I've had the 25QDA's since they came out. Once you get the line lay sorted they're very good for distance work and extremely light. Clutch is excellent, as is the QD. Mine have seen a lot of use and still look brand new - very resistant to scratches and dings. It's a faff to get handles lined up on the bars, but that aside, a genuine premium reel. The baitrunner versions aren't in the same league (I have used those BTW). Now for the not so good - one of mine suddenly felt like it had grit inside it - but it's mag-sealed I hear you say. Well, that had failed and leaked the mag oil into the reel. It's not really something you can fix yourself, so I had to send it off to be sorted out. A mate, who'd only had his Castizms for 6 months from new, had one of his do the same thing. Makes me somewhat reticent to go all in and say they are brilliant reels - as they ARE, BUT... that issue with the mag-seal failing can't be overlooked and DIY servicing is not really an option for most people. I'm not waiting for my other two reels to feck up and cost me money. The 5500 Ultegra Ci4+ XTC is IMO the safer bet for a mini big pit. I'm thinking of getting those and saying bye bye to my Castizms...

They are very good for distance, they will balance out those rods nicely.

Sorry, old thread but new question.

For those that have owned the Castizm 25 models, is the blurb about these casting a long way accurate?

Need some reels for my 12í6 aviators and something small and light would be great but donít really want to sacrifice casting distance.

Thanks

The cast'izm 25a is a far superior reel absolutely no question, Iíve got 4 and theyíve been used hard and still look and perform really well, obviously a QD reel isnít everyoneís cup of tea, spare spools are pricey at 60 quid a pop!

I looked at these when I was changing reels - like you I couldn't find much info however what I did find seemed to suggest the cast'izm 25a was the superior reel. I got the 25a and certainly have no complaints.
