Know you've got it sorted but a couple more bits of info that may help others.
The generic code readers are OK but will not necessarily always give the correct codes nor provide the detail to what those codes actually mean. They may also struggle to clear some codes. However for £12 they're definitely worth a go.
For Ford vehicles I'd recommend the Forscan software (free download available for private use) and the appropriate cable, got mine from Amazon around £20
Peugeot\Citroen are a real pain in the ass, in the end I used the Diagbox software and had to get the Lexxia cable from Aliexpress at £60!!

In reply to Post #1 I have this one, works well, the thing to remember is when
you plug it into the car DON'T put the ignition key in, then go to
the menu to read the codes, after that clear the code/s, I learnt
the hard way....kept putting the key in.
EDIT
My one is foe a Merc ML350 sport, I think they are car specific.

In reply to Post #7 I think the vgate is just a wifi adapter that plugs into the obd2 port. It connects to a wifi device, such as an iphone, and you can download apps to read the data. You can also get apps specific to certain cars which can adjust stuff in the ecu. I have bimmertec for my car, and use it through the vgate adaptor. I have been able to turn the stop start function off, change certain things on the display, set the mirrors to fold automatically when the car is locked/unlocked etc. My vgate cost about £20 from amazon. The app was about £45, but turning the stop start off was worth it on its own

In reply to Post #1 If you still got the Seat i would get a VAG specific reader. My son has a Skoda and i got him a Vgate reader off Ebay

In reply to Post #1 I got this one LINK
Only used it once a couple of years ago, seemed to be ok. I've not compared it to a professional on though
The ebays reviews are mostly good, probably ok for the occasional diy user.
