I would certainly set the baitrunner tighter for tight line fishing but slackening the baitrunner won't mean you are fishing a slack line. To fish the line slack you need to pull line off the reel and let it sink until the line is lying on the bottom from the tip ring to the lead, the line will be hanging almost vertically from the tip ring. To get the line fully slack and sunk can take a good few minutes at range, hence the popularity of fluorocarbon mainline for fishing like this.

. . .slack / tight lining has nothing to do with the bait-runner . . .you can fish slack lines with a loose or tight baitrunner setting, conversely you can fish tight lines with a loose(ish) or tight baitrunner setting . . .enjoy

If you slacken off the bait runner is it like fishing slack line or tighten the bait runner for tight line fishing?
