it is a reflection of society, but mainly a male reflection.

Like everyday life there are very nice people and there are ****s, but most fall in the middle ground.

We have all met the likes who are full of themselves, the bolshy shop steward, the shouter at rallies and the generally obnoxious **** down the pub. Their own life is inadequate, they are failures and they are failing in what they believe their position in life should be. Belittling, bullying and a false impression of their importance manifest in their comments and abuse

Just ignore them, carry on and get on with life

Social media is a scourge on society which gives cowards in real life a cover to shout from with some impunity! Fake names are a safety blanket and body armour.

Why do we need to make the forum somewhere to moan about Facebook? If everyone on here is so elevated with their experience and knowledge over the kids on social media why do they use it?

The simple answer is unless you have a vested interest to reach the masses on social media (like trying to flog flavoured balls) donít bother with it if you donít like it.

There is a reason people get bad press

The main reason being is how you conduct yourself while on the Bank, the difference with the likes of Tel is they are highly disciplined, focused when fishing, the vast majority of anglers are the same.

Itís the ones who think going Carp Fishing is an excuse for a right old Jolly that appear to be the problem

Iím talking about the hypocrisy of those looking down their nose at people who listen to certain music, use recreational drugs, spend every waking hour fishing etc.

He is one of the most successful carp anglers over the last 2 or 3 decades, like it or not, target fish after target fish after target fish. The time element comes with carp fishing, the difference is some people know what they are doing and can utilize the time, others have not got a ****ing clue. At the end of the day criticism is easy. You still must catch the fish, thatís the difference, the key point and the difference between a good angler and a bull****ter

As for his videos, second to none that I have seen, the right balance of everything for me. I think he portrays the pastime beautifully, makes me want to go fishing, inspirational, how it should be for me

Whatís the flip side of the coin, a raving mong who canít even talk correctly trying to scrounge a free packet of hooks or plug another bait company with a couple of average fish a year. Light years behind, how you present yourself is everything

Thank god we have choices eh, we can turn them off

There is a reason people get bad press

Totally agree.

I recently put a post up on fb on farlows site, some lad caught a nice fish and someone from cypography was there and took his pic. I merely stated, as good as the pic was, Iíd have thought it would have been better, as it was taken by a pro. Meant no dig but the replies I got Someone (usual behaviour) found a pic from about 10yrs ago to try and contradict my statement, wouldnít mind but they must have scrolled through loads of decent pics to find that one. Does make you laugh

Iíd argue I was at the right ones but it was a joke, not a criticism. I couldnít see anything that wasnít female shaped through my dilated pupils anyway.
In our inevitable quarterly ranting threads the cable knit and soppy hats, alien substance use, southern lingo, modern music and even god forbid folded reel handles always get a mention. So is it memory loss or hypocrisy because itís nothing new and the pioneers of it are put on a pedestal as role models.
Basically the north hate the south, the old hate the young, the poor hate the rich, the teetotal hate those who dabble etc.
If we had a thread on what people actually like itíd either be left with no replies or revert to moaning again

I think we need a reality check. Found this. Everything what is right about this magnificent pastime that we become addicted too. One of, if not the finest carp anglers of the last few decades. No bull****, just the facts. Would you believe it, even he blanks!

Reality check

One word, immense

I just watch him with a big smile on my face shaking my head, passion evident throughout and a stunner after a stunner

Back to the sad reality of carpfishing as we know it with a bang!

Donít be a knob. Watch the great man, how the **** can people get it so wrong

Totally agree Jamie regards ML algorithm's and the consequences. Tailoring news to your views is a dangerous road, might look great to the marketing titans but has and is clearly being abused by some for division and self promotion.

I still think it's what you make it.

People seem to forget that social media allows you to choose what you see, react to or participate in - no one is forcing you into anything and it is your choice to react. All of these platforms work on addiction and are there trying to keep you on the sites for as long as possible and they show you posts to make you react so you stay on the platform longer - I have no doubt that this contributed to the rise of extreme right and left wing political views across the world - more people being exposed on SM via the ML algorithms placing content in front of people.

I binned FB as I realised that I got absolutely nothing from it - Instagram is now just used as a place to host my fishing pictures and laugh with mates instead of a photo gallery on my bookshelf.

It's easy to get sucked in but my life became a lot happier when I spent less time on my phone / in front of a screen.

I remember watching Jack Hargreaves 'Old Country' on a black and white TV sat crossed legged on the carpet as a 9 year old, that for me was and still is the essence of angling. I still watch them now on YouTube.

These days its white trainers, hair gel and words like 'Buzzing', whatever the ---- that means.

My first thought these days when tipping up to a lake is how far away I can get from the idiots.

All too common with social media and also forums... Keeping your trusted circle extremely small is the only way... And knowing who to tell what... Most carp anglers canít hold their own urine... As for pictures/publicity on social media, to each their own but for me itís chip paper carping for likes... Thereís absolutely zero soul in it...

This happened on a golf course lake I used to fish.I can't blame it on young lads though as it was a bloke in his 50s who set up a Facebook page.It went from having a group of lads who kept it quiet and just enjoyed the fishing to an absolute circus.I will never fish it again,it was good while it lasted

Facebook carpers have ruined two local lakes near me they were rarely fished only a handful of us new about them. there were no monsters in there but they were lovely little lakes with some stunning carp in them. A young lad joined a couple of years back and with in one season every one new about the lakes and the fish in there and now they are rammed most weekends and pretty much every fish that gets caught is posted all over facebook and the club forum. Why expose them to everyone why not just enjoy the place and the captures to your self.

sadly, carpfishing is 99% full of complete TW&T's that have nothing to offer, can in no way add value but are self confessed "experts" cause they are in some S***ty "promo team" for some tin pot company, or even better, they may be a "team member" ....quite what the difference is i'll never know, but normally they have longer and browner tongues

Then you have the real privileged experts...these are called consultants, and these are a very special breed and will easily be fooled with a free beanie, or even a hoodie and do anything for these precious gems and protect their "gems" with every fat finger they have on social media... yet i doubt they even know what the word "consult" actually means

I still think of a 20 as a big fish.

It is a still big fish now, IMHO.
Back in the day, when the TOTAL AMOUNT of any 40's across the whole of the UK could be counted on 2 hands. WOW.

Youngsters, wannabe instagram, faceache, utube vloggers, etc, nowadays haven't a clue how lucky they are, for easy access to decent carp fishing
Or just haven't got a clue ( delete as appropriate )

Personally I wish theyíd all take up golf instead. But then again you canít fluke out an under par round and brag about it for months on end.

That has a LOT to do with it mate. Said it many a time, there is no real measure to the ďsportĒ other than a picture. They say a picture can tell a thousand words but in my carp fishing experiences it can tell a thousand lies too!

How many times have you seen a picture of a fish and the captor has said the biggest load of bollox you have ever heard, yeah, I fished a campaign (pub chuck and he had a bit of luck), yeah I put some effort in (he punished it for 5 years, never understood the water or the fish and caught a couple of decent fish). Then somebody knows the real story and calls them out. Thatís when all the fun starts. Green eyed monster etc lol, nope, you are a liar, and thatís the truth!

There are a LOT of liars and bull****ters trying to make a name for themselves amongst the genuine folk and thatís the problem, they tell untruths for one reason, they are looking for merit that does not or should not exist and they are doing it to polish their egoís and seek their 5 minutes of fame otherwise they would not do it, itís that simple. Cliques are another one, pathetic people, safety in numbers and the easiest way to big yourself up is to pull others down

Good post. My time is really limited these days due to number of factors, but for the time I have, I think I do OK. I don't feel the need to compare my results to anyone. I just go and enjoy.

I had a really good week's fishing in France about 5 years ago. Not gonna say anything about what I caught, but I was worried about how those catches could affect my fishing at home. If anything, catching a few hippos freed me. I now care much less about the size of fish and just enjoy being there and doing it much more. If I catch, great. If I don't, they'll be there the next time.... and the next.

What saddens me is how this ďyou ainít worthyĒ or ďyour captures are meaninglessĒ attitude has come about. Why do all these cretins feel that they have to judge someone elseís captures merits against theirs.

I can give you an example. I sold some hookbaits to a lad who said heíd message me if he caught a PB. I said to him why does it have to be a PB? Iíd be happy to hear about anything you catch. If you catch a few fish and itís one pound under your PB, is that capture somehow meaningless?

Youngsters seem to get mocked if they arenít catching 40s all day. I still think of a 20 as a big fish.

Iím sure this is meant to be an enjoyable hobby isnít it? It seems these hamptons want to turn it into a pi@@ing contest all the time. Personally I wish theyíd all take up golf instead. But then again you canít fluke out an under par round and brag about it for months on end.

It's comical mate, the last 5 years in Carp Fishing has been a joke. Somebody summed it up in this thread. It has become a breeding ground for ****wits that are trying to re-invent themselves with carp fishing being the perfect scenario. Bone idle, work shy tramps loafing around lakes all day sucking up benefits amidst talking ***** about everyone and anything thinking they are the next Terry Hearn / oracle of carp fishing. He said......she said...you heard about.......**** Off....

I'm still confused where the coin comes from to furnish 4/5 days a week on a pond, driving around in spanking tranporters and dollars worth of kit.

Then you have mouthpieces rinsing blokes on vlogs and youtube homemade crappy videos, casting aspersions across a syndicate of mainly decent working class blokes with some little oik calling them noddies......WTF is going on with this carp fishing lark, hahaa,

Ah well - lunch break rant over.....back to the tools.

Be lucky.

I wouldn't say unlucky. More that it was a culture that I found very uncomfortable. On my first day at the second place I was shown and offered cocaine! I'd never even seen the drug before, let alone bought and taken it. It was the norm there, everybody did drugs. The company dealt with it after I complained to be fair to then but it was more a case that the bigger 'name' you were, the more they turned a blind eye to it.

Anyway I'm not here to moan about what used to go on. I'm no longer affiliated with anybody at either business. I was just giving an account on what I'd experienced in angling. I'm just glad I put it to bed and picked my rods up again

Ditto

As soon as the weather warms up out comes my pair of 1950ís era Hardy Palaconias paired with Abu Cardinal 54ís.
I only use them on two private still waters and a private river beat, thatís probably why Iíve found just the opposite reaction to them Ė nothing but questions and genuine interest in the history of everything.

I have to go and explain, that the shorter Rod trend is nothing new as they are 9ft 6Ē, same with the all metal winch type Reels seat as they were fitted as standard in the 50ís, and then explain why some whippings are Copper wire, and the self alignment pins that align the Rod sections precisely for you, the pocket full of elastic bands you use as casting stops, as the Reels donít have any line clips etc..........

Thatís not been my experience of working at shows at all. I canít help feeling that Iím missing out. You donít know if those companies have any vacancies do you? :-)

On a serious note you must have been pretty unlucky. Our hotel at the northern last year had Jag,DNA,Sticky, I think Solar plus a load of other companies. The bar was packed in the evenings but there wasnít any behaviour like that going on. It was great fun with all the staff from the different companies mixing in and having a bit of a laugh with each other but Iíve never witnessed anything like that. Certainly none of the stuff you witnessed.

Sadly your experience at the first lake you fished doesnít seem out of the ordinary at all from the reports I get from people who venture onto those types of water.

Carp fishing is fantastic if you are on the right venues. Balancing what you are happy with in terms of size of fish, what you are willing to pay for a quiet syndicate and finding decent people to share the bank with is a bit tricky, but there are a lot of good people in the sport

Interesting thread. I started carp fishing at 15 in Feb '97 after a few years playing about sea fishing. About ten years later through people I met I ended up working for 2 well known carp angling firms. Both experiences were rotten. People throwing cash about, drugs were rife, bullying, homophobia, prostitutes at shows etc. These were my first experiences with all of those things and made me incredibly uncomfortable.

Anyway, long story short I left the second business and just gave up. No desire to fish for carp anymore. I was done.

Until last year that is, I decided during lockdown to have another crack at a sport I fell in love with as a kid. Dusted the gear off and joined a club. Wow. How things have changed! Within 2 trips I was in an argument with a guy who cast across the entire lake and was fishing in my margin! I didn't get it. Had lake etiquette gone out the window completely in the past decade?? Well from the few choice words he called me I guess they had as I was very much in the wrong apparently. I had the last laugh, I got a bite and he packed up grumbling to himself as I played the fish.

Since then I've chosen to fish another lake. Mainly doubles, the odd 20 but I'm so much happier as it's weedy so is avoided by the majority.

The ottomatic spring is pain to do...and I've been taking Mitchell's apart since I got caught by my dad stripping an old half bail,300..

I have two carping hobbies. The first one is the same as the rest of you - carbon rods, modern gear, usual sort of set up.

My second hobby is using traditional fishing gear. Split cane rods, Mitchell reels etc etc. I now make my own rods from bamboo culms and a lot of other gear too. I posted a couple of threads about 18 months ago and they were well received on here.

I normally fish on a very nice syndicate so no problem. However, on the rare occasions Iíve fished with a couple of mates on a commercial venue the amount of grief Iíve gotten is unbelievable. Some pissed or ****ered obnoxious gob***** literally laughing in your face isnít pleasant or called for. I keep my temper in check, keep my head down. These morons also donít realise that sound carries over water and I can hear some of the bile they are spewing. I find the best way to wind them up is to put a fish on the bank, something most of them canít seem to do - even with the modernest of gear.

I have met a couple of VW Camper van enthusiasts, do'er uppers, and although I'm not into cars, their knowledge and passion is very obviously in a different league to Facebook carpers. Nice to see, and share, without egos

Made my day/s to listen & understand their love for their hobby.

I'll answer that by saying what I'm not. I'm not someone who calls other people "as thick as pig****" on an angling forum. Neither do I pursue people on the Internet to get information to insult them or their partner.

Don't know whether I can claim to be part of the solution but I don't think I'm part of the problem.

Funny you mention the VW story, I have made similar observations.

I do a lot of rock climbing when I am not fishing and I am yet to meet an undesirable. Carp fishing attracts idiots for whatever reason...I don't know why that is, easy access, little effort required to just sit around perhaps.

Such people would be swiftly ejected in climbing circles as you cant do it on your own and you certainly wouldn't do it with someone you don't like.

I can better that, there was some chav on FB selling a bag of Cell (with some missing) turns out the bag was ripped open by his dog and it had eaten some, still wanted two quid less a KG than it was in the shop's.

Checked out his profile, he had a Devil dog and a Mrs. with a face that matched the dog's, you know the sort.

Social media in general has become so bloody poisonous in the last few years, its almost become the norm' . I follow a couple of MTB pages and some of what I read on there is sickening..yes there is mickey taking over some 'for sale' posts, but some degenerate into cruel, unpleasant character assassinations with little or no moderating. They truly are faceless cokehead keyboard warriors...its a pity as in general the MTB community is pretty friendly and helpful.Once more its a minority spoiling it for the majority .
Many of my work colleagues are somewhat younger than me and many of them are now shunning SM because of the bitter vitriol promoted daily.

I dont know if this was you Wayne, but last week I saw an ad on FB where a bivvy was up for sale, think it was either £150 or 200...some **** asked 'wud u take a wunner for it' ? My 1st thought was bloody cheek .....the next was if he only wanted a 'wunner' it would be advertised as such. Yet another sad example of the typical inhabitant of FB world

For most chasing so called fame it's either that or asking the punters if they want to go large with their meals for the rest of their lives.

Let's be honest with a few exception's like Mark Pitchers and Rob Hughes (+ a few others) it's blindingly obvious that the majority are as thick as pig ****, actually it's probably a prerequisite at Nash when I think about it.

I see a lot of that. The street is now bank, each to their own of course

The one thing about carpfishing for me is. I have never had the intention to scrounge a living from it or be famous and that just seems to be the one single goal of a lot of people these days. I have always gone for one thing, pleasure and because I love it, a get away from normal life

I think the pastime has changed massively over the last 20 years and the last 10 has just accelerated beyond belief and itís about people trying to make a living from it or be famous for me, otherwise there would be no animosity

Years ago you had a bit of a result and you sent your pictures off to the angling times etc. no bitterness as I saw it, just people with a passion who shared the same interest, interested in what others were doing and a bit of respect. Sent a few in myself but stopped, I got recognised on a couple of waters and thought that is the last thing I wanted! Fast forward a few years and I used to post on another forum, did the same again, used to post a few fish, one season had a result and could not believe how many shallow people there actually are carpfishing, couldnít get near the water / swims for around 2 years, one bloke punished the spot for a whole season, absolutely unreal

So aside to the above, why you would want to be a ďknowĒ angler is beyond me but I guess thatís the era we live in, everybody wants to be an authority on the pastime. Notice how I didnít say sport, thatís because I take absolutely nothing from it and only leave footprints, how it should be for me

A overwhelmingly large majority of carp anglings new and recent disciples have found the camping lazing about style of angling a slice of heaven for its suitability to practice their real hobby of getting smashed etc as once they sample the relative comfort of the bivvy they sure ain't going back to standing on street corners, bit like a cuckoo these wasters have found a new home. Due to the way carp angling has been promoted they have created a welcome home for what's seen now and sold out the spirit of carp angling for the usual winner financial gain.

I'm very fortunate in so much i don't fish busy places at the moment,I have done, and met some good anglers, and a fair few inexperienced people to boot..

However,I feel that that the big picture, right now is about how our freedoms and basic rights of our previous life are being taken away ,by stealth and manipulation under the guise of 'covid'..

That should be of the utmost concern to anyone who asks questions,or queries the narrative..

Do you want to live as free as possible,or every move you make ,controlled by fear, and the government agenda..

This is the real important issues, not some one on weed or banging a bivvy peg into the ground loudly..

Good luck...

I'd agree with that.

Grew up sea angling with my dad and it's like a different world. Even now every October there's a great turnout for a memorial competition in his name and a mix of (very) old and new faces each time that are good humoured and helpful .

'Carpers' and Facebook. ... perfect storm for moron breeding unfortunately

I think that is a lot of it, the image portrayed by some of the media Whores stars

Not once could I ever imagine performing on the bank like some of them do without getting my teeth knocked out, totally embarrassing

I think part of the problem is that it is not real, face to face stuff, I can only imagine some of the muppets performing like they do in some of the pubs I know

Then you get the cocks, within the space of 2 minutes of talking to you, do you know so and so, yeah I know him, yeah, heís alright isnít he? You can cut to the chase quickly and the first person they mention, just say, yes, he is a proper ****, they can only slate people for so long before they **** off

Tackle company's bare a portion of blame how much is debatable. The way they have pushed a image orientated advertising and marketing campaign over the last several years has been aggressive in the way of shaping what the scene represents today. With massive sales from the influx of these new customers things are not going to change any time soon.

I am pretty certain that if I were to give up carp fishing it would be due to the idiots that it attracts these days. It's always had its share of "characters" but the number of people involved today who are actively stupid, aggressive, or abusive is off the charts. It doesn't help that in some clubs the bailiffs are part of the problem.
I'm just not seeing this with the other outdoor sports I do.

I tend to agree that the vast majority of people are as you say decent, polite and helpful.
However if you take forum contributors as a cross section over a wide range of interests then carp fishing does seem to fare badly.
Over the years I have contributed to a few other forums ( car and arborist) and read posts on fly and other fishing forums. All these forums without exception have been helpful and people polite.
I would say generally the people on this forum are also very helpful and polite but one thing that amazed me when I joined was the level of personal insults by a very small minority that was deemed acceptable. Certainly wouldnít be allowed on other forums and perhaps that prompts a low level of behaviour thought to be ok by a few that translates right through to the bank.

I run a couple of selling groups on Facebook, a jag selling page with over 5k on it and a rive selling page (top end match fishing boxes) with over 8k on there.both pages are more than just selling pages though advice on products and user advice always on hand.

I moderate these quite strictly not because of a power trip but I don't want to create any negativity on the company's that they represent.
if people have a review of a product that didn't suit them, failed them or was sub standard then its good for people to know this, however,on both these pages there are representatives of the company's.
I always ask if people have had problems have they contacted the company's before coming on a facebook page to slag them off.
jag s customer service is spot and almost always leave the customer with a satisfactory solution.

The rive page has the UK general and marketing manager on there and people have had problems sorted within days that have been rumbling on for a while through the shops that rive didn't even know about as it was the shops dragging their feet.

if people come on the pages and just say something is **** because of the price or just moaning than I just delete the comments.

Thereís something about social media that brings out the worst in people. Itís probably the relative anonymity that means people will say things they wouldnít dream of in real life.

I must admit over the years Iíve been dragged into arguments etc on Facebook especially when thereís some tw*t giving it the biggun Iíve struggled to ignore it (which is exactly what they want of course)

Iíve come up with the best solution- Iíve cancelled my Facebook. The negativity gets depressing and Iím much better off without it. Next on the list is Instagram, although I will miss the catch pics. Itís a shame the catches section on the forum isnít better used. Maybe if everyone started using that we could all cancel all our social media!

It doesnít happen in any other hobby that Iím involved in....or even any other branch of angling!

I've noticed that too, I fish for many species - mainly Pike, Barbel/Chub, Grayling, Carp and also Fly Fishing for Wild Trout. It's like being in a parallel universe when you chat to people you run into when fishing for other species, Iíve also noted that most donít view Carp Anglers in a nice way.

the problem with social media unlike when you speak to someone face to face is you can't tell the tone of the voice that someone's using or body language.
I quite often write something in a jokingly winding someone up type of way, exactly like I would in a group conversation amongst colleagues or mates or family amd I've had to delete it as someone will always take it the wrong way..people look for arguements or disagreements on facebook..
also the social difficulties people suffer in a real life environment can come across in the ways they try and articulate themselves through text.

I'm not defending anyone and there are social hand grenades in all walks of life but sometimes things come out in a way that if you were face to face would come across differently.

I totally agree with that,I sold a bivvy a few years ago to a chap who had forgot he got lippy the year before over something else. The funny thing is when I reminded him about it he seemed to suffer with amnesia and denied all knowledge of the conversation.I don't do Facebook, twitter, insta as I can not be bothered with it all

Yes it really has turned to s##t
I never wanted to become one of those Ďin the old daysí types but I guess it does come with age, but carp fishing generally attracts a certain type of person.
Itís not all, but it would seem a large percentage of todayís carp anglers have no idea what a waggler is but do seem to have an in-depth knowledge on spombs and calling one another Ďbruví

Unfortunately I think this is it to stay, you either have to put up with it and try and find a quiet lake or syndicate or take up another form of fishing.

Noticed it all going off the rails about 6-7 years ago, Iím not on any social media platform and never will be, but the best description I've heard for what the likes of Face book have become is ďMoron MagnetsĒ

This is an excerpt of the rules off a private forum Iím a moderator on.

Welcome to the Forum, please remember this is a totally private Forum and respect memberís privacy accordingly.

It will be moderated to a high degree, any ďFace bookĒ attitudes or posts will be instantly removed Ė no exceptions.

Please do not ask when people are fishing on any lake, its private business Ė if a member wants to tell people when they are on they will do it themselves, please respect this.

The same applies to catch reports - if a member wants to post their catches it's totally their prerogative, so don't expect members to or even bother asking them to.

Tbh I've fished a couple of day tickets quite regularly over the past few years, most people you meet are decent. Face book is the problem, people will say **** on there they never would in real life, and others will quickly jump on it

I had it a while back, caught a pretty special one while playing with an advanced flash technique that kills reflections. After about a hundred posts calling me a c*** for letting the fish dry out I'd had enough

Every predominantly male leisure activity involves getting pissed, stoned or on the marching powder if people are that way inclined to begin with. Nobody can promote drugs as theyíre illegal, so itís not industry specific and just reflects society.
Same with the internet bullying and trolling which happens across the web, again not specific to fishing. The internet is mankindís best and worst enemy in one and why I wonít have any personal social media account.

I canít get my head around this though. In my job I meet thousands of people a year. I visited probably five hundred homes last year. I met hardly any people who werenít nice decent people. One of my other interests is old aircooled VW stuff. I donít see any of these comments on those forums and believe me thereís some proper knowledgeable people in that hobby. Not just some geezer who knows how to tie up a fecking Ronnie rig, but guys who can rebuild 40 year old engines and machine the parts themselves. Iím a complete noddy when it comes to engines but no one has ever been rude to me when Iíve asked a dumb question.

But carp fishing seems to be so completely different.

I know, probably representative of what idiots are lurking at day ticket waters around the country!

A sad combination of poor education, skunk and social media Iím afraid. Carp fishing seems to attract the lowest common denominator in fishing Iím afraid nowadays.

I admit that I probably donít have much of an idea what carp fishing is like in the real world as Iíve not fished club waters for probably twenty years, and I only really fish day tickets very rarely in winter when no one else is there.

However I joined Facebook last week to sell some pop ups and a bivvy. My mates had warned me. OMG they werenít wrong. I had one guy post on an advert saying the baits are ****, and that heís made bait for fifty years and everything Iíd said about bait was ďbulls@@tĒ. When I told him Iíd actually been making bait for twenty years on and off he suddenly starts back peddling and apologies.

Then on my bivvy advert this cock and his mate start making comments. Again saying I donít know what Iím talking about. Again when I answered them with facts and it became clear that actually I was right and they were clearly wrong. One of them apologies.

What the hell is going on in carp fishing? Where have all these people come from who seem to think itís a pi@@ing contest. Why do these people feel the need to talk down to complete strangers in what I can only think is an attempt to show off about knowledgeable they have or to try to show that they are super experienced. When they donít know the first thing about me, or how long Iíve been carping or where I fish etc etc. I seems like they just want to make themselves feel better and when they realised that Iím not a newcomer that they canít bully then they lose interest. What would that sort of comment do to a young kid coming into the hobby? Itís pathetic. As soon as they realise that they ainít gonna get one over on me then they shut up.

Iím genuinely a bit sad. My mates have told me that if I want to use Facebook then I just have to learn to ignore it. But where have all these unpleasant people come from. Carp fishing was never like this and of all the top anglers Iíve ever met arenít like it either. Is it some sort of insecurity? Or arrogance? I donít know?
