I have only just come across this post! If I had seen it sooner, I have a few HDD's sat on my shelf doing nothing but gathering dust at the moment. I would have sent you one for the price of postage, Gerry! At a glance I can see 2 x 2TB, a 1TB & a 500GB which I have kept for "spares" should I have any drive issues arise (I have no space in any of my machines for any more drives!). I won't use them myself now as all the traditional 3.5" spinning drives in my systems are all 3TB & larger (12 in total along with various 2.5" SSD's & m.2 NVME storage solutions. Upto 46TB in total now on my 2 media servers & main desktop, & still running low on space constantly (meaning almost constant re-encoding of media to more efficient codec's).

That's not a SSD but it doesn't really matter as it's only for backups

Don't take this gospel I'm sure someone will be along shortly but hard drives come in the sizes 2.5" which is what a laptop would use. They also come in 3.5" which being larger will only fit in a Pc.
Older magnetic drives that we have all used come in 2.5" and 3.5". Newer solid state drives (SSD) are mostly the 2.5" size. You can ignore the SATA bit all hard drives are SATA nowadays and have been for a number of years.
So it looks like your computer is able to accept any type of SATA drive whether it's 2.5", 3.5" magnetic or SSD so you're spoilt for choice.

The bit I'm not sure about is the hot swappable bit. Your 512MB SSD that came with your computer would remain in place at all times. The hot swappable bit suggests you can put in and take out lots of different hard drives as described above but I'm guessing you don't want to do that. You'll just want to put in one extra hard drive and leave it there for good so you can do back ups to it?

Hope that keeps you going until someone else comes along

right I spent the pension on a new PC and its got a 512gb ssd

and its got a HD hot swap mobiles rack that can take a 2.5 OR a 3.5 OR a SSD Sata in it ????

here comes the total confusion whats the difference ? someone told me that if I did indeed buy a second HD I could back up or possibly clone the PC hard drive on it
I dont ever play games as Im hopeless at them lol so soooper doooper performance is not a priority but price (cheap is good) and reliability is tops

thanks for any help links advice etc
