criminal involved in scamming anglers and other more serious organised crime, does he not think that maybe this is the reason none of the companies he is going after didn't want anything to do with him? Having a convicted fraudster isn't the best way to promote your company.
Or am I missing something in this story?

In reply to Post #64 3. The NoCarpTax Reality: His new platform pushes cheap Temu gear under the lie that it comes from the "same factories" as top UK brands. He does not stock or quality control this gear; it is an affiliate scheme designed to generate kickback commissions for himself off the back of the angling community. The community which he stole from!
I thought this was a lie. How does he know what factory produces what, I find extremely unlikely that he's done any research and if this information is readily available.

In reply to Post #65 I remember someone taking money for Ebro fishing trips.
He would make arrangements to pick them up from the airport but never showed up.

ā ļø ANGLER WARNING: The truth about "C4rpy Craig" (Craig Mitchell) /NoCarpTax/CarpFishingTours
Before buying tackle, clicking affiliate links, or booking fishing tours from "C4rpy Craig", anglers need to know who they are dealing with. His real name is Craig Carden, and he has a history of defrauding the angling community.
1. The Fishing Tour Scam: In 2007, Carden was arrested and charged with 11 offences, including stealing money from groups of everyday anglers by taking massive cash deposits for fake French carp trips that never existed. This was exposed by The Mirror's Penman & Sommerlad investigation.
2. The 2013 Jail Term: He was later jailed for 5 years for possession of a sawn-off shotgun in connection with a Sussex organised crime group (The Argus Court Report). He exaggerates this to "12 years" on podcasts to cover up his earlier crimes against anglers like YOU!
4. CarpFishingTours.com: proceed with extreme caution. A new fishing-tour company linked to Craig Carden raises obvious concerns given the documented history above. Before paying any deposit, independently verify the legal company name, who is responsible for your booking, the venue and dates, cancellation/refund terms, and genuine third-party reviews. Pay by credit card where possible and avoid cash or bank-transfer deposits without clear written protection.

Sure some of it MAY be the same as what companies are selling but not all of it, take a cheap item such as the Nash bait needle that he's posted, sure it looks kinda the same but it's not the one Nash sell the temu one, looks like a temu one, a cheap copy,. If anyone is risking it with higher priced items like reels and alarms good luck to you

In reply to Post #60 I do agree that this has exposed those companies who are simply rebranding a bit of camping equipment or a small bit of plastic. I think all do it to some degree. Iāve put a big order in for things like shrink tubing, kickers, rig boxes and itās all been spot on. I havenāt used anything ābreakableā so-to-speak, but I do have a load of hooks, spinner swivels and braid which Iām lead to believe has some good reviews.
What isnāt being taken into account though is the research and development on some of these items. I see thereās a version of a heli-safe - no doubt Korda would have gone through massive expense in time and money to develop that product. Iād be pretty irritated if it was now just being sold at a fraction of the price - I dare say there may be some legal implications (though Iām no expert).
This doesnāt apply to all, but there are some fantastic brand developing some brilliant bits of kit. It doesnāt seem right that their products can just be undercut and shipped directly from China. Ive just bought 100 āKrank-Styleā hooks for a fiver - shame on me.
The cheap spombs are rubbish btw.

Craig seems to be going in hard with hamidi at the moment. Real bee in his bonent. I hope this website works out ok for him. Hope everyone gets something out of it... The tackle industry does need a bit of a shake up. Had it there way for to long.
Anyway... a lead clips a lead clip.. a kickers a kicker.. etc, etc..
Bite alarms and reels a diffrent animal. Have these so called cheaper versions of the more expensive same things. Actually be compared side by side. They might look the same feel the same. But have they been opened up. Examined in depth.. because when they start seezing up or not bleeping when you want them to. Customers ain't running back to Temu. Worth considering.

I was curious so took a quick look. A couple of my immediate observationsā¦
1) the items on the nocarptax website are already easily found on TEMU⦠for example search for leadcore or headtorch - the first results that come up are those on the nocarptax site.
2) when clicking the links on the nocarptax site, I experience several pop-up windows which make the process more time consuming than just staying on TEMU and browsing. I tried this from my phone which is where Iād do my online ordering, not sure about from other devices
Fair enough the nocarptax site might have some gems on there but I think most items can be found easily yourself just by browsing TEMU and reading the reviews.

A race to the bottom
Whatever any of us do for a living, service, manufacture or sell, and now imagine you can buy that in for 75% less. From the Far East, that has absolutely no interest, development or tax liabilities in this great country of ours?
Imagine yourself snivelling in the pub, telling your mates that the roofs you lay are a skill and the Temu versions not as good quality, or that chainsaw you use for your tree business cost thousands more £ and the start ups have no skills and knowledge so are a fraction of the price. That would be ok would it?
A far away communist country that is on the road to global domination, leaving the development, innovation, marketing and engineering to the west because there in no profit in this bit only overhead.
This guy is trying to make a name for himself and a living because he was turned away from trying to do what he now says he hates - like a born again evangelist- how sweet.
For years weāve all know about a few money saving ideas, discovered items that have just been rebadged, but to give this bloke airtime and for him to pretend he is shaking up the industry is a joke. Hopefully in a few weeks it will die down and his ego will abate, maybe if heās lucky he will see his local tackle shop close down, or his local water be full of novices with Ā£80 bait boats and echo sounders.
He hasnāt found a loop hole in fishing - this is life now, next day on Amazon or a couple of weeks for a Ā£10 circular saw from Temu.
Moneys tight - I get it - but donāt slag off an industry for charging Ā£6 for hooks that are available in a tackle shop - yes they may be the same, but they developed the pattern, tested them, marketed them, gave away loads to get them out there, paid tax and importation, gave the shop a healthy margin for their staff, who in turn help show how to use them, where and when.
Whatever I think of big companies, I understand overheads, and think Ali has probably done more damage than this chancer has. He is rebadging the entire Temu catalogue almost out of spite for his Korda demise. Say what you want about Fairbrass, but heās super smart and a good judge - he doesnāt release crap, he develops, and weāve almost done a full loop back to when Penning smashed up the NGT stand.
Thereās a Cotswold cool bag thread running on here, and the feedback from users and Rob is a credit - all this grifter has to do is send one off to the Far East and two weeks later will have the copies back and a minimum order - thatās ok is it? Not for me.

In reply to Post #55 Tackle companies are a joke nowadays. I've found Fox to be one of the worst culprits. Everyone remembers the maple fire pans scam that came out some years ago. They didn't even try to hide the fact it was another companies product with a 50% markup on the original price. Since then they've copied so many other companies, the latest being their new landing nets, a blatant copy from Fencl.
I try to buy from either local shops or 2nd hand nowadays. Not paying the ridiculous mark up tackle companies charge. Be glad when a few go out of business.

In reply to Post #46 You can see in his previous videos he uses Shimano ultegra ci4 if I remember correctly fortis snugpak sj9 Nash indulgence bed vass waders a power barrow etc. Personally I would rather help support local shops and the people that work there.
I just find it funny all this came about in the month or so before his bait company went live and now he's selling it for £16 a kilo or 10kg for £130. Good marketing to be fair but not for me

|
|
In reply to Post #52 You hit the nail on the head here.
I donāt think anyone minds paying a little extra to support a UK business and UK jobs because we understand the overheads involved with running a business.
The big issue here is when a company takes a generic product and then changes the colour and puts their brand on it but increases the price to unacceptable levels. Otherwise known as unfair trading.
A 15 litre green plastic bucket costs £5. If you try and charge £11+ for it that is carp tax.
The industry is digging a big hole for itself because by copying everyone elseās products and trying to sell them as a new innovation at overinflated prices the only thing theyāre doing is damaging their brand and reputation.

In reply to Post #1 My understanding of "Carp Tax" is where you can buy the same product for less money but without the branding. Take the gizmo that allows you to get the dregs out of a gas bottle into another fuller one. Solar Gas Link Valve £24.99 same thing on Amazon £7.99 That's Carp Tax!!

In reply to Post #50 ... I especially liked his answer to the customer who said they could beat the discount Ricci offered him - summed up the value of a Tackle Shop to a tee ...
|
|
|
|

Ricci Connolly on the Korda podcast this week summarises well the value tackle shops bring beyond just product on a shelf - they're a hub of local knowledge, advice and community. I totally get people wanting to save costs and there are lots of examples of product with an unnecessary carp tax applied but that's where community (and this forum included) helps other anglers save - not through monetised links.

In reply to Post #48 I like walking round a proper tackle shop , I pick up stuff and compare which has served me well as iv often gone in for one item only to buy something that suits me better . Unfortunately Browns tackle shop in my local town shut down through no fault of its own , they pointed you in the right direction , got stuff in very quick often going the extra mile . They knew info on how places were fishing , try getting that off temu

In reply to Post #47 I have used loads of hooks from temu.
For barbel on the river I use them as they come, and for carp I hand sharpen them with no issues.
Also lead clips, Kickers, anti tangle sleeves, leadcore and other bits.

I like what he's done. Never used Temu or similar before, but bought a few bits and bobs to try it out. Don't think I'd buy hooks, line or alarms, but that's a personal thing. The rest of it, I'd definitely take a punt on some cheaper gear. Definitely going to save some money because of this. Don't care if he makes a few quid via sponsored links, good for him.

It is a weird mission that he is on and after seeing a few videos of him, he is just as much of an attention seeker than all the names he weirdly calls out.
He called out Elliot Gray for sacking a fish that died a few weeks/months later? I've just seen a video of him catching 'floppy tail' in which he sacked the fish for a good few hours waiting for first light, re-counting the tale with 2 strategically placed outlaw pro buckets for advertising.
Weird. Hypocrite.

Has he actually used the 23 different reels on there? Says in his video that he uses everything he puts up. I don't think so, and it is coming across as a grift to get subsidies from Teemu links.

Let's be honest, it's crazy the money Korda have made from essentially selling leads, hooks and little bits of plastic and I don't blame anyone for buying from the likes of temu.
I've been buying lots of bits from Bank Tackle for quite a few years now and I've absolutely no doubt that they source all their products from the likes of temu.
I watched a couple of videos from the guy that has set up this no carp tax website and what I took from it is that he's basically just very, very angry that no company in fishing industry wanted to pay for him to go fishing because he catches a few carp.
Very angry and entitled is what comes across. I don't believe for one second that his motivation is genuinely for the good of others, even though that will quite likely be a byproduct and if any of the big companies had taken him on and given him what he thinks he deserves, then he would would never have mentioned the carp tax that was filtering down to him.

In reply to Post #1 I have used Lots of the products listed there. Hirisi is a decent brand for terminal tackle. Some of the hooks they Produce are a bit thicker but for this price you can file them as much as youd like. For plastic bits I don't find any difference between them and named Brands.

In reply to Post #42 How dare you buy small bits of end tackle from ali express š
Whilst there's plenty I'd be happy to use from Temu etc, i must admit, I'm not sure id risk electrical. Mainly from a warranty perspective.
Hooks, I have no issue with. Whether they're exactly the same or not, we can't complain of quality/reliability just because its not a big brand. The amount of stick Korda have got over the years for hooks breaking proves that.

In reply to Post #37 Same in the early days of AliExpress, Fast-tech, etc, lots of cloned products that were short on quality.
I have bought a few small items of end tackle on AliExpress, at those prices and quantities I'm not complaining about hooklink tails, tungsten beads and rig rings
Still wouldn't buy the hooks.. because they are exactly the same..š

In reply to Post #25 "I understand the points about innovation, product developments ect. But, if you get China to manufacture for you, you know what the outcome is. You know theyāll just produce extra and sell it themselves. The companies manufacturing their own products arenāt on temu are they⦠that would create more jobs if firms started doing that! Costs would have to go up in all likelihood though."
Exactly this š. I really wish more companies would manufacture in the UK. Trust me it's tough and expensive to do so, you really need to accept lower margins on your products just to be seen as having 'ridiculous' prices but keeping the prices at a level where we have enough customers that are willing to pay for quality UK made goods. None of the big companies would get out of bed for the margins we work with but then I remember hearing that one company that shall remain unnamed worked on a 10% returns due to faulty goods. You'd need higher margins in that scenario. It's always been difficult for manufacturing in the UK with wages, high taxes, extremely high energy costs etc etc, and this current government wants to squeeze manufacturing just a little more. But all us UK manufacturing companies live in hope that one day the government will realise our importance and help us become competitive again.
As for the Temu thing, it is most definitely a direct result of the big brands being so dependent on China to do all their manufacturing. It made financial sense because the manufacturing cost was/is so low but now it will start to bite them more and more.

In reply to Post #37 I have heard the same, but whilst they look identical, the products are not actually quite the same, just a copied version. FairPlay to this guy Craig, for turning his life round, and he seems to be very honest in discussing his past, fair play for that. It must be considered, though, that this type of trading also cuts out the tackle shops. Itās hard enough out there for them at the moment without further pressure.

Lots of products get copied in China but the problem is quality control.
A few years ago there were fake fox rx plusās.
A colleague and I opened them up to find the electronics used were inferior, no conformal coating on the PCB against damp / moisture.
All the semiconductor components were Chinese brands no European / US semiconductor manufacturers which is what they use.
So whilst you can buy products which claim to be from the same factory they really are not imho.

I don't like everyone i see either. We're all different.
What i do do though is at least try to understand something before questioning it openly, and then when someone tries to help me understand, not completely write it off.

How do you know they are legit ?
Website was only set up 38 days ago.

In reply to Post #28 Agree, no one should do that... But it's not a website that is selling goods.
It's literally just a website, that is advertising goods, with links to Temu where they can be purchased.

I just put that website in ChatGPT think Iāll passā¦.
I checked what I could find, and I would not recommend using nocarptax.com unless you can independently verify who is behind it.
Here are the concerns:
* I couldnāt find evidence that itās a recognised UK tax business with an established reputation.
* I couldnāt find clear evidence that it is affiliated with HMRC or a recognised UK professional tax body.
* If itās asking for personal information, tax details, or payment, you should be especially cautious. HMRC advises that scams often pressure people into providing personal or financial information.

As has been mentioned the fella behind this site is Craig the same fella that's called out Simon Crow. And a few other anglers for dubious angling practices. It seems he's on a one man mission to upset the angling trade. Controversy gets view. Whether this will work out for him who knows. Are the angling trade quaking in there boots, again who knows.
Maybe we'll get a shift in what us anglers are willing to pay. It seems that every " me too " company's that crops up comes in that the same price as that what the trade dictates. Maybe it's a case of not wanting to upset the apple cart. Plod along and take there slice of the pie. Craig is just making people aware there's other cheaper options out there.

In reply to Post #23 My understanding is that the links on the website are stuff heās used / can vouch for. So you can buy with some form of confidence, as there is a lot of rubbish on there and youāll not know until it arrives.
I understand the points about innovation, product developments ect. But, if you get China to manufacture for you, you know what the outcome is. You know theyāll just produce extra and sell it themselves. The companies manufacturing their own products arenāt on temu are they⦠that would create more jobs if firms started doing that! Costs would have to go up in all likelihood though.
The issue is that any of us (just as Ali did) could start a ābrandā tomorrow & have a full range of terminal tackle by the end of the week purchasing from
China. Thatās ridiculous. Iād suggest people were better just buying direct from China than lining these chancers products.
Heās stated heāll put all the affiliate money back into it or to create opportunities for young anglers. so, letās see if he sticks to his word. Ali had a lot to say on the fox podcast, but whatās he done? Itās all hot air.

In reply to Post #23 I see your point, and that's all fair enough. I'm not going to sit here and pretend i know the ins and outs of business or tax etc cos i don't, thats not me. I'm just taking it for what it is.
The guy himself, nope, I don't know him. Never met him. I follow him on Instagram, that's as far as it goes.
You're statement there is absolutely false. He hasn't introduced any tax by commission. Have you even looked at the website, or the items on Temu?
The Temu price, is the Temu price. Its not more because he gets a tiny percentage. Temu take the tiny loss for the sake of his commission, not the buyer.
If it makes anyone feel better, you don't even have to follow his links. Find the same items on temu, you'll see its they're roughly the same prices.
As ridiculous as the perception is, surely you can see my point of a pack of 50 x hooks for say 3 quid, against a pack of 10 for 6 quid.
Both made and purchased in/from china, maybe from the same factory, difference being is not going to OMC or a tackle shop to purchase them.

In reply to Post #20 Carp Tax = adding a premium to a product because it has been repurposed from something else. See Nash moon chairs, bait grinders, better packs, etc etc.
Carp tax doesnāt appear on products that were made for the original intention, that for the last 45 odd years has been my understanding. Given your example below (which I strongly disagree with) he has introduced his own tax by commission! If you want to keep more money in your pocket, why would you not buy direct? Why do you see the value in his tax, but not a mark up for the companies innovating products, marketing products? Supporting magazines, shops and the sport in general?
When Trakker produce a bivvy for Ā£1k and the factory does a direct rip off for Ā£500 then theāsavedā Ā£500 isnāt ātaxā- it isnāt reinvested in the sport, this country but is an absolute scam. If fishing was under threat in the uk, do you think Temu or Ali express would care? Would fox? Nash? Trakker - of course they would.
Would this bloke (you seem to know him) walk round the tackle box with his disciples and show how customers could save money, getting them to peruse the products, have a look and feel and then provide the link to save money? If that OK? When the tackle box shut thier doors, or Johnson Ross, or Fox will his mission be complete, that he has educated us all and help us save money? Heās not Martin bloody Lewis.
I could probably find most things you buy cheaper - from a picture frame in hobby craft, a shirt from TK max or a frying pan. Once we get to this stage and you need some screws to mend something at home, or you need to pop in and buy a bag of bait for a day session, youāll be crying that the high street is just vape shops and charity shops.
Look up the meaning of the word tax and you will see the ridiculousness of this perception. We may be paying mark ups, for company profit, for marketing, for innovation, for people livelihoods but tax it certainly isnāt.
Everyone wants to save money, but there is a balance and the current trend of social media blaggers who think they have invented fire is ridiculous. Open your eyes - save as much as you can but this blagger is short sighted and worse than that wants to skim a bit on topā¦
|
|
|
|
In reply to Post #21 You talk a good game and i get what you're saying, but there's nothing innovative about Ali Hamidi starting OMC and releasing hooks we can get elsewhere, whip kits, sleeves, swivels etc etc. and charging silly money, because of who he is. That's called taking the P**S as far as I'm concerned.
...and anyway, where do you think these big brands are getting there gear? They're buying from china and selling to the uk market.
Why can they buy from China and not me??
You can't honestly say you think fox, omc, korda etc etc is made over here?
|
|
|
|
In reply to Post #20 How do you think that ācarp taxā is saved? Youāre short cutting all the guys over here doing their jobs, paying their taxes, paying their national insurance. Your money goes directly to a Chinese business, which in turn goes to the Chinese government (with a few pence for the social media grifter).
The āno mark upā that this guy so proudly displays on his website is the wages of the working man in this country.
Why do you think innovation has dried up over here now? Why would the British cottage industries bother putting money into developing something like the Bagless Wonder now? Carpy Chris would have a link to a knock off direct from Temu for 40p within two months.

|
|
In reply to Post #19 Some good points there to be fair, and some of which i agree with.
I do completely agree with the real innovation side of it, but I'm afraid alot of that has completely gone.
Ali Hamidi for example (and no hate towards him, although I'd admit I'm not a big fan), he's started a company (fair play), and most of the S**T they're selling is repackaged (in ridiculous packaging I'll add but it's different i spose), stuff that's already out there.
What i will disagree with is the carp tax mantra. If i was going to buy a product from the shop (could be anything, not just fishing), and someone offered/warned me of an exact cheaper alternative at a quarter or fifth of the price, just different packaging, I'd thank them for saving me some money. Same goes for this.

In reply to Post #17 This is so true and I canāt believe the support this guy is getting for what is essentially accelerating what the Far East has always wanted, last man standing so they can hold the world to ransom.
If you look at the bigger companies, not the little start ups who ship swivels and pva from China and split down bulk to scam a few quid, this is hugely damaging to not just carp fishing but life in general.
Think of the little bits of innovation- things like spinner swivels, bait screws etc. someone has gone through all the cost and prototyping just for the Chinese factory to scam, make copies or sell direct to anybody.
I have a mate who imports from China and as you will see from sites such as Temu these are not about making a profit in fact they are not about making money at all, they are about globally destroying manufacturing everywhere until at some point they are last man standing and can charge what they want. All their factories are on Government subsidies - it doesnāt matter what they make or sell just as long as they produce something.
In ,y opinion ācarp taxā is a ridiculous mantra, years ago during the developing years it was about a company finding an existing product (shrink tube, pva nuggets etc etc) and just replacing a sticker to make it carp tackle, I get and support that. But blatant copies and some bloke showing how to access these and being lauded a hero - not for me.
The trouble is we all now do it, the more we do, the more shops will close their doors, they are already being used as showrooms. Imagine developing a product, costing hundreds sometimes thousands of Ā£ to get it spot on (spomb?) risking your livelihood on an idea, for the dream to be over within months when the near perfect copies flood the market, for probably less that they were buying trade - Iāve been there and done it.
We all want to save a few quid but we should all be aware that when we moan and groan in 5, 10 or twenty years time, when all we have is temu and the prices have risen, we got what we deserved. Iām not suggesting that this situation is recoverable or that you should be paying for the real deal - what we should be aware of is that the bigger innovative companies are not taxing us, they are paying huge sums for staff, marketing, field testing just to be ripped off at the very point where they should be making margins. Get someone else to do the legwork then scam a copy.
Whilst many companies (Nash- trakker etc.) might not have helped themselves with some ridiculous products - trust me we will miss them when theyāve gone.

In reply to Post #17 Yep, fair enough.
I guess that's how the world goes round.
Me personally, will try and spend less where i can, so i can maybe put abit more on my own table.
Naturally i hope the guys from kent and essex do well out of life also, and i wish them the best.
For what its worth, there are things you can't buy from Temu, or things I'd rather see in the flesh that i do/have/will get from my local tackle shop.
|
|
|
|
Yep, fair enough.
Iād rather pay my Ā£5 for a packet of hooks from a tackle shop. I know exactly what Iām getting because Iām holding it in my hand. The guy from Kent who works in the shop gets a wage, the guy from Essex who drives a fork lift in a tackle company warehouse gets a wage and they both get to put food on the table for their families.
If the hooks turn out to be rubbish I take them back to the shop and they give me something else. Maybe Iām old fashioned like that.

In reply to Post #15 Fine, and fair enough.
We'll agree to disagree on motives behind the website etc , but honestly, you're wrong š
In regards to the purchase side of it, you're purchase would be with Temu, not him.
Pay with a credit card and I'd imagine you'd have some protection.
From the commission side of it, Temu would just give him a tiny percentage of sales.
Look at it from a different angle though. I'd rather save 80% of my own money and him get a small bit of commission, than pay full price for the same tackle and line the pockets of the owners of the big tackle brands.
|
|
|
|
In reply to Post #14 I donāt have a clue who he is, certainly no hate š
I can just see through it, another social media carp āinfluencerā with a new angle.
What happens it you buy something from one of his links and it doesnāt turn up? Or a package of tea towels turns up instead of a reel you spent Ā£50 on direct from China? Does he give you a refund? Heās already made his money through the affiliate link commission, where does that leave you?
|
|
|
|
In reply to Post #13 I didn't say he didn't get anything from it.
I'm fully aware how it works.
What i said was, hes not bothered about making money from it, its fully about helping the everyday carp anglers not spending ridiculous amounts of money on the same items repackaged and sold for 4 times the price.
You obviously dont like the guy, thats up to you, but if you can see through the hatred enough to either look on the website, or on temu, you'll see the same tackle items.
Christ some stuff on temu even has korda packaging in the product photos.
Eat that up š

In reply to Post #11 Reps from companies just ordering bulk from china, their brand on packets, selling as their own crap.
Profits keeping all their mates in free crap, free tickets so they catch mug simmos for the gram. Keeps the wheels turning.
Was just the same in the mags, carpworld doing articles for the advertisers, a money-go -round for all the boys.

In reply to Post #1 Search c4rpycraig on Instagram. Look at his previous stories/highlights. It'll explain everything about the site and why.
More or less, he's on a mission to find the exact products that the big tackle brands are offering, but without the carp tax, and fair play too. Hence nocarptax.com
Loads of the items sold via temu even have the same packaging as the big brands too!

It just looks like a directory of affiliate sales links to Temu sellers? āCarpy Chrisā has put his face to it in the hope of scalping a few pence on any sales that go through, but you are buying from Temu.
