In reply to Post #8 Indeed, i would go for pva mesh and pulk the hooklink through the mesh bag. (fishing large sticks)
It would be as aerodynamic as a pva bag but does the trick for you

In reply to Post #1 Thanks for all the advice lads, much appreciated. Gives me a few things to try out and hopefully one of those set ups will work for me. Must admit the idea of putting the hooklength outside the bag hadn't ocurred to me.

In reply to Post #1 You also could use pva mesh ipv solid bags.
Take al look at the Messerschmitt rig, you could use it with coated links because the rig runs on the outside:
https://www.carpology.net/article/features/the-mesh-erschmitt-/
The pva bag is connected to the bag.
Other method is using a helicopter setup with the leader going through an in-line lead with a big eye swivel.
The bag is knotted under the lead onto the swivel.
You can use a short coated link and attach the hook on the outside of the bag

In reply to Post #1 just put the swivel outside the bag and attach stiff/stiffer hooklink... you can then just leave it like that or hook it in pva pag... it looses some of its aerodynamics but will still work relatively ok.

In reply to Post #5 He said nothing about coated braid, I just assumed it was just stand alone braided hook links?
If so then a mono of his choice will be fine.

In reply to Post #4 That’s still braid though, the OP is looking for a braid alternative due to it being banned

In reply to Post #1 Would imagine a 3 inch hook link of ESP Tugsten Loaded Soft will be fine.

Low tech basic mono like Maxima Chameleon will work in a bag, no problem.

In reply to Post #1 I wouldn't fish it if braided hook length isnt allowed myself. That's what rig tubing is for.... Problem you'll have is it needs to be supple. Instead of PVA what about swapping to a large Korda method feeder?
Equivalent to a small PVA bag

Do any of you use anything other than braid hooklengths when fishing the solid pva bag?
I know the uncoated braid is the goto choice but I fish a couple of waters that have banned braid hooklegths.
Tried tying up a few 3" rigs yesterday using 0.22 (9lb) Guru N.Gauge but they were curling everywhere. I could have steamed them straight but I just got this feeling they won't work.
