In reply to Post #1 If it's bulking & clearing spots the Pigeon Conditioner is ideal, the one I use contains some Buckwheat.
I did have a season on just Buckwheat couple of years ago, it was very effective for me.
The reason was as someone pointed out the conditioner is quite light and I wanted things a little darker as I was fishing within a rod length & the fish were a bit skittish.
Probably cost around £10 more a sack for the Buckwheat.

In reply to Post #1 I like groats take on any flavour cheap and take 30mins to prep pigeon conditioner is OK but it's aniseed which I don't like myself so prob why I avoided. However they do Work. For me hemp maize maple groats tigers did well In France on tiger nut paste wrapped double chickpea.
Used to put a cup full of cell activator after boiled and below 30 degrees also tea spoon per kg lysine/betaine

Parti blend v Buckwheat.
Hard one to call. Both got the quality's. Parti been round the block a few times. But Buckwheat has got youth on its side. Bit new to the game. Hidden quality's that we are yet to see.
But there's no replacement for experience. Parti been there and done it many strings to its bow. Buckweat bit one dimensional still a lot to prove.
I can see it going the distance. But for me it would be a narrow point decision in favour of Part blend. But Buckwheat shouldn't feel to disheartened. I can see a bright future ahead for it.
But both will have to go a long way to surpass the greatest pond for pond Particle in Emp.
Ding, ding. Seconds out..

1. When younger I used groats almost exclusively, cheerful and effective but does stand out. I suppose you could dye it with graveyard granules or something if birds a issue re visibility.
2. Then I went through a pigeon conditioner phase, aniseed, and due to a lot of the volatiles in the aniseed being driven off I'd add more when cooled.
3. Lastly I used a mix of tares or maples with hemp, I think that's the least obvious mix bird wise. My favourite personally but costly nowadays with the hemp.
Of all 3 if I had to bin one it'd be the groats. Though the simplest to prep, as mentioned imo they don't create the same interest/hold the fish as long as mixed particle. Maybe its the hemp and maybe hemp/groat woukd be just as good as PC.
Then again, imo, people just don't use groats much anymore, that could be a advantage and they do give off a lovely milky cloud, much faster than either the above.

Haven't used buckwheat as a straight or to bulk out, as already mentioned there is so much variation in conditioner,
Gives options for hookbaits, I did well using strings of larger particle, 2-3" hairs mixing up tigers, maples maize, or just tipping boilies with a maple.

I’ve used both in quantity, I’d always go for pigeon conditioner, so many little bits and pieces, and very visual (if you want that). I opt for the sacks without maize or peas, and infused with aniseed oil.

Am going to start using particles again to bulk up feed and also clear spots etc and was wondering whether either of the above have any advantages over the other, or if one is considered better than the other generally?
