i get your point re the services.

and I agree that solutions need to be put forward...

stop shovelling millions into Hs2 is a start.

it's not fair to say that nurses shouldn't get a better pay rise because other businesses have suffered - as actually has been said by MP's. And it's not fair to draw the comparison with food poverty - that existed prior to covid because of years of terrible government policy - admittedly not on the same scale.

It's not the nurses fault. they've been going to work - way beyond the normal (which was already a tough shift for the pay) - throughout. and the aftermath will involve more of the extra work as they try t catch up and deal with the long term effects. the billions that have been thrown at private business would cover a decent pay rise for nurses for decades if you want to draw that comparison - they're not asking for 80% are they?

it is emotive and brings out strong opinions. and I'm by no means dismissing the struggles that so many have had / will face due to this. I just think that of all the options, this one stinks.

edit - and not charging nurses for parking at work would be a good start too. I'm sure your mate doesn't have to pay to put petrol in his armoured car... (sarcasm smiley needed)

Point scoring?

Starmer couldn't score a point in a tennis match with David Blunkett.

I agree they deserve more, I said as much. But without higher taxes for everyone or cuts in other services it isnít possible in the traditional sense. Plus itís got to be a bitter pill for those left destitute by the pandemic who were told it was in the name of saving the nhs that the economy was allowed to collapse.
Maybe instead of point scoring the opposition parties and unions should be putting forward proposals to those in the population who havenít lost everything to voluntarily donate 1% of their incomes towards top up payments for frontline staff?
The analogy about servicemen was never going to wash with you mate, I know that. But the fact remains they arenít paid per life taken in the same way healthcare staff arenít paid per life saved.
You hear and read a lot of strong opinions on this, well opinions donít cover nhs staff parking costs. Too much anger and not enough action when it comes to financial hardship unfortunately. If of course you can call being in a job for life and having to pay to park financial hardship while people go through supermarket bins to feed their children?

they probably haven't been thinking about their pay

too busy saving lives and being worked into the ground.

It's a disgrace. especially when you consider that given the projected inflation rise, a 1% increase is effectively a pay cut. there was a nurse interviewed on the radio the other day who said it doesn't even cover the cost of her car park charges at work...

and i don't think you should be getting a pay increase for killing someone....

A mate of mine who served in the army didnít see a penny more when he killed anyone and Iím pretty sure he wouldíve been paid the same if there wasnít any conflict to be sent to. He did it because he wanted to serve and protect his country
Controversial I know and not in any way an implication that they donít deserve a hell of a lot more, but Iíd imagine the staff on the frontline havenít spent the last year thinking about their wages

I should bloody think so too.

They'll write off a fine for two entitled airheads with their feckin caramel lattes but someone who values those who have been saving lives while risking their own....

Glad to see that the nurse who organized the tiny 1 % pay increase protest who got the £10 k fine has got it all back via a crowd fund !

Thatís an interesting stat Wayne. I saw on the other day and it said that 30% of men over 50 struggled to get a hard on? Looking at 70% of woman over 50 itís quite easy to see why
