As mentioned, I wouldn't go too close to float. Always found about 5' in deeper water.

Korda recommend 6 ft for their kit. In shallower water 10-15ft I go to 4ft. I don't want the bait too near the float. 10ft or less I don't use adjustables. Sure there will be plenty of other ideas.

When I use my adjustable zig float, I always tie the hook link section as some measurement on my rods like from reel knuckle to butt ring. That way, I cast, let out line until float is visible on surface, then put my rod on rest. Then reel down until float just dissapears. Then you can pinch your line at the butt ring with one hand and reel with the other until you hit the reel knuckle and you know your hook as bang on surface. Then simply reel down however far under surface you want to fish.

Just bought a zig float today, what length is the best length to use from the top of the float to the hook?
