Other than a camera, a charming carridge clock or maybe a keyring, how much can you market to a trainspotter? Id imagine their magazines articles are just full of the content they actually want to read with pictures they want to see, with adverts kept to dedicated pages for adverts.

The carp fishing magazine media have treated their readers like absolute idiots. Heres my version of ronnie rig, its exactly the same as everyone elses but i use this shrink tube from xyz company.

I dont mind adverts, they pay the bills, ill happily read an advert for a new product, but when they started trying to hide adverts in the articles that was the death. They got so lazy with it they barely even tried to hide it anymore.

Carpology is still going some how, i see their "reviews" 'come up here and there every now and again. What an absolute joke of a review they are. Heres a bag, its great, it has 3 zips, i cant believe how much i like it, heres a link where to buy it. Give people some credit and just call it an advert.

I thought this new wave of media was different, they arent pushing products anymore, but you soon realise they themselves are the product they are trying to push you to buy into.

I think the most honest videos out there are from Dave lane, i dont want to buy any of the tackle he uses because its all cack and he knows it. But im Interested in his honest reviews of whatever he has bought from the co-op

I pointed out in a previous thread that WHSmith sell around 15 different train enthusiast magazines, yet the carp angling bubble can only manage to keep 2 or 3 in circulation.

The problem isn't the consumer. Companies have been striving for the past two years to put feature films up for free on youtube on the basis that we will all suddenly buy Sticky Baits because Martin Bowler caught a few on an estate lake float fishing. A few have also jumped on the podcast bubble, with them all striving to have someone repeat the same stories on a platform which has already been said on three others previously. I think one chap has been on around 5 so far!

Podcasts are a free flexible platform that can be listened to anywhere, and will cause the demise of the remaining print media which companies on youtube and social media as a whole has contributed to. I only subscribe to one platform and that is because the people are interesting, the content is diverse, and the discussions are both about recent events or about previous events which are outside the narrative we are given by what is dictated by the more traditional means.

So why are podcasts like Sam's popular? Different names, Different Ideas, Different Content. As much as I love some podcasts, a lot of it has been done to death already. New platform, same trains.

So, either the train enthusiast magazines are either better than the carping fraternity at adapting to the needs of their subscribers despite the lack of diversity of the choo choos they admire, or the carping fraternity is just trying so hard evolving to modernity that the content suffers, resulting a vicious circle of style over substance.

Lets be brutally honest, how many times do you want to see a bread bomb chucked at a pasty's head and pay for the privilege when there are already tens of hours of that on youtube?

It's not as simple as having 1500 subscribers and getting 7.5k a month, it doesn't all go into the pocket. The website/apps alone cost a fortune to run then you've got VAT & Corp Tax.

Fair play - these subscriptions people must be coining it in at 5 notes a pop per month.

Would like to know how many subscriber's they have - say 1500, that equates to 7.5k per month in your sky rocket. Not to shabby for sitting in front of a camera talking crap for an hour a week.

Laney and Peck probably have significantly more that 1500 paying folks.

I believe the YouTube subscription model is following the usual (rapid) path for new media products,
Storm, Norm, Perform, Decline..etc
We are in the ‘Norming’ phase ( new entrants, lots of product overlap, little hurdle to entry) and when it evolves to Perform, we will see a shakeout. The old CarpMagazine model had a good run, 25-30 years.

Will be interesting to see who is smart and flexible enough to succeed.

Dave Lane, one of my current favorites, is a great talker, relies on a huge successful video back catalogue and is still good enough to catch big ones.

Cypography has such a wide catchment, sure most of us pick and choose what we watch.

And we have Leon, Darrell, Joe etc. with emphasis and pricing variations.

...... good luck to the angling entrepreneurs, must still be tough to make a living from carp fishing.

I dont think people pay for these shows for the rig/bait bits personally.

The magazines became a cliche - only so many ways they could write how to tie a chod rig/Ronnie/make a spod mix/bait up etc

Now generation Z are repeating the lot but just with drum and bass mixed into it and repeating videos of exactly what used to be in the magazines

Old wine in new bottles…

Ah well, alright whilst it lasted.

Couldn't watch Alan Blair no more than 10 seconds, the bloke is like he is permanently on the crack pipe.

Yet another carp subscription service. There seems to be tonnes now. I subscribed to crypography for one month but ended up canceling it as i barely watched any, or the ones i wanted to watch were actually free on youtube. I know it's onky a couple of quid, but if you subscribed to all of them its a couple of hundred quid a year.

Im sure joe is a lovely guy, and its great to support people, but i cant just give money to everyone who asks for donations. Tbh i only made it about 25 minutes through the recent carpangle, it wasnt really for me.

Good luck to him though im sure many will subscribe.

Probably uploading stuff to a free to watch platform isnt the best way to make money, although probably like some of the others will still use it to advertise their content, cant have it both ways
