I do the same but never fishing at long range. Haven’t cracked a spomb off for years now.

Thanks Daz.

I was worried anything below 40lb might be a bit weak without a leader.

Do you know what diameter the braid is that you use?

Not used that braid, I just use a cheap 4 strand in 30lb straight through, no problems here.

Hi,

I'm looking for braid to use straight through on a combined marker/spomb rod. Midi spomb up to around 100 yards.

Has anyone used the Sougayilang 8 strand braid off ebay?

They do 41lb (0.23mm) and 54lb (0.28mm).

Just after some advice if anyone has used this, what bs/diameter would be best straight through and if there's any 8 strand braid that's come out since these posts that is good value?

Thanks

I've got Kast King on 4 spod/marker reels, 2 x 40lb and 2 x 20lb. I've used various braids before and this is as good as the Korda stuff IMO. 500m costs about £10 from ebay. Think it comes from Hong Kong, but mine always arrived within 2 weeks.

And comes in a nice range of colours.

The cheap stuff is fine I’ve used it for years. Green spectra in 30lb with a 45lb quicksilver shockleader.

I’ve just cheap because the braid I’ve been using for the last 6yrs was cheap and has served it’s purpose!

Not sure why you say cheap - since braid lasts some time, you may as well get something decent. What ever the label on the spool, they're all made my the same very small number of manufacturers anyway. Makes me laugh when I see tackle companies claims that they 'designed' their lines... anyway...

50lb Powerpro in yellow is what I use for spodding and marker. Have been using Powerpro since the mid 90's, best there is.

What breaking strain do you use and is it straight through or with a leader?
