have used it straight through for over 10 years - never had any issues and didn't notice extra mouth damage - it's all about practice IMO - it may take a couple of sessions to get used to it but once you're there it's like riding a bike.

In reply to Post #9 Never had line twist with braid
I almost always play fish off the clutch with braid and I've never had line twist either.

In reply to Post #8 Never had line twist with braid
Anyway as mentioned, just get into the habit of slackening the clutch for the last 'hairy under the rod tip' bit of the fight, any sudden lunges are then taken care of

In reply to Post #1 I use braided line to an unleaded short leader tied on with a palomar. My setup is 13ft tx2 intensity rods and yes, you need to cushion sudden lunges as you feel them so much more with braid mainline. I don't use the clutch as this just twists the line up badly and just keep the rod up and back wind when needed.

In reply to Post #6 I used too but found I lost a load of fish. Once I added two rod lengths of mono no problems, however, you have to remember braid straight throw is hard to break if you become snagged, etc.

In reply to Post #5 I dont know,it was more aimed at the clutch being set tbh

In reply to Post #4 Tbh when under the rod tip, how much stretch is there in 12ft of mono?

In reply to Post #1 I fish it straight through to a lead free leader, avid pin down, I think aslong as your not fishing broom sticks and have the clutch set accordingly then its fine,it's them lunges under the rod tip you have to be careful of in my view.

In reply to Post #2 I used braided Mainline for many years up until my current lake which doesn’t allow it. I fished it straight through to lead core leader and never had any issue 👍

In reply to Post #1 I do yes

Does anyone else fish braided mainline straight through to a lead core leader or other form of leader, i've
been experimenting and have had no issues at all playing fish using this method, i found taking away my few meters of fluro that i used to set up with has made no difference and i have one less joining knot to not worry about!
