In reply to Post #1 for the supple element, have a look at kryston no tangle - has worked well for me.

In reply to Post #2 Sounds like a similar rig to what I'm using. I'll try a pva stick over the soft section. Thanks.

In reply to Post #1 I use a short soft section of 15 to 30mm and while I know the palm test is not a 100% guide but with the right hook and kicker my rigs turn and catch my skin every time.

In reply to Post #1 I use around 1/3 of the length of the stiffer section, so probably 70mm of Kryston Merlin to 140mm of Amnesia.
I don't use rig foam, nor corn chips, instead I use a stringer or mesh stick.
Feather the cast, and even with no PVA it kicks the hookbait away from the mainline.

If you use combi rigs, what is the preferred length of the soft section?
I like a soft section on the long side so with a wafter bait on it lifts easily into the carp mouth. However this makes tangles more likely so I use rig foam to reduce the chances of a tangle. This cuts down distance and accuracy..is a very short soft section a worthwhile option. To me it just seems wrong. Might as well use a German rig. Opinions please.
