Ta-daahhh

Gavin Williamson does the exact opposite of what he said last week, while Johnson is on holiday. Leadership, yay!

Give a few weeks and it'll come out how much of your money they paid some mate of Cummings for the algorithm that so spectacularly shafted clever kids in poor schools. But no-one will notice, because this shower of a govt will be well into the next cycle of policy f**c up - outrage - u-turn by then.

yep - the inevitable climb down with no admission of error.

Scotland, Wales and N.I. already had the sense to go with Centre Assessed Grades so it will be a U-turn dictated by the positive action of the three other nations while Williamson and co. have just fumbled about. If you were that rubbish at your job do you think you'd still be employed next week....?

just popped up as was writing...

PHE will be scrapped in name only, the amount of people involved will stay the same, wages the same and job roles the same. Itís like any other rebranding change the logo and header paper. Still under the same over arching ministerial control.

Standby for the u turn over A level results 👍🏻 They had 2 weeks to fend this off but head in sand outlook. Should have gone with the teachers expectation and let the Universities sort it out over the next few years as they will have space with no great influx of foreign students at the mo! 😷😷😷

one word. Weasel.

Corrupt to the core is this Government...scrap PHE and employ Dido Harding of failed test and trace app fame (amongst other money for nothing projects)?? Literally privatising the overseeing health body for a public service.

Anyone seen Boris?

Apparently he was off on holiday to Scotland - maybe he'll learn something while he's there

it's a disgrace

one of the primary areas of focus for schools over recent years has been 'closing the gap' between disadvantaged / FSM / LAC / SEN students. the approach taken by Williamson has been directly in opposition to this. in typical tory fashion, the gap is widened between the 'haves' and the 'have nots' .

The overall figures show a grade reduction at 40% nationally - but when you look at the figures in schools in deprived areas / with a wider demographic in terms of race / family earnings / SEN then the figures are much higher - 60% reduced grades.

Schools are told to close the gap - government continues to widen it.

The 'algorithm' used to undermine teacher grades looks at prior results. Would you like to be downgraded because someone who wasn't you, in a different year, with possibly a different teacher, didn't get the grade that you were evidently capable of? (and I use that term because Centre Assessed Grades were based on the most up to date evidence). Staff and students have worked hard to improve only to be told that it was for nothing and you';; be arbitrarily pre-judged.

Government say that mock exam grades can be used for appeal. Then Ofqual say that if the teacher predicted grade is lower then that has to stand. So teacher grades are either downgraded by the algorithm, or if they are the lower grade in comparison to mock exams, seen to be entirely accurate. Basically - whatever is the lowest grade, that's what you'll get.

absolutely unacceptable

The current approach is better than giving students a massive uplift vs previous and future years though.

I doubt it's perfect but what else could be done?

So....

Another year, another government education shambles...

Absolutely appalling the way the exam results have been dealt with. And this Thursday the GCSE and Level 2 BTEC results are due...

It is truly terrible

I posted on here a while ago, an old mate of mine is the same, head well and truly gone. He had been to Afghanistan, literally blow his mind. Not seen him for quite a few years and bumped into him in a pub one night. Unbelievable experiences, simply cannot handle it. Told him he needs proper help and support, been for counselling, didnít help him, very sad situation. There must be thousands the same. Like you say, they put their lives on the line for this country, we should do our best to look after them and there should be some proper support packages available to them instead of trying to sweep them under the carpet
