Ive used an original emblem spod since they came out and never once had a problem there bullet proof. If it aint broke dont try to fix it. I dont carp fish anymore but now use it for spoppers on the trent so its constantly chucking out up to 12 ounces now and still performs the same as the day i got it.

Yes my emblem spod is over 10 years old and has been very good, the only issue if you can call it an issue is i have bent the bail arm a couple of times through my own misuse, quick bend back into place and away it goes again

That is a strange one with the emblem, I'd guess its got a bent bail arm as I've not had that ever.
The aerlex on the other hand.........

Funny I've never had one reel ever seize up since i started fishing as a wee boy. Them wychwood spods have taken some serious abuse, getting dunked in water every session Ive used etc as well. may my luck continue

Had two wychwood spod reels and had they both seize solid.

Iíve got the cross cast spod reel and had no issues with it.

Reels are personal choice and I think the Daiwa Emblem spod is a marmite thing. Each to their own.
However I'm really surprised you had this problem with the bail arm. The reel has a cast lock mechanism to prevent this and I have never had it happen in years of use. Also fitted with the auto cast button to ensure perfect pickup.

I use a Shimano XTA 7000 spod reel on both my 9ft and 12ft set ups.

Does the job and although discontinued, it can be picked up off ebay from time to time for about 50-70 pound.

Had an emblem spod, hated it, heavy cumbersome thing which if the bailarm wasn't I the perfect place snapped back over on some casts resulting in a crack off or two.

Had the wychwood dispatch, quite good for the money, little niggly thing like handle coming lose every other cast though.

That got stolen and I've just bought an avid xr spod marker reel and yet to loaf it with braid but has a massive 138cm retrieve!...feels pretty solid and well made only time will tell if it lasts. I paid 60 quid from go outdoors.

Daiwa emblem spod reel. Had 2 for prob 10 years now. Other than a bent bail arm which I did they have been faultless.
