Links not working. Vimeo is now a subscription site.

In reply to Post #580 I am binge watching these...well, sort off. I watch one a day each afternoon while on my indoor exercise bike. Make the time go quickly and the weight is falling off...Trouble is, Christmas looms!

In reply to Post #580 Just watched Rainbow June 2013 Part 3. It was great to see Rod H on top form. What a Legend, in the true sense of the word. That still of him in the van towards the very end of the film is Rod to a tee. Rest well, Big Man
In reply to Post #668 Hi Ken, I messaged Kev to see if he was aware and he is. Currently appealing against it but if that doesn't work he may re-edit the video with the offending track/tracks removed
In reply to Post #580 Kev: are you aware that this vid, Rainbow Revisited, November 2012 Part 1, is blocked by Vimeo due to (alleged) music copyright infringement. Shame is that.

In reply to Post #665 TOP man Chuffy, cheers

In reply to Post #580 Anyone know the makers of the square shaped bivvy used in the videos. Been doing a search on internet can not find nothing.
In reply to Post #648 Yeah Vimeno is a strange app.
Works fine on my phone, but has a paddy on my smart TV.
I have to open the films on my phone and highlight as watch later, then close phone app and go into app on my TV and its in the watch later file. It also doesn't like being paused for some reason - every time I pause it, when press play it goes for a few mins and then restarts from the beginning.
In reply to Post #646 Works ok on my iPad, I just click the link
In reply to Post #646 I had the same issue on my iPad. Got the Vimeo app and it's fine now. Not sure about the YouTube problem though
In reply to Post #646 Do some Googling, there's loads about this issue.
In reply to Post #580 Any idea why I can't watch any of these on my iPad? The film plays with sound going but just a frozen picture? Same with YouTube, sound but no picture? Anyone out there have any ideas?

In reply to Post #623 Hi Kev,
Recently had some comments pointed out to me regarding your Koi video exploits and I'd just like to to make the following comments"
Thank you for paying for the cameras and filming kit, the editing software, the drone (which I presume you've probably lost up another tree) and the time you spend putting the videos together so I can watch them for the price of an internet connection whenever I should choose to do so.
After a hard day or when things aren't going great in life there is nothing like being taken to a hobby and a place I'd rather be by the "most photogenic man on the planet" for an hour or so.
As far as ego is concerned, I found it laughable. Your personality and ego are pretty much one and the same and make all the videos unique and enjoyable in their own right.
I hope you stick to your "Never the end" motto
Anyway thanks for the vids
Best
Jon

Kevins vids are reality, as it happens its nice of him to take time and let us enjoy his adventures ,

In reply to Post #611 Not a patch on kevs.
In reply to Post #609 Hope u get well soon, but what u say about the laughs and the friendship is what i tend to remember about fishing trips, not the occasional big fish but the falling into the water or out of the tree, the beers and the banter
In reply to Post #580 Great vids these by Kevin Ellis set at just the right mix of humour and serious fishing. Quite like the ones by Lee Morris too, just wish he didn't winge and whine so much whilst playing a fish, sounds more like he's giving birth than fishing
In reply to Post #580
cheers for sorting those out, still got several to see.
In reply to Post #608 Well, after totalling my sports bike and fracturing 6 ribs and my collar bone I've had plenty of time to watch all the videos lol
Really enjoyed them all, some of the best fishing material I have seen, captures the real side of fishing, great friends, some top lads, good times, great banter, real passion evident and happy, happy, happy times
I bet when they look back at these in 5, 10, 15 - 20 years time they will have a smile on their face, a lump in their throat and a tear in their eyes
Absolutely brilliant
Never the end...
In reply to Post #607 Well, I'm half the way through these now, absolutely brilliant !
The man loves his fishing and certainly likes a good dinner lol
Great little interviews, great banter and love the fishing, brilliant
If this does not deserve a sticky I'm not sure what does, especially since all the links have been organised. Some of the best carping blogs / vids I've seen, by far
In reply to Post #606 I always love watching these, stunning fish with a bit of comedy

In reply to Post #580 Seen this thread flying around for a while and took little interest.
Absolutely fantastic, just watched the first one
Without sounding like a tw@t France has never interested me, after been asked to go several times in the past I have never been bothered. Always been happy doing my own thing
That Rainbow lake and the fishing style is something else, would I love to have a dabble their, looks fantastic, proper challenge and a totally different way of fishing, over grown, little wild, brilliant
And if that's just homemade filming, exceptional, happy times
Just got all the rest to watch now, book me a place
Finally kev, finally

When he caught that whacker many years ago and I went to the talk he done in Dartford when Lee Jackson was regional organiser sent me on a path as at the time it was an unbelievable sized fish.
The rest is history , nice to see him getting seriously back in the groove the last few years.

In reply to Post #516 Hi Kevin,
Can't wait to watch your video's always love them!
In reply to Post #516 Oldgeezer
I use Camsports video glasses, have a search around Amazon and reviews, expect to pay £120-150 for them or similar, you can also use a GoPro which has lots of other applications including underwater but I found in the panic of a bite I would stick on me head and video the sky......glasses so much more accurate!
I will do review of some of my equipment on next trip end August.
Regards
Kev

kev, i know you spent loads on the drone you bought, but you really need to grab one of these mate, much better for what you want.
just get whoever is in the swim with you to chuck it in the air once your away from the bank and jobs a good en, or just keep it in your boat and give it a chuck once your out there to avoid the trees
and to top it all waterproof!!

Be patient chaps. These vids are definitely worth the wait. No doubt as soon as he has a chance to get out there. Or anywhere as a matter of fact. His camcorder will be out and we will all be able to enjoy the results..☺
See what you've started Kev. You won't be able to let your public down now will you..😉
In reply to Post #491 Hi kev, how's the fishing going? Have you been filming at all.
Love the vids and just need to break the boredom of work and look forward to my French trip.
When is the next video up kev its been a while
In reply to Post #488 I totally agree, fish safety are essential.
To add running one or two cameras to the excitement when you get a take at Rainbow is a lot. A "dubble take" and the stress limit is close.
I just want to say no fish was harmed during the filming, but a couple of mistakes was made.
I have fished Rainbow about 25 weeks through the years and never damage a fish or left tackle in the water, a have got fish snagged but always got them out, or the few times i have not managed that I always got the rig back.
I have just filmed playing a few fish before this trip, but this time we wanted to do something a little bit "more" than a video diary. But that was more difficulty than we though.
I have seen a lot of stupid fishing down at Rainbow and I get as upset as you.
I think many of us are concerned about the welfare of the unique fish the lake hold. Nothing wrong to criticize when you see someone that putting "the safety of the fish at second hand". I though your first post was a bit over the top, but I think our opinion are not that far apart. Might see you down there in the future, my next trip is October.
Been watching theses videos fae Kevin pissin myself wae laughter really enjoy watching them getting to know the guys he's fishing with big Eric Arj etc the ice crusher get on it like a car bonnet the crusher gone in bin after seeing that.

In reply to Post #487 Mikael I said you COULD be out in the boat for up to a half an hour which is quite possible on the larger fish I know I have been close to this but then my mate is always back on the bank in the eventuality of another rod going off.
Covering a few things I have said and you replied to in your other post as well as this one, there is no mat under the tripod at all times watch your video again, in the rush to get to a take at about 23 minutes you even bounce the already weighed fish off the roots in the sling whilst your mate has a take, the mat in the boat you have apologised for, lifting every fish from the water in just the net is not a safe practice especially with fish to 64lb if there is a slight rip or tear in the net it could give it could if there isn't as well if the nets old or sun bleached and peachy that's why I always put a sling under it for extra security when transporting especially with all the exposed roots in the swims.
Given the editing might have shown a section that I might have taken for your mate fishing the Brazilian tree with an slack clutch because the cut away shot after you are both in the boat close to the said tree so I will apologise if I'm mistaken.
If you make a video for all to see then I'm sorry but your open to critism, I have been fishing Rainbow for the last 8 years and like I said I have seen a lot worse, in fact the middle of the summer last year I witnessed guys on the island from peg 1 with Eric's common out of the water for over 20 minutes in the middle of the hottest part of the day over 30 degrees, he came into our swim that night pissed as a fart he didn't stay long because I told him what I thought, also people fishing the bungee rigs, and when I fished peg 16 there were Hungarians fishing with lines locked into poles with 100lb+ mono and double swivels, yours it not the worst but fish safety is paramount.
I'm not after an argument just saying it as I see it.

In reply to Post #486 I will not waste a lot of time arguing with you Carpstar... Because it sounds like you are wherry quick to judge people you don't know anything about. But I put some things right.
"fishing the Brazilian tree with a semi slack clutch"??? I have never ever done that, I always fishing looked up against snags! The film is edited, not all takes are connected with the playing of the same fish. The takes with semi tight clutch is from open water, takes not to the Braszilian.
Half an hour out in the boat... , We had 15 takes, 2 hook pulls and landed 13 fish. We had friends fishing swim 18 and one of them were in our swim at times, but didn't do any filming.
But you are right about one thing, and that is a one time mistake. I usually transport the fish with the net in the water, if not the distance is 200 meters +. Then I take the fish aboard on to a mat. This time we forgot the mat, not a good excuse, but it is the first time ever. I apologies for that misstake.
I totally agree there is a lot of people fishing Rainbow, that not can handle the fish or angling situation. I´we seen people sacking fish, fishing with bait runner close to snags, loosing fish after fish, Keeping the fish out of the water 15-20 minutes, taking ridiculous numbers of fotos, fishing 300 meters distance with nylon standing up holding the fish.
I can go on and on, but if you have been there you probably seen it by your self. Often it is people from eastern Europe , (but not all of them) and I have seen britts fishing and respecting the fish extremely poor as well. Some people make misstakes and others are respectless... Do you know the difference?

In reply to Post #485 In saying all that Chris I have seen and known a lot worse down there, it doesn't go unmissed.
In reply to Post #484 I think it was worse than the spaniard. These videos show all the mere mortals why they cant fish this exclusive place
In reply to Post #483 That was just for starters.
Lifting fish over 60lb in just the net no sling around it to support the lifting, fishing the Brazilian tree with a semi slack clutch then walking backwards, pointless the fish could make the jungle of snags just under and beyond it, going two up in the boat for every fish, what happens to all the other unattended rods whilst they could be out there for up to or more than half an hour.
I could go on.

Not one of Kevin's nor is it of the same standard but some Swedish guys that have put a vid up recently of Rainbow, in my opinion all that I hate about some of the anglers who visit their with little or no idea, granted they land a few fish but things within this one to boil yer piss.

In reply to Post #475 Anything coming up kev ? Seems like years since last one
I'm just grateful that he makes the films just for the enjoyment
I agree with what has been said. I watched a couple of the later ones just out of curiosity really as I'd heard about the fishing round poles and islands etc at Rainbow.
I enjoyed the ones I watched so decided to go back to watch them all from episode 1 and even watched the ones I had already seen before. I found myself living the journey with him from day 1 and as you watched each new episode you got to know the anglers on there. Thoroughly enjoyed them so far and look forward to seeing future episodes.
I love his sense of humour, I bet its lost on some people though.
I even started watching the koi ones as I used to keep koi myself in days gone by.
edit. I heard he was an accountant but not sure if that's true or not as he refers to a furniture business in one of the episodes. Minted by the look of his house and Koi collection!
In reply to Post #472 I reckon he was one of the infamous Essex Boys and made all his cash in the late 80's early 90's.
In reply to Post #471 Id love to see a video of some of his fishing in england. Ive been watching the koi ones too. You can tell they cost a fortune as they one mention prices whn talking about the cheap fish (£500). What do u do for a living kev as I think im in the wrong job
In reply to Post #470 Haha. Yes! You just knew what was coming!
Funniest bit for me was when he was fishing with Dale (quiet lad). They arrive at a swim and they're looking around it.
Dale: "This is where I was this time last year....same dates....."
*silence*
Camera stays on Dale......
*silence*
Kev: "Yeah? Is there an 'and'?........'
Dale: "No"
Just cracks me up every time.
Anyone else fancy a fry up or curry when watching these?! Make me starving.
love these vids. not my type of fishing either but i absolutely love kevs humour. I find myself laughing my head off when i watch these. when he was panning the camera up at arjens hair i was laughing because i knew he was dying to say something before he even said it.
He's even got me watching his koi vids when they go up as well,he's certainly a character
In reply to Post #467 You know i was going to ask the same when you mentioned the eating bit.
Surely he's not that messy when eating..lol looks like a baby that hasn't had it's face wiped :-)
Finally got round to watching these. Absolutely-bloody-brilliant.
I never bothered before because I didn't know anything about the lake or Kevin and I just assumed it was the usual type of carp video blog that bore me after 5 minutes. I couldn't have been more wrong. I've never seen anything like them. Some of them are 1h 30m long and yet I watch them all the way through.
I started with the first one and wasn't sure what to make of it. Snags, Gazebos, TVs, DVD players, fridges........ I thought: "This ain't for me...." Then something just clicked..... I just didn't get his humour at first and didn't realise 99% of the time he is just taking the piss out of himself and everyone he meets. Oak trees, Golden eagles, baby magpies, giant insects........
He's got an amazing gift of putting people at ease and just chatting to them like he's known them all his life. I can't believe the stuff he gets away with!
It inspires my own fishing which couldn't be any more different to Rainbow.
I only have one complaint. WTF is the eating all about? Please tell me it's a joke? It's the most vile thing I've ever seen.
Other than that. Absolutely brilliant. If you read this Kev, thanks so much for making these. You're a star. You've captured something really special. Something I knew nothing about. Very emotional watching you talk about your Mum
The joke at end was brilliant!!! Happy new year all
In reply to Post #463 Hi all I liked the look of the led light they both had, does any one know if you can buy those.
In reply to Post #463 Not really my bag this. Looks like catch at any cost. Yeah strong gear lines etc. But fishing over islands, round corners into snags. No thanks.
In reply to Post #460 You can get the heaters on e bay they are paraffin heaters called big reds they are £50-£60 new, if you get one just make sure you get the good paraffin with no smell, they are meant for heating massive areas, so the output heat is pukka.
Sterling effort as always Mr Ellis. Glad to see you keeping up the old school tradition of see no different in clothes you'd wear out with a night with the lads and the clothes you'd go fishing in.
Congratulations on your new Rainbow PB by the way.

In reply to Post #406 probably just end up stumping up for the PRS on all them crappy 80's tracks he insists on playing on his vids anyway...
In reply to Post #405 Hes still looking into finding another host site where he can use his music... He'll sort it. It wouldn't be the same without the music personally.
In reply to Post #404 No idea sorry
In reply to Post #401 Carpy any news on how Kev's getting on uploading the videos?
In reply to Post #401 Had a message from Youtube about copyright music on a video i had up. They left it alone provided i agreed to them showing adverts.
In reply to Post #401 ah well, he had a good run, was wondering when they would get onto the music.
there are many vid sharing sites, but with them your only gonna get given a link to share it, not gonna be like havin your own page on youtube/vimeo etc with all your vids on show for people to watch.
think dailymotion is like vimeo. also zippcast might be worth a try
Kevs just posted on his Facebook profile his having trouble posting the videos on Vimeo as they have now blocked copy right music he likes to add to the videos his after suggestion on other sites to post the videos on

In reply to Post #394 Kevin, when will we get the next installment of your videos? Even if not on Rainbow mate the videos are hilarious even when your trying to be serious. C'mon Kev post some more Fairbrass etc aren't a patch on yours

The Third one of the JRC trip is the best yet. Don't often laugh at much fishing related footage. But this one had me chuckling away to myself. Won't spoil it but Kevin
When its a full moon in.............
In reply to Post #386 I stayed up late as possible last night watching these..cant wait to get home to watch the ones i didnt manage to watch.. Quality vids. Kev you are a funny bloke..
Loved how wound up you mate kept getting with the camera on the first videos
In reply to Post #385 Anybody who fishes in a going out out shirt gets my vote....awsome videos
In reply to Post #383 don't know what your getting at m8 everyone who fishes rainbow eats like that myself included
I like the fact that he has a laugh in his flims shows he is a normal bloke I often like these bits. I think it is better then watching certain fishing blogs were people are like robots and go on about the same old things.
In reply to Post #382 It's just the slopping mouth / food thing. Turns my stomach
I can do blood / brains/ ***** and gore!
In reply to Post #381 Come on Rich, you must realise Kev is just doing this as a bit of fun, let's face it, it's not the only messing about he is doing is it.
Rainbow about 15km from the pacific
A robin being described as a bullfinch
The 'magpie'
Man eating caterpillars
and that's just a few
In reply to Post #380 Right.
If it's done " for a laugh", I apologise, BUT it still annoys me about his vids. I DO still like them them though, as I've stated throughout posts.
The are really not needed, trust me. As a fireman of 20 years in a busy city station I DO have a a small sense of humour, and once laughed , in the mid 90s.
In reply to Post #376 Surely it's plainly obvious that it's just a joke?? I'm guessing that he's got a reputation amongst friends for being a messy eater and so plays the part for a laugh.
...The idea that Mr Ellis eats like that and films it to look "with it"
And even if he did genuinely eat like that, it's his video, filmed at his expense, he can do whatever he bl**dy well likes!
In reply to Post #376 Your reading far to much into it Fella. Its done for a laugh. He taking the piss out of himself nothing more.
In no way is it portraying the gradual decline of moral standards of this country
He's from Essex for Christ sake. They don't go that deep...
In reply to Post #377
In reply to Post #376 Its all done for effect mate , its called humour. Perhaps you should try it sometime....
In reply to Post #375 Really??
You think that the vids are better with that?
Well I was brought up with manners, and I'd be mortified if I ever ate like that, let alone filmed doing it.
But hey, I'm just an old fart, not " with it", what do manners matter.
And yes, I understand its just a fishing video, but FFS, we have surrendered so many of our cultural traditions and norms, can't we try and keep some of our manners.
Not having a rant, Kevin, just saying it spoils your great vids for me.
In reply to Post #374 Thats all part of the appeal of them ....
In reply to Post #373 Great videos, but please, please, please NO MORE footage of you / your mate eating like a pig! Open mouth, slopping your chops, food round your mouth, talking with your mouth full. Come on fella, you seem pretty switched on.
Great vids apart from.
First part is up on vimeo now for you tech heads who do links.
Edit: Just noticed Kevin has opened a new thread with all three parts.
In reply to Post #350 any news mate?
In reply to Post #370 I kept seeing this post and assumed it was just referring to the original couple of vids from 2012 then clicked the other day on the link and have been absolutely hooked on them!
These videos really sum up what it's all about! I know I will never get the chance to go to rainbow -Christ, I don't think I'd be able to handle it to tell the truth -but it gives you a real insight into what it's really like and why so many people hold it in such regard! As for the social side of it -I found myself laughing along with Kevin time and again leading to some VERY odd looks from the missus!
Keep em coming kev -look forward to seeing the footage from your next trip(s)!
In reply to Post #369 I don't think the DVD is the full version , Kev's is 4 hours plus , split over three parts. Arjen's is an edited version i believe. Gonna have to wait a couple more weeks i'm afraid.
In reply to Post #368 Lol whats it matter if there as been thousands of copys given away at the show with the magazine
In reply to Post #367 I could but I wouldn't as Arjen who runs Spiegel magazine is a mate..
In reply to Post #366 Can you not upload it on you tube
Looks like it's early March for the JRC DVD for the rest of you boys as it's being released in Germany first now.
Or you can have my copy.
In reply to Post #351 Hi kev, I was in 789 last may, love the videos, been an eventful couple of week s for Richard and craig on the island, strange weather all over!
Some of the best carp videos I've ever seen. It really gives you a feel for Rainbow and I can't wait for more. After what feels like a long break from fishing they have got me itching to get back on it.
Met Kev on Sunday at the show he came over and introduced himself on our stand, he looked as mad as a box of frog's with his backcombed hairdo he was on a flyer and off to the airport, also picked up a copy of the DVD off the Spiegel stand and watched it this morning.
Arjen's second 60lb common off the island swim is the one I had on the 4th of Jan this year up 7lb since he had it and the Dinosaur common was out to my mate the month before at 67lb up 3lb the next month at bang on 70lb phenomenal..

In reply to Post #361 Yea, met Kevin in Zwolle, can only say it was a pleasure meeting him.

In reply to Post #351 oops - duplicate post
In reply to Post #351 Please keep them coming Kev don't worry about the geography - as long as you can find your way home. Somehow you capture the true spirit of fishing without showing off, being patronising, or trying to sell stuff all the time.
Looking forward to watching it Kev as all the other videos have been good!
Excellent can't wait, when are you back out there Kev?

In reply to Post #349 Guys
Thanks again comments, Arjen will be giving away their edited version of my footage at the Zwolle show in Feb with his Spiegel magazine which I believe is their version of Carpworld, which approx. 90 mins long, have seen it and they have done an excellent job, and bear in mind they have to use copyright free music etc.
My vimeo upload will be up shortly afterwards, in three parts total approx 4 hours in usualk style and hope you enjoy it.
Looking back, been great experience meeting these lads, and was not sure how best to capture the week and same time promote some elements of their tackle, having reminded them before we went not to expect me up a tree for a week waiting for a Golden Eagle ( of which there are a few at Rainbow) to extract a fish from the waters surface, feel we have done a good job between us....you be the judges
Regards
Kev

In reply to Post #310 Kevins videos are getting better all the time... a truly unique style.
His cooking ability remains unenviable... stick to takeaways.
but his geography ... oh dear.
In reply to Post #346 I watched Part1 and 2, and thought Kev's presentation and the general feel for the videos was great, really enjoyed them.
Not my kind of fishing mind, and the fish did nothing for me.

There's a little taster clip on YouTube, the giants of rainbow lake.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4HC6UxN_JeY
In reply to Post #343 Sorry, yes to be clear, it is the arjen magazine. It was in some of kevs videos before.
He is the manager/editor.
Kev said recently that the JRC vids will be up on Vimeo in early Feb.
Only a few weeks to wait
In reply to Post #340 I would guess thats the magazine Arjen has something to do with going by a previous video of Kevins where they talk about/show a foriegn magazine?
Where can you buy this? Never heard of it, Good spot
In reply to Post #340 Good spot

Just seen on facebook there is a free dvd with Spiegel magazine called the giants of rainbow. Has jrc in the photo, says starring eric, arjen, kevin ellis to name a few.
Guess this is why its not on vimeo yet. They want to give it away free first for marketing reasons with the magazine.
In reply to Post #337 I have been checking the jrc website but nothing yet...may be the airbrushing in of jrc products is taking its time!?!

Anybody else have trouble playing this Vid???? Or was it just my connection???
Anyway apart from my stop start viewing. Another sterling effort from Mr Ellis.
Just a few query s Kevin. Who was that fella Skirting round the back of your house during your intro???
Glad your realising your vids are just a vailed advert for Solar Tackle.
And I'm beginning to realise why we haven't heard much from Dave Wibley wobbly since his Famous Five days.

Thanks comments, trip with Whibley in 21 last week will upload in week or so.
JRC trip from October is draft edited and with them, will certainly be on vimeo just awaiting their advise.
That's me done for the next few months, plan some Perch and Chub fishing now.
Thanks again boys.

In reply to Post #277 Superb videos they are, really capture the essence of fishing, especially in france with some pals. Looking forward to getting back to france next year! Would love to fish Rainbow though one day.
Fantastic videos Kev
In reply to Post #275 Kev's "I'm speaking to someone foreign voice" is a bit cringey. I can't believe how relaxed Eric is about hitting runs and maneuvering the boat, cool as a cucumber! Great videos though, I'm gonna have to give that a go one day!
In reply to Post #274 Noooo, never, when was this...
I heard he had a 76 mirror........
.... from Cassien back in the 80's
In reply to Post #272 Good news to hear as I love watching these , or basically how he does them , very informative and very entertaining
In reply to Post #271 yeah i had been checking jrc website or googling to see if it appeared elsewhere or was mentioned elsewhere.
Yeah i read him say he wont be posting it until they are happy and wish to launch the video online and would keep us posted on here when likely to be available.
This trip hes on now though is normal one he planned ages back, so presumably be up quick like usual... and for nothing of course
In reply to Post #268 Kevin did say the footage aas for jrc ....... so it was up to jrc if the video would be put on the forum .....he did not say it would be .................his november trip should be up in a couple of weeks ................cant wait m
In reply to Post #268 Besty easy fella... We will have them for nothing thank you..
In reply to Post #260 And worst of all. You get to share a cell with a load of mallet users.
In reply to Post #267 mmmmm i hear ya, the fears of most of us.
Its amazing though that a big company cant do all that and get it up by now. Think how quick this 1 man does his own editing etc.
Id rather pay some sort of online subscription fee and kev use the money to fund doing more videos on even more overseas waters. Amount of people that watch them, not just uk, is incredible. I know he has his koi stuff but would seriously have enough dough to help fund even more trips more regular, if thats what floated his boat of course
In reply to Post #266 They will be filling it full of adds and plugs I bet...
In reply to Post #264 wonder what jrc are actually doing with his other one.
Thought his videos were always edited well...
In reply to Post #264 Think he will as he has just had a 90lber
And who's to say he going to put a video up. He might not bother this time.
All I will say is.... the story continues.......it should be a very good video.
If anyone does really want to know what's happening this week FB has it all.
sorry I am one of the ones that agreed with the 4 posters before me that asked not to have spoilers.
How about stick a thread on catch results? Thats what the info is afterall.
Could be titled kevin ellis rainbow lake and then post them there? Could even put link here for it.
Whoever hears first will post there and help the ones that dont have facebook and want to know.
Noone on here can moan about spoiling the plot of the video then.
The ones that wanna know can look there
I only clicked this topic as a favourite so id get an alert when next video was up.
p.s. Seems some didnt get andys humour either
In reply to Post #259 An 85 lber
In reply to Post #259 No ones allowed to say or the forum police will lock you up for being a "spoiler" ..... I'll pm ya if you're that interested..
So what's Kevin caught.......
In reply to Post #254 Apparently he had.......
In reply to Post #254 Wonder how kev's getting on well
my guess is daves doing the cooking
i'll keep any captures to myself i think
In reply to Post #255 Think kelps knows but not allowed to say
Anybody got any news how Kev is getting on?
In reply to Post #252 All good my end.
I was actually trying to help by explaining it as clear as possible, as he clearly missed the hints by others for no spoilers even though they were the last posts
Now..now peoples. Lets play nicely.
In reply to Post #250 Not sure what the red face means? Were posts before you posted asking not to spoil it and keep info to yourselves
Already been said where to see his live catch info for those that want to know
In reply to Post #249 There you go ,,,, all better now!!!!!!!
In reply to Post #246 That was post 242 said but people dont want to know it. Its been edited so not to spoil it for others.
Better to watch his videos without knowing results.
In reply to Post #246 doh
In reply to Post #246 So much for no more spoliers
In reply to Post #242
In reply to Post #243 Motion seconded .... please keep the info to yourselves.
In reply to Post #242 Don't spoil it fellas....
In reply to Post #240 Cheers for that.
In reply to Post #239 Kevin Ellis it's his own profile page
In reply to Post #237 What's the Facebook page called?

In reply to Post #229 Now , now Wayne patients bud patients
Any idea when the next lot of videos are being put online Kevin........
In reply to Post #227 4 hours of my life definitely not waisted. This was very enjoyable and from a true carping perspective rather than a typical marketing ploy. Particularly enjoyed Dave Waite catching his pb roach at the end.... Well done fella! Lol Thank you very much, Kevin for the brilliantly edited footage, exceptional music and great overal perception of what this gave to the legendary Rainbow.
In reply to Post #226 Peter we are forever in your debt.
As long as the new vids include Kevin wiping gravy or ketchup off his face and looking worried about his number 'chins', I'm sure they will continue to be great viewing.
And just remember, guys, who shared the first Kevin Ellis video on the forum (me!).
In reply to Post #216
In absolute bits every time he films himself after eating

In reply to Post #216
I,m still waiting to see him wearing the trousers
Oh and also don,t forget the other chap is off to Thialand ...........................they might come calling
In reply to Post #216 im sure it will be fab Kev, dont think your imitable style will ever change, and i bet with the positive feedback you get you might feel a bit of pressure over making every one as good as the others, DONT you do the films for your own personal pleasure and capture of memories and shouldnt give a chuff what we all think, there yours not ours i just appreciate you sharing them, not sure the wife does though lol weve got to the ooh and ahh point without even looking up now from her book now. And if i do get the sack for wasting company time watching these at work will be searching you out for recompensation, personal sound boom man or chicken escolopteer whilst at rainbow lakes may just about cover it, i think a trial run prior to getting sacked would be a good thing, just so i can continue to watch in a relaxed manner knowing all the bases are covered.
good work keep sharing i love em thats for sure
Good to hear Kev, look forward to watching.
Glad to see you ain't prostituting yourself Kev...
Might make an exception if Birdseye come calling though.
A thousand and one way to eat a chicken escolope.
In reply to Post #216 Good to hear Kevin......
Will your November one be the same.....
In reply to Post #215 Guys
Rest assured have not sold my soul and video will be in three parts free for all and think you will find very similar to all my others, if not better.
Pure/JRC boys were also keen for this not to be an out and out promotional video, just a bunch of lads having fun, with some discussion on their tackle and having watched the footage today, think we have captured the mood and objectives perfectly.
Glad I did it as made new friends and learned a lot. Will keep you posted when likely to be available.
Regards
Kev
In reply to Post #212 Yes Sam, I know what you mean about the popularity of Kevin's videos being 'bought' but in all honesty we don't know what sort of 'sponsorship' has been put on the table or if there is any 'conditions' been set for the filming, let's hope for Kevin's sake it's plenty of the first and for our sake none of the last.
As you say mate we shall just have to see
In reply to Post #212 To be fair to Kev, if he can get more weeks on Rainbow because of his videos then fair play to him.
In reply to Post #212 He's sold his soul to the devil!! Lol
In reply to Post #210 Really not questioning the style of filming Andy mate as Im sure it will be as great as ever, just feel its a shame that something that started as a unique non commercial bit of filming, focusing on just one mans love for fishing, typicaly seems to end up being sucked into the commercial/product world, after its recieved a bit of a following! Didnt take long for the big guns to see the ££££ to be made from these vids..
However, im sure it will make great viewing, even with a product name and label now attatched to it..
if i hear words like koimunga ill be of ;-)
I'm sure Kevin's 'style' will still be very apparent in the JRC video, so in my view it will still be a very good watch. Let's hope it will still be available to all. Well done on a couple of 'Nifty's' Kev, look forward to watching your mid November trip video
No doubt we will see this trip sometime in the future. As that's what promotions all about.
Looking forward to your November trip vid Kev. Where we will hopefully get more of the same. With a Rainbow biggie or two hopefully.
In reply to Post #205 yep well done hollywood smile kev but must echo sam and fred with gutted is was not your own video as they are a pleasure to watch and was hoping for a showing next week for us armchair rainbow fans
In reply to Post #206 Spot on same here, those vids are a breath of fresh air.
I'm actually getting into the Koi ones
In reply to Post #205 well in Kev, hope you had a fab trip....
shame if your vids become subject to promotional jazz, where by other companys now have the ownership over what was initialy just you and a camera keeping it real.... to me that was the appeal in watching them
In reply to Post #204 Hi Guys
Just back from week in 19 , were six of us in Island, 21 and 19, I was doing a video for the JRC boys of Pure fishing, not so much a promotional video for them to their credit but my usual style, video is theirs to do with what they want so I wont be posting it until they happy and wish to launch the video online.
Was a great week, frustrating for me at times and had two fifties, but some amazing fish caught, and great bunch of lads as usual.
Am back in mid November and fishing with Whibley then.
Regards
Kev

In reply to Post #187 Any jobs going at your place kev? You must have more days off than a hypocondriac school teacher. Fair play to you though.
keep the vids up, the no nonsense, and lack of constant plugging and munga mix is a rarity nowadays.

Best one yet
Looking forward to seeing the Cassien video
Watched part three last night Kev. Could of got a part four out of that one. But i suppose you was in a rush to get back out there. Becoming a bit of a habit isn't it. Looking forward to the next installments Kev.
Showed another side to Rainbow aswell. Its not all extreme fishing. Line hooked up on poles and fishing round corners. There are swims where you can land them from the bank without the need for a boat. And its definitely not as hard as people make out is it.
And by the way. Have a break from all these Rainbow trips. And get this early Cassien footage online.
In reply to Post #172 Brilliant keep up the good work Kev

Lighthearted, funny and fishing related. The perfect tonic for an evening after work to help relax. Keep up the great work.

In reply to Post #131 How about a return to Cassien Kev. Might be a bit difficult now with the night fishing Ban mind. Would love tohear you tell us how you.caught that biggie all them years ago.from the actuall swim. That set you on the road to supper stardom.

In reply to Post #131 kev you videos are brilliantly entertaining, I cant wait for part 3. I love how you don't take yourself to seriously and it is just what it is, such a refreshing change from most carp/fishing films out there today keep up the good work fella!

In reply to Post #130 Andy
You meet like minded koi people who often are or have been anglers, I had little time to fish few years back, koi filled the void, then wife said she saw me more when I was fishing LOL. That said, I got into koi like carp fishing in the eighties...besotted.
Paul
Good summary of the Rainbow sentiment
Griggy
Raffles would never be an option, that's not what Rainbow about though appreciate you joking. I fish there through the good grace of others, and as a result made new friends which all part of the Rainbow ethos, and hope that is conveyed in the videos.
However, am keen to fish other places in France as I have done in the past and further afield, right now taking the opportunities whilst they come my way.

Kev

In reply to Post #124 fantastic Kev thoroughly enjoyed it have a bottle of red on the side ready for tomorrows part 3
and im also an excellent cook(yes join the que boys)
you ought to raffle of a trip with you £5 a ticket youd sell loads
thanks again and agree with horses for courses, not my kind of fishing but for a week it would be fabulous think most of us separate our foreign and uk fishing in our minds anyway

In reply to Post #121 Must admit the first time i went i felt i'm not sure i'm going to enjoy this type of fishing but i went and i was hooked i love the style of fishing and the lake itself is mind boggling i have fished many venues in france but for what i want from my own fishing rainbow is streets ahead what i mean by that is the expectation levels before you go and the buzz you get whilst your there only wish i could fish it more often but thats life
so if you get the oppertunity then give it a go you never know you might love it aswell
In reply to Post #118 9 languages eh? Fair play Kev.
I could tell by the accent in which you speak to some of the non British anglers on Rainbow that you had something about you
Great vids again though, and good to see you hauling on this last trip. Also - good to see you getting the angling hat back on.
Do you find after the years of the Koi keeping that it's changed anything you do with your fishing? Or are they a million miles apart in your mind?
In reply to Post #124 Interestingly I'm pretty sure I photographed a 45-50lb catfish 20+ years ago at Wintons for Jim Lightfoot. He struck me as a really nice guy back then. Good to see he hasn't changed!
Have you ever done any pop quizzes? You would be a scream!

In reply to Post #123 Enut
You entitled to your opinion and that's what the forums are for, long as kept polite, each to their own.
To get your rods out the water in some swims you need to get in the boat.
Rods are Fox Warrior 3.5IbTC, compound action compared with most.
Am looking forward to fishing with Dave Whibley, have known and fished with him at Darenth and Harrow in the 80's, top angler, he don't say much but with a few drinks will prise his secrets :-)
As for life jackets, could not agree more, they are essential, but, don't do as I do, do as your mum tells you, and put one on whatever the circumstance.

Kev

In reply to Post #122 what are them rods you use kev???

In reply to Post #121 Abuse no not at all , it's different strokes for different folks , I bet if most anglers on here were doing a vid of their exploits then they would be open to criticism .
As he says , it is what it is

In reply to Post #1 Entertaining videos with some very funny bits and some huge fish landed. Interesting that they all appeared to be using similar rigs!
As for the type of fishing personally I don't think it's my cup of tea. I wouldn't fish with 4 rods when you have to go out in a boat to stand any chance of landing a fish safely. Even 8 rods between 2 doubled up in a swim looks like you stand a good chance at some time of having to leave a fish to run unattended (with a bloody great barbed hook in its mouth and 80lb leader).
Also what about the bit where he leaves the rod tightened up and hope it tires itself out because it was too dangerous to go out in the boat in a storm? Surely if it's too dangerous to land a fish safely you get your baits out of the water?
I know that the anglers concerned are far more experienced in that sort of fishing than me and I fully expect to get flamed by other forum members but as I said, not for me.
If I'm not confident that I can land a fish safely then I won't fish for it. That goes for choice of venue as well as choice of swim. Not that I would ever get the opportunity to fish Rainbow.
(Finishes post and prepares to receive abuse....)

In reply to Post #117 Guys
Thanks to Karlos got me password back after years of being a member on here.
Thanks comments, much appreciated, and enjoy making and sharing the videos which began back in 1993 with a trip to The Orient.
Have lots of tapes that one day will transfer to digital, for now Rainbow videos keeping me busy, not since my Harrow days in the 80's have I been so compulsive with my fishing as Rainbow and really got me back into it though I don't think fishing left me, just got into koi past few years..
If it were not for Brooksy inviting me last June cant begin to think what I would have been missing.
My work ( am a language translater for International Monetary fund, G7 and MI5), speaking 9 languages fluently (in case you did not realise) am able to go Rainbow at short notice which helped me get back on there.
Will take on board some of the suggestions here and another forum and thanks again guys, enjoying the banter.

Kev

As everyone else says, awesome vids. Even the wife got into them and thought they were a decent watch.
Boy, I hadn't appreciated what type of challange raindow is.... looks a fascinating place and a great ethos/social attitude with the anglers. Some quite dry humour (I hope) with the naming on animals/trees/singers that by the end I was laughing at.
We ended up having look at some of the Koi vids...... fair play Kev, you've got some kit there.
And away how many times on boys trips a year? Rainbow, Cassien, Japan etc.... You've got it straightened right out!

yet again great vids by kev. He really captures what fishing is all about, I love the way he puts on a accent every time he speaks to anyone who isn't English lol makes me piss.

In reply to Post #38 wow is all i can say, these guys could teach Jeremy Wade a thing or 2, this is extreme angling and then some, never knew whatrainbow was like. now i do thank you
Loved his previous vids and this one didn't disappoint.
Was gonna do a quick overnighter last night but wimped out at the thought of lugging my gear around in the heat so sat at home and watched this lastest instalment.
Can really tell he's getting into the rainbow way of fishing compared to his first 2 vids.
Loved the banter and laughed out loud at the "frodo" comment and glad I'm not from Kent :-)
great video's all of them.
And even after hearing "I think the sun still rises in the east" for the 50th time in this one I still laughed :-) them bloody eagles keep following him about too
In reply to Post #35 great videos, really enjoyed wtching them, there bankside grub is better than i have at home lol

In reply to Post #34 Great viewing yet again from Kev, proper fishing, as it really is nothing staged great contributions from all the anglers. Thanks Kev looking forward to the next one. One question I would be interested in knowing what camera is used to produce these Oscar productions?
In reply to Post #33 Kev's "artistic licence" as a wannabe David Attenborough is one of his endearing characteristics......if you thought the oak tree comments were funny watch his videos to his previous trips.....he had golden eagles (probably kestrels) and baby magpies (wagtails).
Love his style....can't see myself sitting through hours of any other fishing video but am always hooked by his films, even watched some of his koi videos!
In reply to Post #32 very well filmed video
some of it was good , some of it was oh so bad and some of it was ..........not really sure
his mate is a good cook
and stop calling pine trees oak trees

Its 3 am and just finished watching that instalment of Rainbow , now these dvd,s i love watching.
Very enjoyable
In reply to Post #30 The bottles are used to keep as much line out the water as possible due to the snaggy nature of the water. As to how there attached im not sure. As to rods left in the water when both anglers are afloat you would imagine.any unintended rods would be wound in.
Love the videos really enjoyed watching them.
few questions though.
What are the bottles for and how are they set up?
I also noticed that sometimes the 2 of them went out in the boat on a few occasions who watches the other rods or are they all reeled in?

great soundtracks as well.

In reply to Post #24 Great vid, great to watch and honest. Very informative and love the other vids too. Love to see how other people get there buzz from fishing and the excitement we all have in common when it comes to getting a run even when we lose fish and go through the lows.
Comes across as a genuine bloke who loves his fishing. Cant wait to see more, keep up the good work

I went straight to the koi nerding blog, Quite an eye opener the filtration systems boiler, some serious set ups.
Interesting points raised about the poles/hooks, aid fishing around snags corners etc.
Certainly makes you want too wet a line.

In reply to Post #13 With respect, all I've done is stated a few facts..not rumours, not gossip or hearsay! At no point did i condone 'zig zagging' lines through islands as you put it.Simply running a line around a pole on the corner of an island to prevent the line catching or snagging on a root or stump is just a necessity at rainbow..most,if not ALL the rainbow anglers are extremely conscienscious regarding rigs, bait placement and care of the fish. The fact that you see that method as unsafe is entirely subjective, and i respect your opinion. You may cast to an overhanging tree on an island at your local lake..i could view this as unsafe..if you were fishing too tightly to it or using poor indication..again that would be my opinion, and subjective! All I'm saying is that the ratio of fish lost to fish landed at rainbow is incredibly low,due to experienced anglers using sometimes slightly unorthodox methods to extract fish from a very snaggy and extreme environment.Pascale the owner has developed a good understanding of the fishing on his lake( he's a trout angler) and both his sons are carp anglers,so they are fully aware of how the lake is fished. The fact that Pascale leaves the anglers alone during their stay is testament to the level of trust he puts in the visiting anglers to treat the fish with respect and fish safely.Like i said,I'm not 'dressing up' anything, just telling it how it is and trying to give a little insight into the extreme nature of the fishing.I fish a 55 acre water near my home which is entirely snag free but can be weedy..to be honest i see far more bad angling on there (crack offs, trailers, poorly tied rigs etc etc) than i've witnessed in over 100 nights at rainbow, despite all the information available to anglers how to fish safely.
In reply to Post #12 No matter what you say fella it won't change my view on whether zigzagging your lines around islands is safe or not, no matter how you try and dress it up as, just because you use a boat on there doesn't garrentee a fish will be landed, as I definately know not all fish are landed, your be surprised what people do know about the place, before making flippant comments saying they don't. I'm not saying it is but it could come accross especially what people put on the net nowdays as catching at all costs.

In reply to Post #11 Don't normally comment on here, but i'll make an exception on this post.I've fished rainbow quite a lot in the past 10 years or so,in fact long before it became as famous and popular as it is now.The lake has an area of around 110 acres, but has around 100 islands(possibly more than that,I've never counted) ranging from a few square feet to several acres in size. The lake was originally formed from a carbon mine which was allowed to flood,so the underwater topography is extreme to say the least..not in every swim, but as an example you could find a depth of say 3ft,then literally a boat length away,a depth of 15ft plus..so literally a sheer sided bar covered in stumps and old roots. This is commonplace all around the lake, with some swims more extreme than others, which necessitate the use of the boats for placing rigs and of course playing and landing fish. There are a large number of snags both above and below the surface, and these can be holding areas at certain times of the year. The fallen trees around the big islands tend to hold resident fish a lot of the time, and these can be fished very safely as you are fishing directly to the snag itself, with no angle involved.By fishing locked up,the takes nearly always eject the lead and it's a simple case of gently walking backwards and leading the fish into clear water, then playing them from the boat or bank. This rarely leads to a lost fish, and it's testament to the method used and the skill of the lads who fish there regularly that this is the case.A lot of the fishing at rainbow is actually open water fishing,on the tops or the slopes of the numerous bars in each swim.In all the nights I've spent at rainbow,i can hand on heart say that I've never seen anyone fishing directly into snags or placing rigs in dangerous areas. You need to understand that all the guys who fish there regularly tend to share information regarding terminal gear, rigs etc etc so everyone pretty much fishes in a similar fashion.Due to the snags and bars etc, strong gear is a necessity, but this in turn ensures that losses are kept to a minimum.Take a look through the pictures on the rainbow facebook page, and you'll see that pretty much ALL the fish have perfect mouths and unmarked bodies, due to the safe methods employed and care shown once landed. There are the odd one with a less than perfect mouth, but some get caught more than others..simple as that.As for the 'fishing round corners' comment...yes,this does go on in some swims due to the number of small islands present.By placing a pole on the corner of an island to run the line around into clear water behind it,i personally see no danger or problem with this. The fact that each swim is fished by two anglers, with a boat available just confounds my belief that this is in no way a dangerous method. The lads who fish rainbow tend to be experienced anglers who've fished a variety of venues, and understand how to fish the lake safely..this comes from experience, and if you were ever to fish there yourself you'd understand this very quickly. So much negative stuff has been written in the past by people who A) have never been there, and B) are not in posession of the facts regarding the layout of the lake and swims, that it leads to flippent comments and posts such as yours. There are no 'stunts' going on,it's simply experienced anglers using different methods to the norm to ensure they are fishing an extreme environment in the safest ways possible. You simply can't compare rainbow to your 'local',or indeed any other lake..it's completely unique in its topography and make up...I've fished all over France,Belgium,Holland, since i was 16 (i'm now 40) and i've never fished another venue like it.Hope this post explains a few things..cheers,Mike

In reply to Post #10 How are they allowed to get away with fishing like that?? I also have seen on YouTube various other stunts on rainbow with people using poles so they can fish round snags etc. I know if I tried that on my local I would be chucked off, and rightly so these people are fishing for some of the biggest carp in europe. I hear people comment that the owner is a really nice bloke, not surprised they are saying that if they are allowed to get away with stunts like that.
