Great pod Joss.. Had a walk round a few of the London Ressies at the start of the year and came across a few swan mussel shells on the bank. Was thinking at the time, what was eating them.. Now it makes me wonder..

Is there anyway you could maybe put the information up on here as an article Frenzy? Apologies if it's already about but I'm generally interested in the pictures and information regarding on what to look out for without the rights, wrongs, laws, fence, etc, just the layman's advice.

It was probably a bad idea picking your photography podcast as my first one ever
The shaun Harrison 'naturals' one is next, that's an aspect of a good bait I believe in but it's rarely mentioned on here.
On that vein I'd love someone to get Bob or jules from carp company to do one of these or at least some writing on bait, thirty odd years in the industry but very little media stuff from them

It was the first one the carpcast wasnít it?

I thought it was very good a first, something different and quite refreshing. I liked Mark, he was straight talking and there were some good little stories and interviews. I gave up on it when it became the Jamieís Sunday morning brunch show

Thatís not a knock at the lads, both successful anglers but if feel they drifted away from the original script, then like mentioned it was all about money, whether it cost or not if they enjoyed doing it they should have just cracked on for me

Now there seems to be loads about. I havenít listened to any since the carpcast

Thanks for the kind words! Itís very much appreciated.

Itís hard not to cover topics that have already been covered on here, but I think weíve revealed quite a few bits that I havenít seen mentioned on here before. A lot of what we talk about comes from our own trial and error or ideas that start with white papers, which are public domain or at least available to everyone through google and/or emailing the right places. Much like this forum.
I have also recently built a koi-type carp pond in my garden and trust me, those fish are getting a lot of different ideas thrown at them!!! Example- I will be testing over 30 essential oils on these fish and then plan to summarise my findings on the podcast which should be pretty unique to us. These will be tested in various water temps throughout the year and I expect each of the EOís effectiveness to differ alongside these changes.

That being said this forum definitely inspired a fair bit of my bait making when I was more active on here 8 or so years ago. I am not sure what the black forum is though

As far as what weíve caught goes, not all venues are allowed to be nor should talked about.
Iíve been very lucky and managed to catch what I would class as incredibly special fish but to be totally honest with you a lot of this is down to the time I used to spend fishing.
ďBack in the dayĒ when I was ďproper on itĒ Iíd regularly do 3 or even 4 nights a week and make a visit most days. Itís the guys who catch the special ones on minimal time that balance up other areas of life that really hold my respect.
Recently my fishing is limited to 1 night only per week, not even 24 hours. In addition to that I will try my best to visit the lake (50 minutes away) to bait up at least once a week, recently Iíve managed to bait up 3 times as Iím gunning for it before the water turns proper cold.
Since angling this way Iíve realised that so much of my style of angling was based around having eyes on the water constantly and acting accordingly.
With my new style of angling with limited time Iím finding I have to try to plan ahead of the carp and other anglers and be several steps ahead in order to be successful (which Iím often not!).
Iím most definitely catching far less than I once did.
That being said Iím still getting amongst them so perhaps I should start posting a few of my captures on social media, even though I cringe at the thought (seems a bit ego-driven and ďbraggyĒ which despite how a few people have said I come across as, I am most definitely not!!).

Anyway, apologies for the ramblings!

We welcome any feedback going forward and really want to make it something that is enjoyed by the few who are on our wavelength

I also really enjoyed the carp cast. I think their roster of guests is still the best of all the podcasts, although the Korda one will no doubt catch up.

I had a bit of love/hate listening to Jamie, no doubt he could be a pain, but at least he was pretty honest in his opinions and couldnít help but dive in when he thought something wasnít right in the news section. As a host, he also had some pretty special captures to quantify his opinions. Was hoping that he would turn up as a guest on the Korda podcast one day, would have been good value.

Iíve also enjoyed the Carp Anglers Chronicles, but as member of this and the black forum I canít help but think that a lot of the Ďbait guruí stuff is lifted from the many brilliant threads over the years rather than original thought. Would be good to get some context on where they have fished and what was caught to support the information given out.

That said, I think they have found a great niche in getting some of the forum members on to share that knowledge, looking forward to another one with Dean.

I loved the Podcast when it first came out, I even payed for the other content even though the free content was miles better.
Being the first fishing podcast released it done well, in my opinion there so many better quality podcast out there now.

I love the way Jamie was so far up Nashyís arse for the first 90 episodes but slagged him off when they had a falling out.

I see on social media that the carp cast are trying re launch themselves, aslong as they can manage to do it without banging on about how much it costs, the constant adverts and plugging for subscribers and Jamie's business adventures..when they were the only ones out there they had the lions share of listeneres but theres podcasts out there now, professionally put together with no mention of costs or hardship that have excellent content.

co-host one that needs a LOT of work but Iím very open to suggestions.
Podcasting is harder than you think when youíre being yourself and aiming for a relaxed/natural feel.
Context is key. Things that are said can come across VERY different from what they are intended.
Open to suggestions from you all

Iím about half way through the Frank Warwick korda podcast and as I suspected itís a great listen/watch. Thereís so much, rig development, bait development, water history, franks whacky sixth sense etc etc. Absolutely as far away from I went here and caught that as you can get. Very open and honest.

Depends on which way you look at it but I would struggle to suggest my comments were harsh.

It was the mental vision I got as I was gently slipping into a coma after listening to you talking about spraying liquids from water pistols 🤔

I much prefer nowadays listening to a podcast on the bank rather than reading or surfing as you can watch the water at the same time.
Some of the Korda ones have been really engaging, Ting Tong, Lee Jackson, Pete Reagan, Si Hartop but some have bombed for me at least. Simon Pitt and Toby Clarke seem to put the guests at ease and get the best out of them.
The carpcast was good to start with then JC just got to be a pain in the arse, always trying to better the guests etc and his rants were just plain boring.
The Spodcast has some good guests but all became samey, same Oxfordshire waters and people with something to promote.
Baitworks is one of the better ones, Robin Dix, Chris Ball, Reg Bampton... all ones to listen to again and again.
Nash ones Iíve mainly enjoyed, I quite like the banter between Alfie and Tom, would be nice if they could keep some sort of frequency to the uploads.
DNA again some are okay others not so, PB products likewise.
Mostly carp fishing I have again enjoyed, random muttering of a newbie but interesting all the same.
CAC, again some okay some not so, a bit rambling at times, other times it seems whilst one is talking the other is preoccupied doing his tax returns or something similar 😂 Dom on the spodcast is a bit guilty of this too!! One of the guys for some reason reminds me of the intern from the tv series W1A😉
Not listened to the new one the day to day carp angler but Iíll get around to it sometime.

Non fishing wise, Athletico Mince is hilarious, the Peter Beardsley and Steve Maclaren sketches are brilliant, Bob Mortimer at his finest. Top flight time machine, again very good a bit sweary but still funny. Peter crouch and the Ellis James/John Robbins well worth a listen too.
Finally the BBC actually do some great story based/ informative ones...Mortem, crowd science, passenger list, death in ice valley, the assassination and 13 minutes to the moon.

Thoroughly enjoy your podcasts sir. So what you are drunk... you ainít hurting anyone (other than your wallet and liver) have another 🙂

Bit samey I know. But I really enjoy the bait talk. Perhaps a little more information as to why you used/changed flavours/additives at the time of when you were rolling your own. You have eluded to this before. But sometimes we all get caught up in adding certain things for the sake of them being great ingredients. It would be good to hear a forward/out-of-box thinking angler like yourself to explain the reasons why you do what you do.

Thanks again fellas. Really appreciate the kind words although I must say that I feel embarrassed listening back to them at the bits where Iím overly drunk.
To be honest Iíve been pretty hammered on most if not all the episodes and I think it has affected the quality of things. It started off as being our ďthingĒ to have a drink on the episode, it quickly got out of hand.
The last one I recorded I couldnít finish off properly because I couldnít get my words together
Kind of funny, but also kind of tragic!

We will be recording one tomorrow and I will be stone cold sober for it. If anyone has anything they want us to cover feel free to pop me a pm

In the interest of getting the thread on track, ďinto the wildernessĒ is a great non-carp podcast if you enjoy shooting or land/animal management.
Of course JRE and the Tim Ferriss show are both great podcasts too.

As far as carp podcasts go I think most of them are good and worth a listen but my personal favourite is Tom Stokes account of his time on Burghfield which was featured on The Spodcast.
Definitely worth a listen!

I think you're onto a good thing there Sam. You've got a voice that very much suits podcasts, but most importantly you don't interrupt your guest. Excellent stuff

I think that Shaun Harrison has got some very interesting angles, although I would say the approach he talks about in respect to bait is very much dependant on the water you're applying it to. What I mean to say is if you were seeking out small critters and snails to act as a kind of attractant to get fish to investigate your spot and you were fishing in a commercial, barren waterscape? I can't see it would diminish your returns all the same. Saying all that, obviously Shaun would change his approach depending where he's fishing.

I'm assuming from this post Sam that your one of the co hosts of " The Carp Anglers Chronicles "??

Have to Say you two seem to well spoken to be Carp Anglers..

Especially loving the bait chat. ( no one talks about bait much these days) like the old skool attitude on bait ( Tell'em nothing ). But I think hosting a podcast your going to have to be a bit more open.

Keep up the good work Sam

I really enjoyed the carp cast one - I quite enjoyed the rants from JC even though I can see why it might annoy people. I like the Korda one - very professional and some great interviews, interesting guests and the Pete Regan one was funny as anything. The baitworks one I enjoyed to begin with but now I just listen to the interview bit rather than the rambling that precedes the interview - a bit too formulaic for my liking. The spodcast can be ok but they tend to interview those who fish linear waters a lot which is as far removed from my type of carp fishing experience as you can get. Samís podcast I find interesting - probably because itís just 2 regular guys chatting carp which is what we all tend to do and the fact that there is a Cornish element to it which makes it more relevant to me. The interviews with Briggs and Harrison were a real coup and I enjoyed them both. The Ďsecret squirrelí bait chat makes me smile and serves as a reminder that not everyone has to give away their edges - although I guess this will irritate those who want to be given a recipe on a plate....

Itís horses for courses really, I listen to all of them including the DNA one (which I do enjoy) and the more obscure beginner guys having a go. They all have something to offer and Iíd rather listen to these podcasts than tune into the many nonsense radio stations that seem to exist now. I would also rather listen to a podcast than watch a YouTube video - I guess Iím in the minority there but maybe that reflects my age!

I co-host one that needs a LOT of work but Iím very open to suggestions.
Podcasting is harder than you think when youíre being yourself and aiming for a relaxed/natural feel.
Context is key. Things that are said can come across VERY different from what they are intended.
Open to suggestions from you all

That being said, purely doing it for fun, would love to entertain you all as much as possible but wouldnít change our ethos for the world

Been listening to Rogan since 2012. I find the Diaz ones the most repetitive these days, with an occasional laugh out loud moment. Things will change drastically when he switches to Spotify in September!

As for angling podcasts, the Korda one tops the lot by a country mile. The Clossick one was alright prior to it turning into a subscription (worst thing they could have done). The audio with the some of the guests was unbearable at times.

Kicking myself to be honest as I contemplated doing one in 2012 when there was a solitary fishing podcast, of which only Chris Ball and Graeme Pullen discussed carp fishing. The rest was sea based, as I believe it originated from the Sussex coast. It wasn't that long ago I spoke to one "name" and told him Podcasts were the future of audio. He dismissed that, yet ended up on about 4 prior to lockdown .
