Kickstart scheme: 16-24yr olds to be employed with wages paid by government instead of on UC...minimum wage for 25hrs a week. Companies get £1,000 per employee on the scheme.

Sounds good, also sounds a bit like paying to have staff for the companies. Some big firms have signed up to it including barclays and sainsburys.

All well and good unless your 25+ I guess

No such thing as a free lunch ... but Rishi will give you half (up to a tenner, no booze, in August etc. etc.) still not bad though. Hope it gives the hospitality sector a bit of a boost.

I know there was one back in 2017 / 2018 but that was sidelined of course. I think it was to scrap ALL charges - for visitors too - and govt said it would be too costly and that NHS would be subsidising people going shopping...

Wouldn't have taken much for someone to suggest the staff only free parking option though would it....?

We need to flog the private car parking companies in public and show them for what they are.
Hopefully they will concede and drastically reduce the charges to staff and then the government pay those charges.

Apologies for the copy and pastes, but it was quicker than typing the same figures out again...

On the NHS parking thing -

From Indeed, the jobs site, on hourly wages for Nursing staff ...

'The average NHS salary ranges from approximately £13,558 per year for Nursing Assistant to £52,846 per year for Clinical Lead Nurse. Average NHS hourly pay ranges from approximately £9.65 per hour for Healthcare Assistant to £60.00 per hour for Registered Nurse.'

From The Independent online ...

'Before the pandemic, NHS staff in England were paying between £1 and £4 an hour for parking outside hospitals. These charges were scrapped in Scotland and Wales in 2008.'

Imagine if you find your self at the extremes of both sets of figures there. Paid £9.65 per hour (before tax / NI etc.) - and then forking out £4 per hour to park. That's disgraceful. Especially in the wider context of the job that nurses do.

And charges were scrapped in Scotland and Wales 12 years ago....

Loved that little snort at the end. Delightfully Partridge-esque.

I think parking for visitors should be charged but the funds should go back to the NHS. Its easier to offload things and privateer them as opposed to manage them, our governments over the last few decades have been very good at this

Parking for doctors and nurses should be free though for me, part of their package.

Charging staff to park is wrong. I hate private parking companies.
Let's hope they do a U turn

Absolute joke. My missus is NHS and although they get a discount itís still about £7 a shift. £21 a week (3 12hr shifts), £1,092 a year To go to work. All of the salary sacrifice car parks are on waiting lists. Car park ran by a third party that are more than happy to whack a ticket on a car even when they know itís NHS staff.
Hospital sold the parking rights to keep their head above water a few years back.

Our country is ****ed up. Free healthcare but if you want to use it then you have to pay someone else £2.80 an hour.

Well said. They do a sterling job, we should be proud and assist them wherever we can

Not just when it suits

Nurses are HIGHLY stressed and the workloads are ridiculous and thatís down to all those idiots cutting the costs and reducing the numbers without out some proper thought. Seen it first hand. Itís wrong

Major govt policy news is released by the Telegraph before Sunak.

NHS staff having free parking cut. I know they stopped the clapping, but didn't realize they'd re-started the shafting.
