Shhhh you will blow it haha totally agree about the bottom baits I do drill a tiny bit out and plug with cork not enough to make it a wafter just a slow sinker that when sucked up moves back faster than the carp are expecting

I tried this over clear silt ,long before the Ronnie rig became mainstream
Dropped it after a couple of attempts, thereís better presentations as already said
Although it does work, I just wasnít happy when undertow became apparent
Itís funny how names stick , I doubt Ronnie or roddy invented either 😂

Just read this...would not use the Roddie rig...but....been using chods all year...winter, spring , summer.
not fishing anything else at he moment, and havent used another rig.
Over all types of bottoms, clear , weedy, etc...haven't had allot of blanks either , I love a chod rig and have massive confidence in it...;-)

I had a couple of good fish last week on a very weedy lake on simple bottom baits straight out of the bag.

The fish had cleaned up areas of the lakebed, eaten and dug out the weed. Find those clear spots, (full of natural food), put a simple rig on them and catch.

I have not caught a single carp on pop-ups there, fishing Ronnie rigs, only bottom baits have worked for me.

I agree, absolutely horrible rig. Chuck a bottom bait out, you wont look back. Very out of vogue is the bottom bait, thats why it works.

I agree. The Roddie Rig takes all of the Chod Rigs multiple flaws and makes them much worse. Whoever came up with it is a bit of a tool imo.
The Chod is amazing for getting bites from areas that cannot be fished using any other rig. It's awful for anything else. The Roddy is worse.
Cannot get my head round why anyone would chuck one out.

Well a chod on a boom is a hinged stiff so yes they already are but some fish them directly on leadcore itís called the roddie personally I think it will lead to a lot of hook pulls

Not tried this myself but just had a thought are people fishing Ronnie set up on a chod boom instead of the normal chod rig?

What are your thoughts?

Cheers
