In reply to Post #41 Brown fish poo isn’t as catchy as red fish pro 😂😂 very popular last year! And after Terry Hearns book came out with his love of a red fish bait coated in salmon oil, I’m hoping to sell a bit more this year (if we are allowed out again)

In reply to Post #41 or 'Brown Fish Poo'
In reply to Post #40 Just call it fish pro instead then and leave it brown.
In reply to Post #39 Exactly the issue I was having with red fish pro! It started coming out brown not red!

In reply to Post #38 Below is from DNA baits website, from their Secret 7 boilie information...
"There is now a slight colour change in the Secret 7 freezer and shelf-life baits (please see picture in product gallery) due to the synthetic dye present in the original Robin Red no longer allowed to be used in fish feed in accordance with regulations put in place by DEFRA. Consequently, the red dye now used in Robin Red is completely natural, which is great, but it means it doesn’t hold its colour in the bait as well as its synthetic predecessor".

In reply to Post #37 From Haiths' webpage, new Robin Red:
Composition:
Capsicum, Red Beet Extract, Sucrose, Vegetable oil, Maltodextrin
My guess is they removed the synthetic carotenoid from this because it is only approved for use in feed for birds and salmonids.
It may have changed over the years due to the legally added level of those carotenoids has been lowered.

In reply to Post #33 Yeah the original recipe had to be changed due to changes in the laws and exporting bait. They still make the original at haiths but it’s not for fish consumption I believe. The new version is similar make up but I’m assuming the red dye elements have changed. We still use haiths as I have never found a better replacement but we just up the levels now to compensate

In reply to Post #7 After reading on the site about Blake’s thought I’d give it a try, ordered 2 pots with postage £ 11 78 it was refunded into my PayPal about a week later no emails or explanation given, anyone had this happen to them?

In reply to Post #34 I do like to use a bit of extra hot chilli 🌶 powder
In reply to Post #33 Wasn't there a thread here not so long back which proved they had changed it from the original recipe? Either way, very overrated
In reply to Post #32 It definitely has. It used to be evil. Mix up a kilo of bait then spend a week looking like an axe murderer or someone with the worlds worse chillblains.
The original recipe might not have change, it’s just they don’t use it anymore :-)
In reply to Post #31 LOL. Robin red, the original recipe hasn’t changed though
We all know, it has, over time.
In reply to Post #28 Don’t get me started on robin red 😂😂😉
We now use twice the amount we used in the past

In reply to Post #29 Beetroot powder sends them into a frenzy

In reply to Post #27 A lot of red and yellow pigments seem to make the tank fish exited.

In reply to Post #27 Ssssssshhhhh
I bet robin reds just got a red dye in it these days as well..
In reply to Post #26 I agree, the activity is an investigative trigger in my opinion. I’m guessing baitworks use a red dye in their baits rather than robin red as such judging by the little clip I saw many moons ago. Red dyes are also normally very soluble
In reply to Post #18 I was just suggesting that its a positive thing in my opinion, the color leaching out can attract a carp to investigate perhaps and you also have a washed out effect on the pop up giving a carp the idea it may have been there for some time. Ive noticed it in many different hook baits i remember the Monster red pop ups from baitworks do the same. Rightly or wrongly I like the idea its been out there a while perhaps breaking down a little when the carp come to investigate.

In reply to Post #24 Yeah I love the wonder berry goo
I will have a dabble when I get a mo
Mate of mine who just makes hookbaits commercially sends a small selection of his hard hookers and wafters out with Korda Goo added to them it works well on both counts adds colour to some of the lighter mixes as well as the inclusion of some flavour.
In reply to Post #22 Oh I see your point 😂
No we don’t use goo although some of them would make good additives for a pop up so I will have to have a little trial 😉
In reply to Post #21 Pretty sure everyone gluging them in goo is doing that
In reply to Post #20 I don’t think anyone glugs pop ups in dye do they? The pop ups I produce today will be a blend of dyes to achieve the colours we use. That in itself is something that comes with experience. It is something that I have really got into in the last 5/6 years. Hook bait attraction and minimum feed
In reply to Post #19 A they gluged in dye or it is in base mix?
In reply to Post #18 The dye and liquids coming out is a sign of a more active pop up. The one I catch the most carp on is the most active in a tank of water.
In reply to Post #17 Is it just the dye coming out, are you saying the dye is an attractant?
In reply to Post #16 Sounds like a good plan, i love it when testing pops and the glass is full of colour, little cloud of attraction,.
Just made my first order got some sharpie classics free, look forward to using them and the snowberry
In reply to Post #15 It is water soluble dye, the orange and yellows we use are very soluble and that’s actually the reason I like them so much
In reply to Post #8 tested my freebie tutti fruitti orange pop ups in a tub of water on a size 6 chod rig......
After only 8 hours alls ok except the colour, its all washed off, water in tub has turned orange.
After 24hrs the bouyancy is still going strong, still quite firm and smells ok.
After 36hrs its still bouyant, faint fuitti smell, spongy texture, still holds its shape, I broke it open and inside is still orange and smells fruitti. Great bouyancy, shame about fast loss of colour.

In reply to Post #10 Been using Snowberry for last few years as winter bait and have done very well on it.

In reply to Post #11 What a service by Blakes, ordered yesterday and arrived at 7:30am this morning!! Excellent.
I also got some of their free samples of each type of boilie they do, does anyone know if these are shelfies or frozen. Would guess shelfies, but if someone knows for sure would be appreciated.

In reply to Post #2 Think I see on fb. All this month they’ve been giving free pot pop ups with every order. Nice touch

Very good company to deal with though.

Just got a smallish order from Blakes - mainly powders and liquids for glugs etc. I thought the package smelt a bit fruity and I found a tub of pop ups in there that I hadn't ordered as a free gift.
My first order and not a big one so wanted to big them up publically.
Now to work out what to do with minamino, liver, GLM, Betaine and more...
