If you can afford it, then do it.

Ten + years of Tory rule has brought the NHS (and many other social services funded through our taxes) to it's knees.

Had years of knee giving way and only wish I had kept mithering the NHS much more than what I originally did because once I began to then it was about 12 months thereafter that I had an operation.

Diagnosis. Torn meniscus. Operated on and no problems since which was around 7-8 years ago.

I used to work nights and get up out of bed and fall over as my knee would crack and give way. I always went up the hospital (recorded for absentee purposes too) and would lay the pain on thick and fast (was painful anyway and would knock me sick) because without doing that then youíd never get sorted.

Was carried out privately but funded by the NHS, carried out in a private hospital by a surgeon who also works for the NHS.

Very true, the surgeon I eventually saw about my knees said if you had paid you would have seen me a year earlier. Nothing he could do for me unfortunately, and I never even got a believable explanation of how I could do a sub 3 hour London to Brighton in June, be even fitter by September, then have to lock my knees and rock my hips to take a flight of stairs by december

When going private the chances is it will be the same surgeon providing the treatment as it would be on the NHS just doing it on overtime.

The way I see it, if you are 50, I am assuming, forgive me youíre not yet retired?

If this persistent pain is effective your ability to work, then the longer itís left, the more of a financial consequence there may be and as such, private would in effect be limiting that. Have you been quoted for the operation? Frequently the NHS is paying private practice to alleviate waiting times etc could this be an. Option?

Sorry to hear of your circumstance

I was the same, doctor after doctor, nothing wrong with your really, well I wouldnít be here if there wasnít would I you cock. In the end I said **** it, I would see a specialist. Saw the specialist, main man in the department at the time, paid for the consultation myself but he got me though on the NHS, on a cancellation at the time

Maybe worth a try?

1725,it's wrong mate on all levels..you've paid all your life into a system that's corrupt and supports people that have paid nothing ..

The gap widens between the haves and have nots, the elites in what ever shape or form progress, I see it every day ..

In another sphere,2.5 million pound houses ,locals on the breadline, second homes rule..

Homelessness everywhere, many through no fault of their own..

Broken Britain, greedy corrupt system ..and still more people coming into this small overpopulated island..

It's what the elites want, servitude and control by fear, fear of no money ,or job ,or health provision, fear and scaremongering..!

I hope you sort your knee out mate..

Itís terrible the way things are
I shouldnít have to pay with the taxes Iíve paid over the years, Worked since the day I left school and hardly been off work
Never been off with my knee but seen folk going off with less and wonder whoís right.
Never really needed doctors help until last couple off years (now 50) I canít get an appointment and me being asked afterwards where I want referred to after MRI results
Howís someone supposed to know that for someone whoís never bothered about anything before
Was told it will be about 12 months wait on NHS
But you can get sorted in 6 weeks for paying.

Thatís the standard technique of privatization: defund, make sure things donít work, people get angry, you hand it over to private capital.

Noam Chomsky,

Thanks for the replies
Iíve already had a phone consultation and have a face to face appointment week after next
If i agree to whatís needed at next appointment it will be 6 weeks i was told yesterday
They can have access to my x-ray/mri scan results
Doctors been an absolute waste of time, canít believe Iíve had to basically force them to make a appointment and then end up at hospital because I couldnít be seen by a Gp
Looking at 4.5k up to 15k for knee replacement hopefully donít need that
Wife had a bit of a shock a cost but said I understand with what youíve gone/going through
Thanks again

If money allows,I'd definitely go private, there's nothing worse than a long term injury and associated pain..which if left untreated could be made worse..

I had an injury, the NHS ,was very very poor ,the dithering made the situation worse..I went private, cost £145, for an xray, three short £30 sessions afterwards, plus I didn't need a operation like I was initially told..luckily ,I was able to exercise my way out of the issue..but others may not have been so lucky..

I thought the NHS was meant to be accessible to all,but nowadays ,this is not the case..and as a side note,I hear of someone local to us ,who died of cancer, through late diagnosis ,ie the doctors refused to look at them,...but that's another issue..

I will say one thing ,a lot of people have lost faith in the NHS,they good at doing tic tok dance moves though..
