bream away mate

Quite like taking my boy on the Thames for bream, see lots of kids sitting bored while the dads are trying to bore a carp out

Having seen what passes for normal these days I'll take that as a compliment!

Love Faustus - brilliant play. simple scenario that explores the human condition and the Helen of Troy 9is this the face that launched a thousand ships) speech is brilliant.

Lots of Duke Special stuff out there to explore. His live shows are great. Eclectic Victoriana and a band of real musicians who play for the love of playing. I can absolutely recommend. He's a lovely bloke to boot

Not hard of him before - very talented, first one's the one for me.

In a similar vein
Some great stuff on Randy Newman's Faust - stellar cast of Elton John, James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, Don Henley...
Great tongue-in-cheek characterisation, the arrogant narcissistic god, the poor downtrodden underdog devil
Huge production too.

This shows them well, love Randy's entrance halfway through

Ah - a bit of Brecht...

Theatre genius and Threepenny Opera is a classic. And of course with Nina's voice, it's hard not to love ANY song.

An aquaintance of mine - (not quite a friend but someone I've been lucky to know and spend time with) wrote the music for the National theatre version of Mother Courage a few years back. It was a brilliant production and his music is, as always, excellent.

The fantastic Duke Special...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PZn-tBOrrM - last night i nearly died

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xInTemXsDI - wake up scarlett live. beautiful song

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0W4oIxDL1UU - low (heartbreakingly good) another live one.

TBH that wouldn’t normally be something I’d listen to but I do understand about singing with emotion. That’s why I hate such things as the X Factor where they are only looking for pitch perfect generic singers, it’s just well done Karaoke really.
My older sister had this one on her Dansette
LINK
It’s a relatively short song but even as a kid it was a 2 minute life lesson

I’m a fan of Jonathan Richman who’s not pitch perfect. Warning this one could spoil your morning
LINK

Joe Strummer sings with passion over perfection. Maybe one for later?

Just Nina on a “joanna” and little bit of drum drama - 100% live
This isn’t just singing this is a performance, she is living that character!
Surely one of the best vocal performances ever.
Worth undivided attention, headphones even better.

Mal - I think you’ll appreciate this.

Scozza - Nah!

Blanky - not sure...
