In reply to Post #31 Let me put you out of suspense
I soaked the part in hydrogen peroxide and shone an ultra violet on it for 5 hours each side.
Took it out and held it up to the light and I'm not sure but there may have been a slight improvement?
By this time the Polytrol had arrived in the post so I gave it a coated both sides with that.
Again held it up to the light and I'm not sure but maybe another slight improvement, it's difficult to say so the only way to find out was to reassemble everything and try it out properly.
Well I'm pleased to say that although not a remarkable improvement some had taken place and the display is now readable enough to be able to use.
Not sure if one or both products helped, it's a one off and so I'll never know for sure.
Thanks to all for the input, I now need to find another task to keep me busy

Bloody hell it's like waiting for the next episode of Bodyguard! The suspense is killing me.
I think maybe my entertainment standards have dropped during lockdown...

In reply to Post #25 So what did you finally do?

In reply to Post #23 Looks like it’s grooved around the outline which would help in keeping it neat and tidy. Pointed nails and keep going around the outline and should end up neat. Insert very thin piece of clear plastic after.
Edit - Wouldn’t even need plastic. Put a piece of clear celotape in.

In reply to Post #24 Unfortunately it's all one piece and can't be separated. I could cut it out but they won't be until I've tried a few other things first

In reply to Post #21 That triangle looks like it will push out somehow, how is it fixed from behind?
Would’ve thought you could carefully shape some Perspex to replace it

In reply to Post #22 That would be the very last resort!

In reply to Post #21 Cut the whole section out. Take your time and it’d look neat.

In reply to Post #20 I know I said LED's earlier but there's more to it. Every grey bit inside the triangle is capable of lighting up

With the cover on

In reply to Post #19 If you want to see the lights then personally I would drill a couple of small holes, and then cover them with some small clear bungs, wont look quite as good though

In reply to Post #18 The only bit that needs to be done is the almost triangular bit to the right of the buttons which is reasonably flat, the perimeter and the rest of it are hidden behind a fascia.

In reply to Post #17 By hand, but it's a difficult shape, and will take ages, plus you wont get the same surface finish.
