Anyone been using the Quailty Baits Shellfish sense appeal? How would you rate it compared to the original? 3ml of that and 7ml of regular was a classic combo.

Apologies I've just been on the QB Web site and they do sell sense appeal alternatives, never seen those on there before, I'll definitely have to try some next time I order.

From memory the dose for Rods original regular sense appeal was up to 10ml per six eggs but it is a long time since I picked up a bottle.

Interesting, none of the crab flavours I've tried, not many actually, have smelt like the SSA, although I have smelt one a friend had was similar but the guy didn't know who sold it him.

I think sealine is correct it was originally a liquid food with a little flavour, anecdotally that liquid was liverade, which I tend to believe because Nash included it on the ingredients list on the labels of the later square bottles.

The last version just listed liver and crab flavours but it still worked for me hence why I thought I would try and copy it.

Thanks for the tip, I will have to see if I can get some of the nutrabaits crab

Being an avid fan of shellfish sense appeal for decades, now that the Nash, Hutchy and Catchit ones seem to be nothing like the original, I stumbled upon, believe it or not and dont shoot me down, Nutrabaits Crab flavour! Now I know this is sold purely as a flavour rather than a liquid food, but if youre after the actual smell, trust me this is identical, to my nose anyway. So much so, I now have 5 bottles of it in the cupboard!

Sense appeal as sold By Rod was not a flavour, it is a supplement/attractor liquid ,Rod did not make it he purchased and then bottled and sold it ,to increase its attraction to customers, he added flavours and created different versions.
Unless you know what the base liquid was to start with to which to add the different flavours too, a flavour company is not likely to produce the original product or anything on the same lines. AS it is not a flavour or designated a flavour all of the original ingredients are present as they were when Rod discovered this very attractive (to carp ) liquid
If you know what the base liquid is you have the means to supply it to any one interested to make what ever version they like.
How did Simon find out what the liquid is ? Where it comes from? Is his business.
Qualitybaits have it on their web site very attractively priced.

Cannot answer your question re the catchit SSA, but I've been playing around with some flavours and I have come up with a combination that smells very similar to the last but one version of the Nash SSA, the last one that included liverade on the ingredients list.

I used 50% catchit liverade sense appeal, 30% catchit monster crab and 20% premier baits prawn

It's not a perfect match, but I think it is close enough. On the grounds I'm down to my last bottle of the Nash SSA it's soon going to be all I have.

Not sure there is a modern equivalent, once certain ingredients are removed or changed they never seem the same.

I used to love some of the flavours & additives that Rod Hutchinson sold but when things changed I left them well alone and moved onto to other ideas.

I wasn't aware that QB sold a sense appeal equivalent, they have a product, LiquiStim, that is supposed to be the same as the CC Moore Feedstim XP, I doubt it is a direct copy but both to my nose are based on Braggs Aminos which you can buy from Holland and Barrett.

Good to know Apples, it certainly seems closer from my memory to the original and to be fair it gets plenty of bites which at the end of the day is all that counts..

Used to use hutchies amino blend supreme (abs) which I found to be a fantastic addition to meaty/fishmeal baits. Similar to modern day versions of sense appeal the copies are not a touch on the original due to EU laws and certain ingredients being banned!!

So, the Catchit Liverade/Sense Appeal certainly isn't the same as the original Liverade nor is it anything like Sense Appeal as I remember it. The smell (to a human!) is quite underwhelming and the taste is quite sharp, lingering on the tongue for some time. I am not sure if this is a liquid food or a pure flavour. I haven't tested the pH but I amguessing it is quite acidic as there is a slight loss of sensation on tongue and lips. (OK, I know we're not supposed to taste it but I give every liquid attitive/attractor the taste test).

All in all, first impressions are not 'oh wow that's sensational'. However, I have left the bottle open on my desk as I am typing this and there is a definite meaty, liver-y sort of smell wafting about...which I guess isn't the most conclusive of tests!

I guess the proof will be in the baiting but initially an additive has to instill confience in me right from the off, and this one doesn't do that. Time will tell.

Spoken with someone that works for Hutchy (Not just sponsored!) And he says it's as close as they can get to the original, but changes in law/ regulations means it's not the same

I was hoping Sealine was going to come good and spill the beans on where to get it, I would dearly love to get my hands on some.. I do use the RH shellfish sense appeal in one of my baits, which I prefer to the catchit and feedstim versions, and i do use it at very high levels so get through quite a lot (hookbaits only)..

It's more like a flavour. I bought 100 mil to see what it's like. The recommended dosages are very similar to that of a flavour, definitely not 25mil per mix!

Don't think it's the same as the original which I believe was from a company called Feed Flavours, an agri business, as were many sources back in the day.

That said, I have just ordered a litre, co if it is the same we used to use it at 25ml/10oz mix!

Liverade...Now there was a great flavour. It might not have been Sense Appeal as has been posted but Rod used to sell it out of the boot of his motor in the Savay car park. The Savay connection was important if you wanted to get on it . Most of the Looney Rota and a fair few Toads got in it, and my mate Speedy got me a couple of litres. Boy! did it ever put fish on the bank. Old timers on here may recall an Angling Times headline along the lines of, "Huge Mirror for Keith" (a Harrow 43lb mirror for Keith the Tooth). There was also a splash sub head saying, "there's a bigger one inside". It was a middle double page splash of Ritchie's capture of Basil at 45lb and ounces. I could be wrong (but I bet I am not) that both fish fell to Liverade. Wish I could get hold of it now!

What is really interesting is that the bit that is the main Fish attractor in Sense Appeal is the bit in the Goo that is not mentioned ,the dye catches the punter and the other bit catches the Fish, nothing new Rod knew about it years ago.

Sense Appeal or Liverade (tradename) in its original form is a very highly concentrated liquid. I still used to be able to buy it a few years ago but I have completely forgot the company I purchased it from. It came in aluminium flasks and had to watered down with propylene glycol and water to the correct strength. I also remember getting a lovely cheese one from them as well.

Regular Sense Appeal.

I used to use Rod's and later to a lesser extent Nash versions.

What were these based on?

Is there any modern day equivalent?
