I go back to work on wednesday after being furloughed for three months, i was lucky in that my company made up most of the deficit of what we would have been paid on the 80%, and i do mean lucky, a lot of people weren't, i'm glad to be going back but there are no certainties in employment anymore and i work in hospitality so who knows what the next few months have in store, i'm also lucky that i'm coming to the end of my working life but i feel terribly sad for all of the young people out there starting out in theirs. One thing i would like to say is all of those people crying out for a universal basic income might want to think about that now, admittedly it wouldnt be £2500 or 80% of average earnings but the country is now in debt to tens of millions of pounds and thats after only three months of this scheme

Agree. If you're not knocking the door down to come off furlough your mad. Last ones back probably won't have a job especially if you're furloughed and work in an office/retail or hospitality environment. You don't want to be finding out first hand that the perceived generosity of the benefits system is a myth.

Agree SUNNYMEAD. I am speaking to guys on the bank that think they're lucky having all this time off on 80% salary/wages. I don't think they realise that many will not go back to their jobs. And finding a decent new job in the coming months or possibly years is not going to be easy.
I have worked throughout this ordeal and I know that not all those we sent home from our place will be coming back.

Iíve been furloughed (retired) for a year or so now and sometimes wonder how I found time for work.
Although I used to enjoy my work I donít miss it and I canít say Iíve ever been bored at any time since.
I think the trick is to have plenty of hobbies and interests, especially if you are thinking of retiring.

I work in the pharmaceutical industry so ive worked all the way through and its been busier than we have ever been as were are making a covid treatment. People always need medicine so nothing really affects us. I think i would be very bored if i had been off for 3 months.

I've been on furlough since the start. Have just received notification that I am back to work on Wednesday 1st July but only for a month to cover holidays, to be reviewed at the end of the month and I may be re-furloughed.
For the first couple of weeks I lounged around the house doing absolutely nothing, because basically I'm a lazy ****.
But then I thought I must do something about our back garden. We'd let it get in an absolute mess, it was an embarrassment.
Set to work and it has now been transformed, but still plenty to do. I have large deliveries arriving of sleepers and a couple of new sheds over the coming weeks, but I'm not going to be here to get on with things.
A bit frustrated if I'm honest........I need another month!!

Enjoy the nap pal

I guess itís one of those, time to relax and make the most of it, might not get another opportunity

Letís just hope we get out of thIs and eventually we all have a job to go to!

Concerning times for me. I think we have not even seen the full impact on business sadly. Iím expecting a peak later in the year, lays offs, shutdowns, bankruptcies, sad times really

Was on furlough for 3 weeks, now back at work whilst most of the workforce is off on furlough again on 80%. Joys of working in engineering, i was planning fishing 4 days a week whilst off ffs

We maybe having another one in July though, i can only hope!

TBH though when i was on furlough it was still lock down so bored stupid if im honest. guess its much better now the restrictions are lifting

What i would say is get ready, it will have to be paid back one way or another. Think they have funded around 17 billion so far...

Enjoy the fishing

Anyone on furlough at the moment ? I've just been put on it for at least 3 weeks. I don't mind to mutch as my club lakes open next week so I'll just be out fishing. Bit crap this only getting 80 per cent of wages. But can't can't complain as getting paid.
