Cliques are another one, pathetic people, safety in numbers and the easiest way to big yourself up is to pull others down

Personally I wish they’d all take up golf instead. But then again you can’t fluke out an under par round and brag about it for months on end.

That has a LOT to do with it mate. Said it many a time, there is no real measure to the “sport” other than a picture. They say a picture can tell a thousand words but in my carp fishing experiences it can tell a thousand lies too!

How many times have you seen a picture of a fish and the captor has said the biggest load of bollox you have ever heard, yeah, I fished a campaign (pub chuck and he had a bit of luck), yeah I put some effort in (he punished it for 5 years, never understood the water or the fish and caught a couple of decent fish). Then somebody knows the real story and calls them out. That’s when all the fun starts. Green eyed monster etc lol, nope, you are a liar, and that’s the truth!

There are a LOT of liars and bull****ters trying to make a name for themselves amongst the genuine folk and that’s the problem, they tell untruths for one reason, they are looking for merit that does not or should not exist and they are doing it to polish their ego’s and seek their 5 minutes of fame otherwise they would not do it, it’s that simple. Cliques are another one, pathetic people, safety in numbers and the easiest way to big yourself up is to pull others down

Good post. My time is really limited these days due to number of factors, but for the time I have, I think I do OK. I don't feel the need to compare my results to anyone. I just go and enjoy.

I had a really good week's fishing in France about 5 years ago. Not gonna say anything about what I caught, but I was worried about how those catches could affect my fishing at home. If anything, catching a few hippos freed me. I now care much less about the size of fish and just enjoy being there and doing it much more. If I catch, great. If I don't, they'll be there the next time.... and the next.

What saddens me is how this “you ain’t worthy” or “your captures are meaningless” attitude has come about. Why do all these cretins feel that they have to judge someone else’s captures merits against theirs.

I can give you an example. I sold some hookbaits to a lad who said he’d message me if he caught a PB. I said to him why does it have to be a PB? I’d be happy to hear about anything you catch. If you catch a few fish and it’s one pound under your PB, is that capture somehow meaningless?

Youngsters seem to get mocked if they aren’t catching 40s all day. I still think of a 20 as a big fish.

I’m sure this is meant to be an enjoyable hobby isn’t it? It seems these hamptons want to turn it into a pi@@ing contest all the time. Personally I wish they’d all take up golf instead. But then again you can’t fluke out an under par round and brag about it for months on end.
