My point wasn't about minimum wage but something much more general. A culture of not wanting to meddle in certain mis-doings in case they are accused of racism.

Doesn't get much more diverse than round here so clearly that's not a problem for everyone...

Tinhead - pritti Patel making the same suggestion that you did. I still don't buy it tbh. More likely a police force not able to operate effectively after the huge cuts made by her party? Or just ineffective action all round?

And as I said, there are people of all backgrounds being exploited in these places so protecting them could hardly be see as discriminatory. Playing devils advocate - One could suggest that they might have done more if it wasn't BAME workers being exploited....

The important thing is that it's finally addressed and dealt with. Maybe then look at the other areas where business owners knowingly swerve the employment rules. Builders paying EU lads cash in hand so they can pay less and avoid NI etc. Restaurant and take away owners paying way less than minimum wage. There's too much of it about.

Gaslighting rubbish from the Home Secretary. Minimum wage enforcement is the job of HMRC not the council or police. How many prosecutions have there been for paying under the minimum wage? Why isn't she calling out the Treasury for inaction?

They knew. Even one of their local MPs (Andrew Bridgen) is on record saying the sweatshops are a national disgrace. Many investigations by the media have highlighted the problem to the government. A select committee's recommendations were all refused by government.

She is trying to deflect.

I am lucky to live in a street that still has that sense of community. local pub with a proper old school feel about it. neighbours who look out for each other. all the kids play out on the field / park out the back. my cat gets fed in at least 2 other houses!

Same as and very nice to. Lots of communitys are now so diverse that its simply not possible for one reason or another...........

A few people and shareholders making a lot of money on the back of modern slavery manufacturing conditions is more likely the reason.

Regarding Leicester sweatshops

People not calling it out for fear of being called racist. A similar reason to why the Asian grooming/abuse scandal went unnoticed?
This is where trying to be anti racist is wrong.

Is it me or does anyone else see so much fake news come out of the MAGA camp...which incidentally believe everything is fake news if it doesnít fit their agenda.

Latest one is a protestor that has been left blind in his right eye after taking a direct hit from a tear gas canister from close range. He put a selfie of him in a hospital bed and the photo has been put side by side with a photo taken of him in the street directly after the incident with the caption ďwhich eye?Ē, a claim that itís not real and the eye has changed side in a continuity error.

I donít think they are clever enough to realise a front facing camera on a phone flips the picture

Convicted by a court of his peers and sentenced to jail Trump steps in and commutes the sentence of his mate Stone. He broke the law but won't face punishment. Banana Republic stuff.

Firm with links to Gove and Cummings given Covid-19 contract without open tender

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/jul/10/firm-with-links-to-gove-and-cummings-given-covid-19-contract-without-open-tender?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Copy_to_clipboard

Joe Normal would've done it free.

PPE contracts to pest control firms, millions on a useless app to Cummings' mates.

No wonder they haven't published the Russia Report ... Looks like they've adopted Russian government practices as their model. Crooked *******s.

Anybody watching the one show?

Something I have discussed with my mates before. Two words. Community spirit, thatís whatís missing

I grew up in a pit village with working men and a pub culture but everybody on the street knew everybody and helped everybody, we were all close. I think we have completely lost it

One show tonight there was a street where the neighbours had ended up sitting outside their houses talking to each other. Straight away, bloke mentions a lad banging everything with his hands, buy him some drums for Christmas, straight away thought he had offended the Asians as they might not celebrate Christmas. Asian woman says, she would not be offended, that was nice

That could be whatís missing, the community bonds, everybody was in it together, no individualism and I think modern communities and house builds donít help this

We donít know or appreciate other communities values
